‘Levi Johnston’s Blues’

Posted on | September 29, 2010 | 22 Comments

Weigel has the lyrics and says, “Johnston keeps getting the fame clock set back to 14:59, doesn’t he?”

Levi is the world’s most infamous deadbeat dad. He never bought even a single box of Pampers for that baby, and has generally behaved like a buffoon. The only way Levi Johnston will ever get into show business is with a red nose and big floppy shoes.

In other news, it appears that Palin Derangement Syndrome has struck another Alaska public official, as Alaska Dispatch reports:

We had a surprise visitor to our office on Tuesday: Investigator John F. Bilyeu of the state Alcoholic Beverage Control Board. Seems there’s some concern circulating over Bristol Palin’s much-publicized visit to Rum Runners in Anchorage last week.
The problem? Rum Runners is a bar. Bristol’s 19. Alaska’s drinking age is 21. . . .
Believe us, if we had footage of Bristol Palin hanging out in a bar, we would have put it on our website and you’d be free to link and embed to your heart’s content. . . .
Rum Runners does have a “restaurant designation,” which means it’s not just a straight up-and-down bar. . . . [T]he law allows as how Bristol could have been on the premises “for the purpose of dining only” as long as Rum Runners is considered a “bona fide restaurant” by the ABC Board.

Which is to say that Jeanne Devon, Jesse Griffin, Shannyn Moore and the rest of that pack of Alaska anti-Palin jackals are once again on a wild goose chase for that “smoking gun” scandal they’ve been promising the liberal media for the past two years.

Four words:  Get a life, losers.

We can admit that flannel trumps bespoke in Sean Duffy’s new ad:

However, we can only deplore the sad attempts of one TrogloPundit to credit himself for the product. He had what must have felt like an original, creative idea, but merely proved an echo of such coming from a less hapless head.
Fortunately, we hear that troglodytes regenerate quickly, so that the arm he broke patting himself on the back ought not to affect the steady stream of malodorous posts emerging from the bog.
All of this abuse is heaped in pure jealousy. You see, I’ve submitted ideas for the Patrick Murray campaign. Upon seeing these ideas, the campaign replied with a list of psychologists available for counseling. I didn’t think that a chorus line of sharks in bikinis with frickin’ lasers on their heads and singing “Take a bite out of Federal spending” was too extreme for stodgy Northern Virginia, but I guess opinions vary.

Obama’s Answer On Why He’s Christian

by Smitty

Over at HotAir is a barely audible clip of President Obama offering an explanation, or testimony, if you will, of why he’s Christian. It would be the height of peevishness to pick it apart. Instead, accept it.
Ultimately, the condition of the soul of another is unknowable; recall, the disciples accepted Judas Iscariot until the Last Supper.
Thus, whether or not President Obama is a secret Zoroastrian is a giant distraction. Obi’s sister, for one, thanks this President.
My short answer to this question, for the curious, is: Jesus is the meaning of life.
Once you are grasped by this Truth, wild absurdities are more easily managed.

Sic Semper Tyrannis

“Thus always to tyrants“, goes Virginia’s motto. That spirit will likely infuse the 2010 Virginia Tea Party Patriots Convention, which is where all the cool Virginia bloggers will be on 8/9 October, in Richmond.
Basking in the Stacy McCain glow as I do, I’ve been invited. Oddly, “Gentleman” Jim Moran is not a confirmed speaker. Now, what spinal deficiency could be the cause of this?
Your attention is drawn to the breakout session list. Any suggestions regarding sessions to attend will be well received.

. . . which is the kind of double-dog-dare-ya thing you should never say to me. Ladies and gentlemen, the Tweet Heard ‘Round the World:

My response was appropriately dignified:

How long has this been my goal? Remember, this all started when Alyssa Milano re-Tweeted a post by Mickey Kaus last October. At that time, she had more than 300,000 followers — she’s now got more than 1 million — and everybody said it would never happen.

Not only was she a famous Hollywood celebrity but, as I explained at The American Spectator:

Some of my friends say that Alyssa is a dyed-in-the-wool liberal. . . . Surely, however, she would not allow mere politics to prejudice her Twitter habits.

Whenever you set out to achieve great things, you will immediately be told that it can’t be done. And if you listen to the naysayers, you’ll never achieve anything. Had I heeded the voices of discouragement– “Ah, she’s just another liberal Hollywood bimbo” — this never would have happened.

Fortune favors the bold. Those who dare, do.

Or, as my father often told me, “Son, ‘can’t’ never could.”

In a follow-up Tweet, Alyssa paid tribute to my persistence:

Yeah. You can ask Mrs. Other McCain about that.

Many thanks are due. Dan Collins of Piece of Work in Progress was an early supporter of the “Just One Tweet, Alyssa” campaign, and many others joined in. For nearly a year, it was a running joke — until it became a reality.

So thank you, Alyssa Milano.

And all you people who said it would never happen?

Hit the freaking tip jar!

