Instapundit Goes Socialist?
Posted on | November 30, 2021 | Comments Off on Instapundit Goes Socialist?

When I clicked the link, I was shocked to find myself at the World Socialist Web Site, a platform of the Trotskyite “Fourth International.” And if you keep reading the article by Professor Tom Mackaman, you eventually get to the part where he quotes and praises Karl Marx:
But history is “a fixed thing” in at least one sense. The past actually happened. Generations of people lived, worked, created, struggled, loved, fought and died. They did so under conditions not of their own choosing, but those handed down to them from preceding generations. And they did not do so alone. Out of the development of the productive forces, as Marx long ago explained, classes emerged—lord and vassal, master and slave, capitalist and worker—now in hidden, now in open conflict. On top of all of this culture, law, politics, language, nation—and, with apologies to Hannah-Jones—race developed, always reflecting the ideology of the ruling layers, and always interacting dynamically with the class structure. . . .
Gobineau’s racialist conception of history appeared as a ruling class response to the emergence of the working class, and, in that connection, to the development of the materialist conception of history. This Marx and Engels had begun to develop in the 1840s as a critique of the Hegelian dialectic, which, not dissimilarly from Bancroft’s conception of American history, had imagined history to be the working out of a transcendent idea into the real world. Among the many expositions Marx and Engels gave of the materialist conception of history, perhaps the most succinct is a portion of Engels’ eulogy at Marx’s graveside in 1883:
Marx discovered the law of development of human history: the simple fact, hitherto concealed by an overgrowth of ideology, that mankind must first of all eat, drink, have shelter and clothing, before it can pursue politics, science, art, religion, etc.; that therefore the production of the immediate material means, and consequently the degree of economic development attained by a given people or during a given epoch, form the foundation upon which the state institutions, the legal conceptions, art, and even the ideas on religion, of the people concerned have been evolved, and in the light of which they must, therefore, be explained, instead of vice versa, as had hitherto been the case.
Within this vast arena history has unfolded. It is “fixed” because none of what happened can ever be changed even by one whit. And therein lies both the tragedy of history and its powerful capacity to speak to that which is progressive in the present. The tragedy of history and “the lessons” go together. This is the Via Dolorosa of the working class, Rosa Luxemburg said.
It is not my habit to look a gift horse in the mouth and, when one is engaged in all-out political combat, it is unnecessary (and in many cases unwise) to question the motives of one’s allies — the enemy of my enemy is my friend, and I don’t much care why he hates my enemy.
“Any stick will do to beat a mad dog,” as the old country saying goes, and when a doctrinaire Marxist is whacking away at Nikole Hannah-Jones, Ibram X. Kendi, et al., all I can say is, “Carry on, brother!”
Nevertheless, it must be said that Marxism is the deadliest idea in human history, having caused about 100 million deaths in the 20th century.
Marx’s “materialist conception of history,” far from being a scientific discovery, was an intellectual formula for limitless hatred.
Karl Marx began with the idea of fomenting bloodshed in revolutionary class warfare, and his “materialist conception of history” was developed as a pretext for this intended slaughter. The ironic consequence — i.e., that the Marxist idea ultimately killed far more workers than the reactionary forces of the bourgeoisie ever did — has never been fully acknowledged by the Left, including such Trotskyists as Professor Mackaman. Like their namesake, Trotskyists prefer to dwell in that dream world where their beloved “dictatorship of the proletariat” requires no gulags, no secret police, no summary executions.
For Trotsky himself, this dream ended with the “materialist conception” of an ice-ax to the skull wielded by Stalinist agent Ramón Mercader.
Like so many socialists before him, Tom Mackaman wishes to rescue the Marxist idea from the evidence of its failure. And in attacking the racial obsessions of Hannah-Jones, et al., Professor Mackaman fails to acknowledge what is obvious to most conservatives, namely that “Critical Race Theory” is derived from Marxism, with race replacing class as the categorical basis of revolutionary struggle. (Feminism is similarly derived from Marxism, with sex replacing class as the basis of struggle.) That the Left has fragmented into warring factions, divided by identity politics, is something Mackaman laments but cannot remedy for the simple reason that leftists are human beings, and thus naturally self-centered, prone to heed whatever political appeal is most flattering to their egos.
“Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity. What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun? . . . The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun. . . . Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.”
Such is the only wisdom that will preserve us in this evil hour, the only truth that can guide us toward righteousness. The godless Commies are doomed to the pit of Hell, of course, and I would hope Professor Reynolds doesn’t mind my McCarthyism in warning against this danger.
If hating Commies is wrong, I don’t want to be right.
Confirmed: CNN Is Garbage
Posted on | November 30, 2021 | Comments Off on Confirmed: CNN Is Garbage

