2009 ‘Beta Male of the Year’ Award
I’m sure the name of the winner at Roissy in DC is merely a coincidence:
Conor, the facsimile of a man who allowed a woman to walk all over him, bought a place for her and him, paid all her bills, and upon discovering her cheating responded in the only way an unrepentant beta could: by asking her what he could do to make her love him. Really, that sort of response is just pure essence of beta.
There is a lot of bitterness among beta males out there and, frankly, I blame myself. Not only did I marry the hottest woman on the planet, but I’m just a few months away from marrying off my 20-year-old redheaded daughter to a total alpha — an Argentine soccer star who’s going to law school.
And, oh, yeah: Remember when Scott Brown announced that his daughters are “available”? Guess who was hanging out Tuesday night with his “American Idol” daughter, Ayla?
What can I say, betas? Some guys got it. Some guys don’t.
Self-Righteousness, Guilt and Liberalism
One of the books I most often recommend is Thomas Sowell’s The Vision of the Anointed: Self-Congratulation as a Basis for Social Policy, which I consider the best analysis of the psychology of liberalism. What Sowell explains is that liberals make policy on the basis of how it makes them feel, regardless of whether the policies achieve their objectives (and never mind the unintended consequences).
Here’s a classic example: Disney has a program called Give a Day, Get a Day in which kids can earn a free trip to DisneyLand by doing charitable volunteer work in their community.
Who could be against that? Liberals, that’s who.
What I found interesting about the experience though, was the conversation I had with a woman who got out of a car loaded down with bumper stickers. You know the kinds I mean — they say things like “Coexist” and “War is unkind to children and other living things” and “Like your rights? Thank a liberal.” She carried her self-righteousness with her like a cloak and it trailed behind her when she walked. Her first words to me while we were waiting on the line for our assignments were “Oh, you must be here to get the free day in Disneyland.”
Not that it was any of her business, but I decided to be nice and admit that yes, that’s why we were there. Her response: “Typical. All these people couldn’t be bothered to come out to help others without some giant corporation figuring out a way to make money off of it.” . . .
I realized that that this is the kind of galactically stupid misunderstanding of human nature that leads hard-core leftists to misunderstand the nature of capitalism and embrace idiotic ideas like socialism. . . .
Ellie Light Is a Nasty Slut
Ellie Light has never hit my tip jar and doesn’t have a blog. Nor does she have a cute butt. She isn’t divorcing Brad Pitt and she’s not one of Tiger Woods‘ mistresses. She is therefore not the sort of woman who would normally be featured on this blog. However, she’s been making lots of news lately:
Ellie Light sure gets around.
In recent weeks, Light has published virtually identical “Letters to the Editor” in support of President Barack Obama in more than a dozen newspapers.Every letter claimed a different residence for Light that happened to be in the newspaper’s circulation area.
“It’s time for Americans to realize that governing is hard work, and that a president can’t just wave a magic wand and fix everything,” said a letter from alleged Philadelphian Ellie Light, that was published in the Jan. 19 edition of The Philadelphia Daily News. . . .
Variations of Light’s letter ran in Ohio’s Mansfield News Journal on Jan. 13, with Light claiming an address in Mansfield; in New Mexico’s Ruidoso News on Jan. 12, claiming an address in Three Rivers; in South Carolina’s The Sun News on Jan. 18, claiming an address in Myrtle Beach; and in the Daily News Leader of Staunton, Virginia on Jan. 15, claiming an address in Waynesboro. Her publications list includes other papers in Ohio, West Virginia, Maine, Michigan, Iowa, Pennsylvania and California, all claiming separate addresses.
There has been speculation that Ellie Light is a sockpuppet created by Obama’s Astroturfing henchman, David Axelrod. But that’s just because a bunch of right-wing teabaggers want to discredit the White House.
The truth? Ellie Light is a dirty, rotten, syphilitic whore.
Sue me, Ellie.
UPDATE: Jehuda the Rhetorican has actually composed a thoughtful response to Ellie Light.
Jehuda: Don’t waste your time, man. There’s no point trying to talk sense to her. Stupid tramps like Ellie Light never learn.

A Word About the Blog-O-Bucks
Patrick at Political Byline points out that the blogging life isn’t exactly the fast way to wealth for 99% of the people who do it.
Back when I worked for The Washington Times, I was somewhat naive about the online revenue model. In 2007, I got together in California with several bloggers — including Ace of Spades, Jeff Goldstein, Little Miss Attila and Dr. Rusty Shackleford — and heard them discussing the “blog-o-bucks.” No hard numbers were disclosed and I couldn’t tell whether this was just the usual shoptalk or what.
Well, dear brothers and sisters, when I finally cut loose in 2008, I learned. It’s hard out here for pimp.
There’s a reason that most bloggers have day jobs to pay the bills. You might have noticed Continue reading A Word About the Blog-O-Bucks →
