Islam’s Terrorist African Caliphate
Posted on | January 21, 2014 | 12 Comments
Will America stand idle while this happens?
Islamist militants stormed a village in remote northeast Nigeria on Monday, torching houses and spraying them with bullets in an attack that killed 18 people, witnesses said.
The latest Boko Haram assault, on Sunday night, came hours before Nigeria’s four top military chiefs handed over to fresh commanders in a ceremony on Monday.
President Goodluck Jonathan announced the reshuffle of his entire military leadership last week in a bid to reinvigorate the fight against the insurgents.
“Most of those who survived the attack have fled the village as they do not know if they will be attacked again,” said Bulama Ibrahim, the chief of Alau Ngawo village, which was attacked sometime after 10 p.m. on Sunday. . . .
The village lies in remote northeastern Borno state, the epicenter of the insurgency and relic of Nigeria’s oldest medieval Islamic caliphate, which once prospered from trans-Saharan trade routes passing though the largely Muslim north.
Boko Haram is fighting to re-establish an Islamic kingdom in northern Nigeria, breaking away from the largely Christian south. Its fighters have killed thousands of people since they launched an uprising in mid-2009.
Just another 18 people killed by terrorists whose ambition is to forcefully take over Africa for a worldwide Islamic caliphate.
Nothing to see here. Move along.

David Zirin, Marxist Sports Blogger
Posted on | January 20, 2014 | 23 Comments
Professor Donald Douglas has been trying to get me to pay attention to this, and I’ve struggled mightily to resist. It makes my head hurt to think of it, but The Nation — a publication that spent 74 years cheerleading for the Bolsheviks — now has a sports blogger named David Zirin, whose output is about as zany as you’d expect:
Get ready for two weeks of stories that pit the polished Peyton Manning against his supposed antithesis, Richard Sherman. Get ready for two weeks of interesting coverage about how the best quarterback in the game and probable 2013 MVP takes on the best cornerback in the game and the probable Defensive Player of the Year at the Super Bowl. Also get ready for two weeks of utterly uninteresting coverage that paints Peyton as a Southern gentleman in shining armor who will hopefully slay Richard Sherman, Compton’s “loudmouth” dread-locked dragon. There will be more articles, tweets and commentaries from the media bemoaning Richard Sherman’s lack of “class”. There will be even more tweets from so-called fans that sound like press releases from a White Citizen’s Council. There will be a running loop of Sherman’s already “insta-classic”WWE-infused “promo” rant after Sunday’s victory over their rival the 49ers.
There is a word for such writing. That word is . . . bad.
UPDATE: Zirin is a comrade of the International Socialist Organization, and a contributor to its Socialist Worker site. The ISO is one of those Marxist splinter groups that you used to see at anti-Iraq war protests, handing out their grubby little tabloid newspapers and trying to sign up members. They were pathetic during the Bush era and are even more pathetic in the Obama era, where the the extreme Left is so completely co-opted by the Democrat Party (and vice-versa) that revolutionary Marxism is irrelevant.
UPDATE II: To get a sense of the fringe nature of the ISO, you need to read this (long) manifesto by former ISO member Donna Chidi, who makes the point that leadership of the ISO, an organization whose members claim to see racism everywhere, is overwhelmingly controlled by whites. In 2010, there was a de facto purge of members from the Washington, D.C., branch of ISO, resulting in a group that is 90% white in a 54% black city:
[T]he leaders of the branch called an “Emergency Meeting” . . . in which we would discuss some important issues in our branch and which Ahmed Shawki of the national steering committee would attend and convene.
At this Emergency meeting, Shawki described reasons why the national steering committee had voted to expel Zach Mason and indefinitely suspend David Thurston of the DC branch. . . [Mason and Thurston] were not welcome to this “members only” meeting where the issue of their expulsions would be discussed by everyone else. . . . I commented on how sad it was to see socialists stand up and slander and crucify people they had worked with for 14 years and 7 years respectively without even allowing them to attend and defend themselves.
Among several other hostile comments made in my direction because of this, Shawki closed the discussion by inviting me to leave the ISO, although he has never spoken to me before, “If you think these guys are being crucified, then maybe this organization is not the right organization for you.”
In a 2010 e-mail to the DC-ISO’s (white) leader, Michelle Bollinger, Chidi mentioned David Zirin among her antagonists:
I believe it was made undeniably clear in the last meeting that I attended that I am not welcome in the DC ISO branch — especially in the comments made by comrades Dave Zirin, Mike Stark, and Ahmed Shawki.
Fighting racism by expelling black people? As a strategy, it makes about as much sense as anything else these kooks advocate.