As if any further confirmation were needed:
Chris Cuomo, host of CNN’s Cuomo Prime Time, used his media sources to dig up info on his brother, former Governor Andrew Cuomo’s, sexual harassment accusers, according to texts and interview transcripts recently revealed.
Text messages released by New York Attorney General Letitia James show Chris Cuomo had frequent contact with Melissa DeRosa, Andrew Cuomo’s top aide at the time.
In early March, the New York Times reported that the former governor tried kissing a woman, Anna Ruch, without her consent. Three days after this report, Chris Cuomo texted DeRosa, “I have a lead on the wedding girl.”
Other messages indicated Chris Cuomo’s willingness to help with his brother’s response and preparation on the sexual harassment allegations. “Please let me help with the prep,” Cuomo told DeRosa in one text.
In another text, Chris Cuomo sent DeRosa a fully written statement for the governor to use publicly . . .
He was writing objective journalism for his brother, the Democratic politician. What’s beautiful about this is how Letitia James, a black woman, is releasing this information to destroy the white “Boys Club” that has so long controlled the Democratic Party in New York.
The formula by which the Cuomo machine operated involved pandering to women and minorities in order to elect white guys with a “D” beside their names. A key part of this formula was a messaging strategy that relied on accusations of sexism and racism against Republicans. “Vote for us,” said Democrats like Cuomo, “because we care about you.” And of course, the Cuomo machine had the enthusiastic cooperation of the media is promulgating this message, which is where having the governor’s brother as CNN anchor was so convenient.
Such a strategy is ultimately doomed, for the simple reason that eventually women and minorities stop being content with the representation provided by “caring” Democratic white guys, and reach to take power in their own names. Once the Democratic Party no longer functions as a vehicle for the personal ambitions of liberal white guys, the political landscape is permanently altered. Look at the plight of Beto O’Rourke in Texas, for example; he keeps offering himself as the “white savior” of Texas Democrats, but can’t win elections, because the raison d’être of the Texas Democratic party is its anti-white/anti-male ideology: If it’s not about hating white guys, why bother voting at all?
Organizing on the basis of identity politics, as Democrats have done, requires banishing white men from positions of party leadership. Eventually, then, “white Democrat” must become a non-existent category, and Democrats refuse to see where this is leading them.
The riptides that dragged Andrew Cuomo under the waves are now swirling around Chris Cuomo, and he won’t remain afloat much longer.

Imagine for a moment you looked exactly like Scarlett Johansson. So much so your own mothers would have trouble telling you apart. Imagine the opportunities open to you as a model and cosplayer. Now imagine (and this is the easy part) that you’re on the Internet, where all manner of dim and socially inept losers can find you, and you start getting hate mail directed to your famous lookalike…suddenly it doesn’t sound like such a great deal, right? Welcome to the world of Russian model Irina Shumskaya. Picture is from the NY Post article on her – it would have been too easy to use a pic of her cosplaying Natasha Romanova. Even if she looks super-hot in the leather pants.

‘Mac Jones Can’t Throw Deep’?
Posted on | November 27, 2021 | Comments Off on ‘Mac Jones Can’t Throw Deep’?

