MD-5 UPDATE: Charles Lollar Endorsed by Ace of Spades and Dude Named ‘Mitt’
Posted on | September 28, 2010 | 11 Comments
“I have great confidence in my candidates, and they’re doing just fine in their districts.”
— Nancy Pelosi
For some reason, Instapundit didn’t link Monday’s big post about Charles Lollar, a Marine intelligence officer challenging Steny Hoyer in Maryland’s 5th District. But this blog is read by the really important people — and also maybe Mitt Romney, who endorsed Lollar today.
Major Lollar got shout-outs from Jane Jamison at Uncoverage and from Reaganite Republican. (Also mentioned, not in a good way, by Dave Weigel who calls Lollar “a candidate no political handicapper thinks is actually in the position to score the upset.” Hey, Dave, I think you still owe me a beer for Christine O’Donnell’s upset of Mike Castle you didn’t see coming, to say nothing of Joe Miller in Alaska.)
The really big story today, however, is that Ace of Spades has climbed aboard the Stomp Steny Express:
I think this guy can do it. Someone’s getting shocked on November 2nd.
Dick Morris noted there were Democrats in real trouble who don’t even know it yet, since few bother to poll districts like Hoyer’s.
That mention by Dick Morris — on his radio blog, he just threw out Hoyer’s name as a potential upset victim if that Big Red Wave crashes ashore on Nov. 2 — evidently got people’s attention. My source close to Lollar says they’ve noticed Hoyer’s campaign trying to gin up an appearance of support from military personnel. Yet it seems that Steny himself is still whistling past his own political graveyard:
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer recently told Politico that he does not believe his party will lose control of the House of Representatives. Maybe it is part of the job description to live in La La Land, but if he really believes this then he is more out of touch than Stephen Colbert at a Congressional hearing. . . .
More than half the voters in his district live in southern, rural, conservative Maryland counties. Combine that with dispirited Democrats staying home on Election Day and Republicans energized like never before, and Hoyer is in real trouble. On top of that, Prince George’s County, Hoyer’s only base in his district, has higher unemployment and foreclosures than the surrounding areas. Clearly Hoyer’s clout in Congress hasn’t done much to benefit his supporters. . . .
Lollar is within 15,000 votes of the biggest upset of this election if he gets enough money in a hurry.
Serious as a heart attack, folks: When you look at Lollar’s dynamic can-do personality, and then you consider how disillusioned Democratic voters have become, 95,000 or 100,000 votes could be enough win this district, and Lollar’s the kind of guy who can do it.

Bill Clinton Mocks GOP Women Candidates, Tea Party Movement
Posted on | September 28, 2010 | 22 Comments
“Of course, they’ve got the wrestling federation lady up in Connecticut and the witchcraft lady in Delaware [cheers] and I tell you, so far they’ve gathered up about everybody for this Tea Party but the Mad Hatter and Alice in Wonderland.”
— Bill Clinton, campaigning Sunday in Portland, Maine, for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Libby Mitchell
You can respond to this in one of two ways: Either you bitch and moan that Bill Clinton is being mean-spirited, unfair and sexist, or else you get off your sofa, get involved, and help these candidates stomp the crap out of Democrats on Nov. 2.
CHRISTINE O’DONNELL for U.S. SENATE
PAUL LEPAGE for MAINE GOVERNOR
UPDATE: By the way, I spoke today with Christine O’Donnell’s campaign manager Matt Moran, and also spoke to Libertarian Republican blogger Eric Dondero, who is in Delaware to help out with the O’Donnell campaign. Both of them were encouraged about the solid grassroots effort on the ground there. Meanwhile, Democrats are bringing in their big guns for tax-raising bald-headed pro-masturbation Senate candidate Chris Coons:
DNC Chairman, Tim Kaine, is at the University of Delaware today stumping for U.S. Senate candidate Chris Coons. Like Coons, Kaine came under fire for promising not to raise taxes as Governor and then broke his promise within his first few weeks in office.
Christine O’Donnell, Coons’ Senate opponent said, “Birds of a feather flock together. These two tax and spenders have broken promises to the voters who elected them. Their tax and spend policies are still killing jobs even today.”
“My opponent, serving as the New Castle County Executive, also raised taxes – three times, even though he made a campaign pledge in 2004 not to do so.”
O’Donnell continued, “Will Coons and Kaine apologize to the college students for destroying their future with crushing debt? It is the youth that will have to pay tomorrow for today’s reckless spending. Will these promise-breakers apologize to these young people for the jobs that aren’t there as they try to start their careers?”

Nap-Time Tales of Net Neutrality
Posted on | September 28, 2010 | 12 Comments
I am on record as declaring “Net Neutrality” as The Most Boring Policy Debate in History. However, it appears that Warner Todd Huston was able to score a large enough supply of pure methamphetamine to keep him awake while he sorted through all the recent Net Neutrality news, including this scary headline:
Draft of Waxman’s net-neutrality
legislation leaked amid talks
Oh, great. So now the intense soporific effect caused by having to think about Net Neutrality — it’s a struggle not to nod off before I finish typing this sentence — is combined with the horrific mental image of Henry Waxman.

Awesome! Ace of Spades Gets in Touch With His Inner Social Conservative
Posted on | September 28, 2010 | 23 Comments
Admittedly, a social conservative famous for slinging f-bombs and sodomy jokes, but a social conservative nonetheless:
This was just evil for evil’s sake. She wanted to be even more famous than she is (and she is already quite a bit more famous than her present, but very limited, talents would recommend), and she decided to grab at that on the backs of tweener girls, already immersed in a culture that tells them virgins are weird and having sex is what the cool, popular kids do, with almost no pushback against this message at all. . . .
Read the whole thing. Ace is talking about Katy Perry’s latest sexed-up hit song and even manages to throw in some cleverly relevant references to Christine the Teenage Witch (Who Doesn’t Like Wankers).

Michael J. Lotus offers the first half of an interesting overview of conservative activism, Tea Party and otherwise.
One could pick apart some details, but the main thrust is spot-on and well composed. The sequel, with prognostications, should be a worthy read indeed.
Michele Bachmann Endorses Joe Miller

by Smitty (h/t Libertarian Republican)
This blog hopes that by 2014 Minnesota has found a suitable replacement for Michele Bachman, so that she can do her Nancy Sinatra impression using Al Franken as a mat.
Wouldn’t that be the campaign ad of justice? Michele in boots working out to Nancy, standing on a life size photo of Franken? Maybe just walking toward it would be in better taste. . .
Scapegoating Progressive Bloggers for the Obama Administration’s Failures?
Posted on | September 28, 2010 | 31 Comments
Just when you think Democrats could not possibly become more absurd, they surprise you:
With each passing day, I’m beginning to realize that the crux of the problem for Obama is a handful of prominent progressive bloggers, among them Glenn Greenwald, John Aravosis, Digby, Marcy Wheeler and Jane Hamsher.
That’s from liberal New Media guru Peter Dauo, who evidently doesn’t realize how ridiculous that sentence looks to sane people.
Here we have a president who promised that his election would mark “the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless . . . the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal.”
Not exactly modest in his promises, was he?
What he delivered instead is record levels of deficit spending and unemployment that seems to be permanently stuck near 10 percent.
Yet despite the myriad failures of the Obama administration, Peter Dauo insists, “the crux of the problem . . . is a handful of prominent progressive bloggers.”
On behalf of the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy, I would like to offer this message of comfort and solidarity to Glenn Greenwald, John Aravosis, Digby, Marcy Wheeler and Jane Hamsher . . . Read more