EXCLUSIVE: O’Donnell Mailer Slams Democrat Chris Coons on Tax Increases

Posted on | September 28, 2010 | 27 Comments

The Delaware Senate campaign of Christine O’Donnell opened its general-election campaign assault on Democrat Chris Coons, labeling him a “big spending, big taxing, typical politician” in a Tuesday statewide  mailing focused on Coons’ record as New Castle County executive:

As National Journal‘s Hotline On Call has reported, Coons “spearheaded one of the largest tax increases in state history” in New Castle County. The O’Donnell mailer, sent to tens of thousands of Delaware voters, notes that Coons promised during his 2004 campaign not to raise property taxes: “Then he broke that promise and increased property taxes by 48% and drove New Castle County to the brink of bankruptcy. Can we believe anything he promises us now?”

Some Republicans — including state party chairman Tom Ross — were disappointed by O’Donnell’s GOP primary upset of longtime Republican Rep. Mike Castle, and have been harshly critical of O’Donnell. However, in a Sept. 14 column, Byron York of the Washington Examiner urged Republicans to focus their criticism on the record of O’Donnell’s Democratic opponent:

Coons, 47, is the top executive of New Castle County, home to a majority of Delaware’s population. From a Republican perspective, there’s one really important thing to know about his time in office: In 2004, when Coons first ran for the job, he promised not to raise taxes. Since then he has raised taxes not once, not twice, but three times.
Coons inherited a surplus. Celebrating victory on election night in 2004, he said his “top priority would be to continue balancing the budget without increasing property taxes,” according to an account in the local News Journal. Yet in 2006, he pushed through a 5 percent increase in property taxes. In 2007, he raised property taxes 17.5 percent. In 2009, he raised them another 25 percent.
Coons wanted to raise other taxes, too. He proposed a hotel tax, a tax on paramedic services, even a tax on people who call 911 from cell phones.

The O’Donnell mailer demonstrates the Republican’s strategy of running a campaign targeted directly on the economic and budget issues that polls show are at the top of voters’ priorities in this year’s midterm elections.

There are indications that O’Donnell’s campaign has an edge in grassroots enthusiasm. Tuesday night, Coons brought in Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine for an event at the University of Delaware where, according to the Associated Press, “about 100 people” showed up. Meanwhile, at a nearby pizza restaurant, so many O’Donnell supporters turned out for a volunteer meet-up that it was “overflowing” with many forced to “stand out on the sidewalk,” Eric Dondero reported by telephone from the scene.

A Deeper Meaning To Peter Daou’s Post

Posted on | September 28, 2010 | 7 Comments

by Smitty

Stacy covered this in the morning, but there are some deeper points to extract from Daou’s post. Look past the tee-hee-hee of Lefty noggin lopping (which is looking less like a head fake with each passing day) to Alinsky’s Vorpal Suppository, emphasis mine:

Virtually all the liberal bloggers who have taken a critical stance toward the administration have one thing in common: they place principle above party. Their complaints are exactly the same complaints they lodged against the Bush administration. Contrary to the straw man posed by Obama supporters, they aren’t complaining about pie in the sky wishes but about tangible acts and omissions, from Gitmo to Afghanistan to the environment to gay rights to secrecy and executive power.

When is it a bad thing to place principle over party? We’ve seen this BHO more or less become the Democrat party. They’ve made politics personal, and created a demigod out of a bobblehead.
The four years of non-stop anti-personnel weaponry unleashed against W managed to state that he was both an evil, diabolical deceiver who could take Congress and country to war for fun, yet also a buffoon incapable of tying his shoes.
BHO was supposed to have been a philo- sopher – king who cruises in on the unicorn and dashingly dispels despair.
Yet in stark contrast, he stands revealed as somebody who fights back. . .with his hands firmly entrenched in his pockets. “Don’t make me campaign on you with the Teleprompter of Death, punk.”

The need to personalize politics makes for straightforward campaign tactics, but comes around to bite hard during the governing phase.
  • Placing excessive trust in any leader undermines individual initiative and liberty.
  • Inevitable missteps are amplified.
  • Buyer’s remorse triggers the backlash we’re seeing in the sinister-sphere.

It’s as though Progressivism, in vacuuming up the authoritarian influences of the Communists, has reverted to some primitive Imperial state, where everything rests on Caesar Obama’s shoulders.
What can conservatives, the GOP, and Tea Partiers take away from this?

Only place principle above party on days ending in the letter ‘y’.

If you want to support Sarah Palin because you find her conservative principles appealing, fine. If your motives are as two-dimensional as “It’s time we had a President of Y race or Z chromosomal makeup” then you’re a fool as benighted as these useful idiot Progressives whose non-grasp of Economics has made them the prey of Communists and their plutocrat overlords.
This country has a few principles: life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. All else needs to derive therefrom or be thrown onto the compost heap. And I write that with much of the last century’s developments in mind.
So enjoy a brief “Heh” at the laughable fruit of Daou’s and the Left’s cranial rectalitis. And then avoid repeating.

Update: via Bluegrass Pundit,
BHO’s Rolling Stone interview was quoted on CNN as saying:

Fox News pushes “a point of view that I disagree with. It’s a point of view that I think is ultimately destructive for the long-term growth of a country that has a vibrant middle class and is competitive in the world,” Obama said.

Really, Mr. President? It would seem that results would be the obvious counter to disagreeable viewpoints.