Report: Wendy Davis's real ‘Texas Story’ http://t.co/b1q0gzu3v9 via @dailycaller
— Leslee Andersen (@bookgirl8) January 20, 2014
“Over time, the Davises’ marriage was strained. In November 2003, Wendy Davis moved out. Jeff Davis said that was right around the time the final payment on their Harvard Law School loan was due. ‘It was ironic,’ he said. ‘I made the last payment, and it was the next day she left.’ . . . In his initial divorce filing, Jeff Davis said the marriage had failed, citing adultery on her part . . .”
— Dallas Morning News
Smitty already took a whack at the Wendy Davis piñata today, and that’s probably enough Wendy Davis bashing for the week.
She’s so far down in the polls as to be hopelessly doomed. She will lose to Greg Abbott in November without any further help from us.
However, the point of mocking progressive celebrity women is not because such mockery will contribute to their electoral defeat. No, the purpose of deriding Democrat women is to inspire feminists to frothing rage over the alleged sexism of conservatives.
Of course, Republican women are routinely disparaged in the most foul misogynist ways by left-wingers, and feminists never say a word about that, but let Rush Limbaugh make a wisecrack about Sandra Fluke and suddenly it’s a right-wing #WarOnWomen.
Conservatives are going to be slammed as misogynists no matter what we say or do, so we might as well have some fun and try to do something that will provoke a wildly unhinged Amanda Marcotte rant.
Most of the resentment over Wendy Davis’s fudging of her biography — “My language should be tighter,” she admitted to the Dallas Morning News — is focused on her depiction of herself as a struggling “single mom,” despite the way she hooked up with an older sugar daddy when she was 21, married him when she was 24, moved into a posh neighborhood, and got him to pay her way through Harvard Law. Then Wendy left him with custody not only of the daughter they’d had together, but also with her daughter from her first marriage.
Not to be judgmental or anything, but that’s scarcely the tale of hardship and woe that wins much sympathy from actual single moms, many of whom are conservative women, and disinclined to RSVP to the Wendy Davis Feminist Victimhood Pity Party.
I would love to introduce @WendyDavisTexas to my mother so she can hear a real story of a former hard-off single mom who overcame odds.

Feminist hero/abortion Barbie, Wendy Davis, lied about being a single mom and used a man to pay for her law school. Sounds about right.

What? "Blurred Lines"? Is @WendyDavisTexas twerking Robin Thicke? http://t.co/KKE5FrImVP @AndrewStilesNRO

So Wendy Davis, a lawyer who went to Harvard, lied in her testimony in a federal lawsuit. What a hero! #NotSoMuch
— Jedediah Bila (@JedediahBila) January 20, 2014
You get the general idea: We want to force feminists to defend the real Wendy Davis — a liar, a cheater, a selfish gold-digger — and to make them explain how her actual biography (and her dishonesty about her biography) is consistent with progressive ideals. And if they refuse to fight Wendy’s fights for her, we’ll then have a wonderful headline: “Feminists Abandon Democrat Wendy Davis.”
Heads we win, tails they lose.
Hmmm. @WendyDavisTexas: "My language should be tighter" http://t.co/1qFp97J6Yw Yeah. She's been loose with that, too.
— Robert Stacy McCain (@rsmccain) January 20, 2014
To be clear: My last tweet was not meant to imply @WendyDavisTexas is a cheap dishonest two-timing floozy. Obviously, she's not cheap.

