Silly Ex-SECDEF Thinks He Has The Right To A Coherent Tax System

by Smitty

Mr. Rumsfeld, sir:

The dry sarcasm of your recent open letter to the IRS, while exquisite, reveals naïveté about what has happened to our country the last century. This is somewhat ironic, given you spent a good chunk of the last ~50 years shaping those events.

We no longer begin with the individual as the unit of analysis, bubble up economic activity through 50 states, and have a federal government to manage interstate and international concerns. Oh no. Progress has meant that we have a permanent political class an a right monstrous federal bureaucracy (perhaps you still recall the DoD) currently eating out our substance (or, if you will, “borrowing it forward”) and burying us in regulations. In the continuous tradeoff between security and liberty, security for the bureaucrats currently has the upper hand.

Thus, there is irony in your dismay at the IRS. As Instapundit noted, Richard Fernandez wrote:

America was founded on the notion that most politicians can only be expected to be ornery, low-down, crooks. Nobody in those days was fool enough to believe they could be Light-workers, Messiahs and create a world without guns. Thus in the Founder’s view the only way to guard against rogues was to ensure that government remained as small as possible relative to its essential jobs; to change those in office frequently and often, like we change underwear.

Please help fight the good fight, sir, by calling attention to efforts such as the Convention of States, to give this federal leviathan a desperately needed trim.

Confetti Bomber: Kooky Art Student Arrested After Boston Marathon

Posted on | April 16, 2014 | 13 Comments

A mentally ill art student was arrested Tuesday at the Boston Marathon after he attempted a hoax on the first anniversary of the deadly bombing at the race. Kevin “Kayvon” Edson, 25, reportedly had a confetti-filled rice cooker in a backpack. Edson was charged with disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace and possession of a hoax device, WBZ-TV reported.

Before his arrest, Edson had posted homosexual-themed tributes to jailed bomber Dzhokar Tsarnaev on his blog and Facebook page: “Sexy til proven innocent . . . Boy-o-boy, I’d pressure cook him a meal n’ bring him homo to Mama. . . . Happy Anniversary, babe!”

The New York Daily News reports: “In a YouTube video posted by Edson in 2012, he describes himself as ‘a fashion designer, an entrepreneur, a performance artist, a mental patient, a blogger/bloggerist, a jailbird, a college dropout and a drag queen.'”

Edson “is, or was, a student at Massachusetts College of Art and Design,” Samar Kalaf reported at Deadspin, where commenters noted that Edson’s videos make reference to bipolar disorder and McLean Hospital, a psychiatric facility in Belmont, Massachusetts.

Edson’s hoax caused a serious security scare at the Boston Marathon, as was captured in dozens of Twitter messages.

Police: Florida Teacher Told Boy’s Mother ‘No Regrets’ for Sex With Student, 17

Posted on | April 15, 2014 | 28 Comments

No morals, no conscience, no shame:

A 29-year-old English teacher who allegedly had a four-month affair with her underage student and aborted his child, has been charged.
Jennifer Christine Fichter was arrested yesterday after allegedly confessing to the 17-year-old boy’s mother that she’d had sex with the teen up to 30 times, loved him and had no regrets.
The Central Florida Aerospace Academy teacher was arrested . . . last night and charged with six counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor. . . .
According to The Tampa Tribune, police said the abuse began in November when the pair had sex in the early morning hours in Fichter’s Toyota pickup truck.
The teen told detectives he and Fichter met for sex three times in the parking lot of a Lakeland apartment complex and three times near New Tampa Highway.
He also said they had sex four times outside the city in Polk and Hillsborough [counties].  . . .
Last night, the mother agreed to speak to Fichter and record the conversation for investigators.
During the call, Fichter allegedly admitted she became pregnant with the teen’s child and had an abortion. Fichter also said she was in love with the student and wanted to continue seeing him.
‘The victim’s mother discovered this relationship after reviewing text messages from her son and she asked that Fichter respond to her residence to talk,’ a Lakeland police statement said, according to Orlando Sentinel.
‘According to the victim’s mother, Fichter admitted to the sexual encounters and professed her love for him.’