Fox Sports host Colin Cowherd posted a video rebutting the frequently heard criticism that Mac Jones lacks arm strength. Because of NFL policy, I can’t embed that video here, but you can click the link and watch five minutes of Jones’s NFL highlights so far his rookie year. What infuriates me about this “weak arm” nonsense is that, as an Alabama fan, I watched Mac Jone repeatedly hit long passes on the way to an undefeated season and the national championship. Watch the highlights from the SEC title game against Florida:
Jones completed 33 of 43 passes (76.7%) for 418 yards and five touchdowns in that game. Watch his 31-yard touchdown pass to Devonta Smith here and tell me Jones has a “weak arm” — it’s absurd. If you’re not yet convinced, watch these highlights of Mac Jones in the national championship game against Ohio State:
Mack Jones completed 36 of 45 passes (80%) for 464 yards and five touchdowns against Ohio State. Can Mac throw deep? Watch this pass from his own 25 where he hits Devonta Smith at the Ohio State 47.
Now that the Patriots are 7-4, riding a five-game winning streak — with Mac Jones far and away this year’s best rookie quarterback in the NFL — he is under a microscope of media attention. Much of the credit for New England’s turnaround after a 2-4 start goes to the Patriots’ defense, and there are still analysts who express doubt whether Jones has what it takes to be a truly great pro quarterback. He will have the opportunity to silence those critics during the next four games, when the Patriots play the 8-3 Tennessee Titans on Sunday, followed by a Dec. 6 Monday night road game against the 7-4 Buffalo Bills, followed by a bye week before a Dec. 18 game at the 6-5 Indianapolis Colts, and then a Dec. 26 home game with Buffalo. It is entirely possible that the Patriots could win all four of those games, and Mac Jones will have plenty of chances to prove his critics wrong. Make it happen, Mac. Roll Tide!
Darrell Brooks: Menace to Society
Posted on | November 27, 2021 | Comments Off on Darrell Brooks: Menace to Society

We are learning more about the perpetrator of the Waukesha massacre, including his arrest for battery in Fulton County, Georgia:
Police say the man accused of plowing into a Christmas parade in Wisconsin and killing six people was arrested in Union City earlier this year.
Police say Darrell E. Brooks, 39, drove his SUV through a parade in Waukesha last weekend. Five adults and an 8-year-old boy were killed and at least 60 other people were injured.
Brooks has been charged with five counts of intentional homicide, and prosecutors are expected to file a sixth charge.
A witness told police he heard Brooks hitting his girlfriend through the wall. The witness said he confronted Brooks, who then called the police and claimed the witness was harassing the couple.
Police were able to determine that Brooks was the aggressor and that his girlfriend had injuries consistent with domestic abuse.
Brooks was taken to the East Point Jail. It’s unclear what happened to the case after that or if Brooks was convicted of anything.
The New York Post did a deep dive on Brooks that found “his life of crime started 22 years ago when he was just 17 years old.” Among other charges, “in July 2020, he fired a gun at his nephew during a fight over a cellphone,” and police “found Brooks with a stolen Beretta 9mm handgun and a clear plastic baggie with three multi-colored methamphetamine pills inside.” Considering that Brooks was already a convicted felon, prohibited from possessing a firearm, you might think this incident would have resulted in a long prison sentence. Instead, “he was released in February 2021 on a $500 bail,” which is when he went to Georgia and was busted for beating his girlfriend in a motel about 10 miles from the Atlanta airport. With charges pending in Georgia — where officials apparently didn’t realize Brooks was wanted in Nevada for violating terms of his release as a convicted sex offender — Brooks returned to Milwaukee, where he soon committed further violence:
Brooks allegedly accosted the woman and knocked her cellphone out of her hand and then went after her in his Ford Escape when she fled.
He caught up with her at a BP gas station about a half mile from the motel and demanded she get in his car, court records allege. When she refused, he struck her in the face and then ran her over with his car, leaving the woman with “swelling to her lip and dry blood on her face” and “tire tracks on her left pants leg,” police said.
The ex-girlfriend later told cops that Brooks had allegedly threatened to kill her on multiple occasions, had previously tried to choke her and was jealous and controlling, according to police reports obtained by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Brooks denied the allegations and suggested to police the woman made them up because she was drunk.
He ended up being charged with recklessly endangering safety, bail jumping, battery and disorderly conduct in the incident but was given an “inappropriately low” bail of $1,000, Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm later said, leaving him free to wreak havoc on the Christmas parade about three weeks later.
So here is the timeline:
- July 2020: Fires gun at nephew in Milwaukee.
- February 2021: Released on $500 bail.
- May 2021: Arrested for battery in Georgia.
- November 2, 2021: Runs over girlfriend in Milwaukee.
- November 19, 2021: Released on $1,000 bail.
On the day of his murderous rampage, Nov. 22, was again engaged in domestic violence, attacking an ex-girlfriend in Waukesha. She was seen “running away from him with a black eye just moments before the carnage unfolded.” Before police could respond to that attack, Brooks had fled the scene, and ignored officers who tried to stop him as he plowed through the parade route, killing six people and injuring dozens more.
As Glenn Reynolds observes, this is all a result of Democrat policies.