Take Paul Krugman’s Money
Posted on | January 20, 2014 | 44 Comments
Paul Krugman tediously rehashes his “economic inequality” gripes:
The reality of rising American inequality is stark. Since the late 1970s real wages for the bottom half of the work force have stagnated or fallen, while the incomes of the top 1 percent have nearly quadrupled (and the incomes of the top 0.1 percent have risen even more). While we can and should have a serious debate about what to do about this situation, the simple fact — American capitalism as currently constituted is undermining the foundations of middle-class society — shouldn’t be up for argument.
Why the generalization, Dr. Krugman?
Why do you pin the blame so vaguely on “American capitalism,” when clearly the cause of economic inequality is you?
As the Smartest Economist in the Whole World™ it was your job to fix this problem. Obviously you’ve been goofing off — phoning it in, going through the motions — and here you are again, recycling the same arguments you’ve been making for decades.
So we’re coming to take it back, Dr. Krugman. The middle class will be showing up to collect The People’s Refund. That three-bedroom $1.7-million Riverside Drive apartment you bought in 2009? It’s got enough square footage to house a dozen struggling grad students from Columbia and NYU. They’ll be moving in next week.
What’s your salary at Princeton University, professor? Last time I checked, the average Princeton professor made $190,000 a year and you’re clearly above average, so let’s say $250,000. We’re going to let you keep $60,000 of that — “incomes of the top 1 percent have nearly quadrupled” — and redistribute the other $190,000 to the janitorial staff at Princeton, because . . . fairness.
Now, how to redistribute your New York Times income? If they’re paying you $300,000 a year (which is Tom Friedman’s reported salary, and certainly they wouldn’t pay a Nobel Prize winner less) then I figure we’ll cut you back to $75,000, re-distributing $225,000 in $25,000 increments to nine struggling young writers to be chosen annually for what will be known as The Krugman Fellowships.
See, Dr. Krugman, this is why your “economic inequality” arguments haven’t been fixing the problem. By dwelling on general categories — “the top 1 percent” and the “middle class” — you have failed to make it personal. If you break it down to individual cases, people can relate a lot more directly to the issue, deciding on how they’ll divvy up the wealth of specific rich people, like you.
Even after we re-distribute three-quarters of your income, Professor, you’ll still be making more than $100,000 a year.
That money will come in handy when you’re buying pizza for all those grad students sleeping on the floor of your apartment.
Social justice, eh?
Wendy Davis Used The Roman Alphabet. Isn’t That “Honesty” For A Democrat?

I’m starting to get this crazy feeling that Wendy Davis might not be a good person. I must be sexist.
— Dr. Kanko Kreeper (@kankokage) January 20, 2014
I can’t see any level of prevarication in Wendy Davis’s history that has not been normalized by #OccupyResoluteDesk:
[Wendy Davis] has admitted to the Dallas Morning News that she lied about key events in her life, including her first divorce. Davis may even have lied under oath, testifying in a federal lawsuit over redistricting that “I got divorced by the time I was 19 years old,” when in fact she was divorced at age 21.
Other missing details have included: her second husband paid her way through law school and she divorced him the day after the last payment was made; her ex-husband accused her in initial court filings of adultery, and was awarded custody of their two daughters; and she first ran for city council in Fort Worth as a Republican.
“My language should be tighter,” she said, admitting her campaign biography has been less than truthful.
She really should have tarted up that bio some more. A mother who was an expat from Bulungi, where that branch of the family had run a coffee plantation, to give her a more exotic feel. She could write some fanciful book with a title like “Dreams from Gaia by Way of My Mother”, or something.
We’re looking at a young version of Hillary Clinton here. If you can’t understand one woman’s epic struggle to free herself from the cruel rows of shark-like teeth arrayed against her by the ravenous, insatiable Male Patriarchy, you’re clearly sexist.
If a bit of creative writing becomes necessary to overcome centuries of Masculine Oppression, then we must look past our own peevish adherence to facts and help a sista out.
Husband paid off her student loan and Wendy Davis left the next day? Sounds like money well spent.

Ode To Global Warming Wankery

When you say Global Warming,
The critics are a-swarming,
For scientists, they too need a vig.
And if you are a-doubting,
There will follow some loud shouting,
Delivered by some cat called ManBearPig.
But if we’re not a-fooling,
And we truly need some schooling,
They could use a little polish on the thesis.
If those busy ‘crisis’ hatching
Could but show some action matching
Their results might not have the waft of feces.