It’s Florida. The whole state’s been overrun by degenerates.

Apartheid in New York City

Posted on | April 15, 2014 | 15 Comments

Huffington Post has some maps, produced by a graduate student, showing a profound pattern of residential segregation in New York City. It’s a follow-up to a recent report which “found that New York City has the most segregated schools in the country.”

Maybe folks down in Mississippi and Alabama should rent some buses and ride up to New York to protest this situation.

RNC Sues IRS for Stonewalling

Posted on | April 15, 2014 | 11 Comments

The Republican National Committee today filed a federal lawsuit, accusing the Internal Revenue Service of illegally failing to comply with Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests:

The RNC believes the undue delay in producing the requested documents is unacceptable and inexcusable, given that many of these documents have been already produced to other requesting entities. Release of the requested documents is in the public interest, as Americans deserve to know how the IRS interprets and enforces the tax laws—and why it would deliberately target people because of their values and beliefs.
“We’re filing this suit because the Obama administration has a responsibility to be transparent and accountable to the American people. The IRS has a legal obligation to answer our inquiry for these records,” said RNC Chairman Reince Priebus. “On Tax Day especially Americans deserve to know whether they can trust the agency to which they’re sending their taxes.
“If the IRS and the Obama administration don’t have anything to hide, why not answer the request? Their delays and distractions make Americans think they’re trying to cover up their actions, just like ex-IRS employee Lois Lerner. We’re going to keep fighting to hold the IRS and Obama administration accountable because Americans deserve a government that treats them fairly and not one that harasses them because of their beliefs nor an administration that goes after its perceived political enemies.”

Oh, Noes! @AmandaMarcotte Needs New Theory to Explain Secular Misogynists

Posted on | April 15, 2014 | 91 Comments

Apparently, you don’t need a Bible to know feminists are wacko, and this discovery challenges Amanda Marcotte’s worldview:

“Men’s rights”, a code word for opposition to women’s rights (usually women’s right to be free of violence, to be autonomous in their sexual and relationship decision-making, and to be treated as equals in education and labor ), is a popular topic on Reddit, and recently the forums dedicated to it decided to survey their members to get a demographic picture of them. Stephanie Zvan has a summary. Most of it is unsurprising. . . .
However, there’s a couple of things that stand out. This big one is that . . . the MRAs of Reddit were not drawn to the Christian right. . . . On the contrary, 94% of them defined themselves as having no religion. 94%, folks. . . .
The other sort-of surprise is that they are really young.

Ninety percent of the Reddit MRA survey respondents were 20 or younger, and only 4% were over 25. So here you have thousands of young, secular guys who completely reject feminism.

That crashing sound you just heard? That was the sound of Amanda Marcotte’s worldview collapsing into jagged shards.

Of course, Madcap Mandy manages to articulate a rationalizationfemsplaining, you might say — but you know this survey will be haunting her dreams for weeks to come. After years of blaming opposition to feminism on the Christian Right, here is unmistakable evidence that relentlessly attacking religion will not automatically lead to greater popularity for feminists. In fact, what drew Stephanie Zvan’s interest to the Reddit MRA survey was her perception, as an atheist feminist, that the online harassment she and other atheist feminists have experienced is coming from men inside the atheist movement. This doesn’t particularly surprise me; see my American Spectator column last August, “No Love for the Godless,” about such complaints.

The explanation of the Reddit survey may be a lot simpler than either Zvan or Marcotte suspect. As a phenomenon, Reddit skews toward younger users, and seems to attract a lot of computer geeks.

Young geeks are not generally religious, and so the secular youth tilt of Reddit MRAs is not really unexpected. The survey does, however, suggest that young males are as hostile to feminism as older men, which may surprise some feminists, but doesn’t surprise me in the least. Given that women are now a majority of college undergraduates, claims of female victimhood — oppressed by the heteronormative patriarchy! — are apt to strike young men as absurd.

