I get tired of saying this, but we can’t let polls do our thinking for us. A Los Angeles Times poll appears to have oversampled Democrats, as Professor Donald Douglas explains at American Power.
Disinformation is the new objectivity.

American Power completely misses the point of the tenured English professor/dominatrix story. This is exactly the sort of ‘discipline’ we need to inject into our government and news media.
Lisa D. Chávez for Press Secretary!
She even looks like the woman in the blue blouse in the Devo video.
ROSSYLYN, Va. — Just as I predicted, President Obama’s Hollywood fundraiser produced a traffic catastrophe in Los Angeles:
While I was in Los Angeles yesterday, I got a call from my friend Joe Fein, who told me he wouldn’t be able to make it to an event featuring Pamela Geller, author of The Post-American Presidency, that he had hoped to attend.
“They’ve shut down Olympic Boulevard!” Joe said in outraged tones, explaining that the major east-west thoroughfare had been closed to allow President Obama’s motorcade to proceed from Los Angeles International Airport to a fundraising dinner with Nancy Pelosi at the home of one of the president’s liberal Hollywood friends.
It turned out that Evan Sayet was right in advising that my trip from the San Fernando Valley down the 405 to LAX would not be delayed by the presidential visit, but pity those Angelenos who were trying to travel east-to-west or vice-versa:
Someone apparently decided that Obama’s $30,000-a-plate dinner at the house of “West Wing” producer John Wells necessitated shutting down most of the major east-west through streets in Los Angeles. . . .
If the President was unable to get to John Wells’ house without causing this level of disruption, then perhaps he should have done his fundraising somewhere else . . .
A reporter for the Los Angeles Times quoted one reader’s comment:
“I was an Obama supporter, but … was stopped by police from crossing Olympic to get home … during my daily dog walk. . . . I’ve lost all belief in his judgment. Can he really think he’s more important than the tens of thousands of people trying to get home to their families?“
Yes He Can!
UPDATE: Joe Fein, who has been trying to get the dysfunctional California GOP to fight for votes in L.A., says Obama’s Mother Of All Traffic Jams has made his job easier.
UPDATE II: Smile and say, “Charles Johnson!”
Professor Donald Douglas has more on last night’s L.A. event with Pamela Geller. I was very impressed with the turnout. Among the 250 or so in attendance was a woman named Rita who, when I asked her last name, became fearful: “Don’t put my last name in there. I’m in the entertainment business. You do that” — i.e., identify yourself as a Republican in Hollywood — “and you’re blacklisted.”
BTW, to explain the Rosslyn dateline on this post: I’m blogging from the offices of The American Spectator, whence I’ve come to spend a few hours because my wife can’t pick me up until this afternoon. Let me suggest that you should subscribe today, because sooner or later I’m going to file another expense report and . . . well, talk about a nightmare!
Thanks to all those who’ve contributed to the Shoe Leather Fund to help keep me traveling during this campaign year. My current plans are to visit Delaware next, before taking a trip down South. And thanks, of course, to Mrs. Other McCain for putting up with my vagabond existence. I should point out that my lovely bride recently got her own Twitter account. She doesn’t Tweet much, although she did suggest she’s looking forward to my homecoming, IYKWIMAITYD.
UPDATE III: Obama’s departure was no less disastrous than his arrival, a Twitter friend informs me:
Obama arrived in rush hour traffic, and he left this morning in it, too. Everyone in my office was late to work this morning.
And in the comments, our California friend Jehuda the Rhetorican says:
It is very likely POTUS saved or created thousands of GOP voters through the traffic jams he unleashed last night. . . . I was in one of them. Not fun.
“Fun”? Whoever said Hope and Change would be fun?
UPDATE IV: Wow, they’re really angry out there:
One man, who did not want to give his name, said it had taken his wife four hours to drive home from Brentwood. Another man trying to walk west on 6th Street to his office shouted at the officers blocking his way and told them he wished he had voted for Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), Obama’s opponent in the 2008 presidential race.
Heh.
LOS ANGELES — Frankly, I didn’t think it could happen, and blogged to that effect. But when I stopped by for a cup of coffee with Evan Sayet, he told me that it was entirely possible to attend the Pamela Geller/Robert Spencer event at 7 p.m. and still make it to LAX in time to catch the red-eye flight back east. So I did.
Pamela Geller and America’s Favorite Funny Man, Evan Sayet.
Donald Douglas will file this photo under “Rule 5.”
America’s Favorite Funny Man kills ’em.
Robert Spencer and Pamela Geller on stage at the Skirball Cultural Center.
Here you can see the full-house crowd for Monday’s event, sponsored by the David Horowitz Freedom Center and Children of Jewish Holocaust Survivors.
Pamela Geller was in an especially good mood, considering the latest news about the Ground Zero Mosque. And she was laughing about the fact that Charles Johnson was going totally berserk:
Something about a “dish best served cold,” y’know. Hey, CJ, is Harry Reid a “hateblogger,” too?
Well, my flight starts boarding in five minutes. Goodbye, Hollywood — I’m going home!

