In Addition To Ron Miller, You Need To Read Ayaan Hirsi Ali

Pat in Shreveport has a post concerning BHO’s Ramadan message. Not to distract too greatly from this blog or Ron Miller, you need to check out Nomad.
I hope to meet Ayaan and get an autograph in my copy of Nomad, from which I’ll pull some excellent quotations Real Soon Now. To characterize Ayaan’s experiences as harrowing isn’t hyperbole. We can fall short of generalizing her experiences to cover the entire Islamic world, but there is still a need to confront the situation she outlines in a firm, positive way.
I’m not quite sure that the good POTUS sees or understands this.
Going to California

Leaving today on a non-stop flight and I’ll be there by supper Pacific time. If you don’t remember my friend Ladd Ehlinger Jr., you’ll remember the World Greatest Campaign Ad he did for Dale Peterson. Ladd’s doing some work in California now — kind of top secret — and wants me to come hang out with him for a few days. Contributions to the Shoe Leather Fund will be appreciated. Readers in the L.A. area should get in touch, as we’ll be having a blogger get-together Saturday in Santa Monica.
The Ron Miller Book Party For ‘Sellout’

This is the first of several posts in support of Ron Miller’s book, Sellout. These are the prepared remarks, which reveal the kind of man you want for a neighbor: positive, patriotic, and Godly.
The initial clip, featuring thank yous and credits is here, but let me start you a minute into Ron’s remarks.
The genesis of ‘Sellout’
or, ‘A Funny Thing Happend On The Way To A Protest Last Year’
Ron Miller and the College Republicans
After growing up in a pro-Democratic Party family, he finds himself in a leadership position with those Republicans.
Ron Miller’s personal ‘Damascus Road’
The movie mentioned is Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner.
Ron Miller applauds Black Conservatives
I’m fairly certain Ron is referring to this group, at the National Press Club recently, though I could be wrong.
Ron Miller’s book, Sellout should, indeed, sell out. I was impressed with Ron, his straight-ahead presentation, and his deep faith. I picked up three copies. Thanks most of all to God, for Ron, for the unction to get the little Panasonic HDC-TM55 camera, and for the chain of events through someone who knows Stacy McCain which led me to attend the book event.
The Q&A session got even more interesting. Ron seems the sort of fellow who is better still when receiving questions, so I hope he gets booked on all sorts of talk shows. Can Rachel Maddow thrive in such a pleasant environment of unrelenting decency? I don’t know, but your indulgence is sought while I go to work and do that which supports the pleasure of blogging.
Deep in the Heart of Texas

My old friend Ken Hanner reports for Human Events:
AUSTIN, Tex.—Hundreds of people braved temperatures exceeding 100 degrees on Monday to send a message to President Obama: “Keep your hands off Texas.”
Hours after Obama visited the city for a Democratic fundraiser and a speech to University of Texas students, speaker after speaker at the Hands Off Texas rally contrasted Texas’ somewhat vibrant economy with a much bleaker national picture.
“The President wants to enact a liberal agenda in Texas by electing Democrats,” said Lathan Watts, Lewisville city councilman. Calling Texas an “inconvenient truth” for Obama, Lewis said state policies of low taxation, spending and regulation have helped Texas avoid the worst of the economic stress affecting most of the country. . . .
‘Happy Ramadan! Please Don’t Hijack Any Planes and Crash Them Into Buildings!’

OK, that wasn’t actually part of President Obama’s official White House message about the start of Ramadan. But he does say, “I look forward to hosting an Iftar dinner celebrating Ramadan here at the White House later this week.”
Gee, it’s good to know that the president of the United States is not secretly a Muslim or anything like that.
Boy Quayle, Republican Party Animal?

TheDirty.com says the Arizona congressional candidate wrote for the site under the porn-star name “Brock Landers” and adds:
We met in Tahoe at a CBS celebrity golf tournament where we partied until 6 AM. How could you forget the crazy hooker?
Here’s video of a local TV news report on the story:
Quayle at first denied to Politico that he wrote for the site, but has now ‘fessed up (although nothing about a “crazy hooker,” yet) and Talking Points Memo has more.
Not that there’s anything wrong with getting rowdy, but next time Boy Quayle wants to fake fatherhood or smear other Republicans, he ought to consider that glass house he’s living in.
UPDATE: It’s funny, because it’s true.
UPDATE II: Yeah, you knew Gawker would love this:
Ben Quayle‘s been the subject of a bizarre mini-scandal for the past couple of days, after gossip/sex site TheDirty.com revealed that he’d been a “contributor” in the site’s early days as DirtyScottsdale.com, about trashy Scottsdale nightlife. Site founder Nik Richie claimed that Quayle had written under the pseudonym “Brock Landers,” which he used to “document his quest to find the ‘hottest chick in Scottsdale.'” (Landers is the name of one of the characters from the movie Boogie Nights.)
I think he should hire Eric Stratton, GOP spokesman. You got to admit: Ben’s doing a great job of making everybody forget about Rand Paul and Aqua Buddha.

When Obama’s poll numbers go down, it shows that you idiots don’t appreciate His Wonderfulness, says Bill Press:
In DC News, Truth Is a Firing Offense

Robert Bluey brings us the story of how an ABC affiliate in DC has suspended reporter Doug McKelway for telling the truth:
McKelway’s live report [from a protest event in DC] began with a factually correct statement about BP’s donations to President Obama. McKelway accurately noted that Obama received $77,051 from the BP employees . . .
When McKelway asked one of the event’s participants to comment on it, Ted Glick of the Chesapeake Climate Action Network acknowledged it was a problem for Obama. The rally was organized by left-wing groups Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace and Public Citizen.
The Washington Post reports that McElway’s colleagues consider it “partisan” to tell the truth about Obama.
Meanwhile, a former CNBC reporter tells how General Electric’s CEO put pressure on NBC reporters to go easy on Obama.