And if feminists think the Christian view of women is oppressive, they obviously aren’t paying attention in science class.

“Me Tarzan, you Jane.”

Anti-Israel Extremist @MaxBlumenthal Cited by Overland Park Jew-Killer

Posted on | April 15, 2014 | 73 Comments

Two days after “raging anti-Semite” Frazier Glenn Miller murdered three people at the Jewish Community Center in Overland Park, Kansas, liberal media have suddenly lost interest in Miller’s crime. Donald Douglas explains we need not wonder why:

Legal Insurrection points us to the Kansas murder suspect’s posting at [Vanguard News Network], where he extolls far-left anti-Semitic Israel-hater Max Blumenthal, “Jew journalist Max Blumenthal exposes and explains this attempt by a foreign government Israel, to buy the presidential election for the neo-con, war-mongering republican establishment.”

Oops. In 2006, Daily Kos bloggers had a panic because Miller ran for Congress as a Democrat. More from Professor Douglas:

And don’t forget, Max Blumenthal is a Democrat (his first book was a literally unhinged attack on the Republican Party). Indeed, his father Sidney Blumenthal, one of Bill and Hillary Clinton’s closest aides and confidantes, launched a major campaign to defend son Max against “liberal” (liberal!) attacks on his rabidly anti-Semitic book, Goliath: Life and Loathing in Greater Israel.

Now that Miller’s clear connection to the Left has been documented, the media narrative — which originally focused on the killer’s “right-wing” ideology as a motive — will shift to a more generalized “extremist” description, so as to obscure Miller’s anti-GOP, anti-Israel, anti-“neocon” orientation. Miller will cease to be a subject of national interest, much like Jared Loughner’s Tucson massacre faded from the headlines once it was learned that Loughner was obsessed with the 9-11 “Truther” conspiracy theory video Zeitgeist. The motives of murderers are of interest to the national media only if the story can be framed as a narrative to advance the liberal agenda.

The Homeless Menace: Police Say Four Women Murdered by Sex Offenders

Posted on | April 15, 2014 | 13 Comments

Notice the use of the word “transient” in this story:

Murder and rape charges were filed Monday against two registered sex offenders accused of killing four women who vanished from the streets of Orange County.
Franc Cano, 27, and Steven Dean Gordon, 45, were formally charged Monday with murder in the commission of rape and lying in wait, accusations that would make them subject to the death penalty.
Both have prior convictions, and have done time in prison for sex crimes against a child under the age of 14.
The two transients were arrested Friday in an industrial area of Anaheim, not far from the trash-sorting facility where the body of 21-year-old Jarrae Nykkole Estepp was found last month on a conveyor belt.
Police have not said whether they have found the bodies of the other women, who all went missing last fall.

(Hat-tip: Donald Douglas on Twitter.) This is typical of how the media manipulate discussion of “the homeless,” who can only be presented as sympathetic sufferers. Therefore, a homeless person arrested for a serious crime will be described as “transient,” or “with no fixed address.” This was apparent more than 10 years ago:

Brian David Mitchell was in many ways typical of the homeless, with a history of substance abuse and symptoms of mental illness.
It was not until his arrest [in March 2003] in the kidnapping of Utah teenager Elizabeth Smart, however, that the self-anointed “prophet” brought attention to another aspect of America’s homeless problem: As many as half of the homeless have criminal records, and some have committed serious violent crimes, including rape and murder.
“There’s no question that a certain percentage of homeless people on the street are dangerous or violent,” said Heather Mac Donald, a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute who has written extensively on the issue. “These are not gentle lambs.”
Miss Mac Donald said liberal activists achieved a “public relations coup” by popularizing the term “homeless” and creating an image of the people once commonly called “bums” as harmless and innocent victims of society. . . .

You can read the whole thing.