Donald Douglas’s lengthy post on the Arizona SB1070 protest really points out why we need to rely on what reputable outfits like the LA Times, NY Times, and Rachel Maddow tell us, and not the defective output of perhaps well-intentioned, but poorly equipped civilian reporters like Don.
Somebody could walk away with the mistaken impression that a bunch of KKK- and swastika-laden imagery meant a disdain for American sovereignty and personal attacks, when really all that was meant was a show of concern for healthy potassium intake by a bunch of Hindus and Budhhists.
Mr. Douglas is admonished to make a proper study of the Holy Narrative before contributing more of these unhelpful reports.
In all seriousness, there is slight merit in the media not inflaming the reports of these rallies. A tactically difficult situation could develop faster than you can say “Ron Gochez is a knob”. Strategically, the situation is even worse. Beyond the suckiness of the situation is the leadership vacuum besetting the country.
“Love thy neighbor as thyself” is not a foreign policy statement, yet we’re mis-applying that ethic in a couple of ways:
The one picture proclaiming the right to migrate anywhere on the continent represents a notion that must be gently refuted.
Border security, like energy security, is a hard problem. The country is going to have to insist on candidates with platforms, not platitudes, to address these issues.
Or just learn to speak Spanish. It’s really not a bad language. At least the alphabet is familiar, and it’s not tonal like Far Eastern tongues. So ya got that goin’ for ya.
Update: Carol’s Closet is far less mellow.
Update II: Saberpoint has his way with the sign that is likely to draw the most attention.

American Power reports on Mass. Rep. Michael Moran, rear-ended by an apparently illegal alien.
Past the snarky title, let us:
That said, it will be interesting to watch this “unfortunately undocumented societal victim of Bush-era injustice” move through the system.
Since it is difficult to pursue journalism while pandering, I’d expect this story to get rear-ended by a propaganda-drunk media.
While the so-called elite continue to pile on Arizona over SB-1070, more states line up to follow, and the Administration shows exactly 0 capacity to reflect and alter course, one wonders which unfortunate incident will push the whole situation over the edge.
Update: (via Lucianne) ABC Reports that Bill Clinton’s van was also rear-ended while en route Yale. We must dispatch Da Tech Guy STAT to get to the bottom of this rash of tail-chasing smacking the cheeks of these public figures in the Northeast. Could it be a Belvedere-ian plot?

American Power takes National Offend A Feminist Week quite seriously, relating an incident wherein he quoted Alaina Podmorow, a 13 year old Afghan girl actually supporting the cause of oppressed young women.
Laura Sjoberg, like any ivory tower authoritarian or Barack Obama, is having none of this.
This is not to take anything away from the very bright, very passionate “little woman” whose blog post was appropriated on American Power. Her passionate writing is clearly intelligent, well beyond her years, and a valid and important point of view.
That said, it is, of course, not all there is to the issue. One cannot expect someone who has not yet had a college education to dig through decades and even centuries of theorizing and empirical work on gender relations in political and social life, and certainly activism on behalf of women, in whatever form, is far preferable to the sort of apathy that seems to be largely endemic in younger people now.
Alaina’s current thesis,
Education=peace
cannot be congratulated without a heavy dose of condescension. Alaina cannot be allowed to question whether the work of the academic behind the curtain adds much value, or, indeed perpetuates the problem as much as the racism industrial complex does those of skin tone. Alaina, similar to Joe, is not worthy of dialog.
Not having perused Sjoberg’s work, e.g. “Gender and International Security: Feminist Perspectives”, I’ll withhold judgement. But, having suffered through a bit of such navel gazing academic writing within the last decade, here is something I learned. A colon in the title of an academic paper is symbolic of the vampiric puncture wound left upon the neck of the reader, sucking life after the fashion of this paragraph:
Whatever is in Melanie Butler’s Masters Thesis (which, however excellent it might be, is not “the” statement of postcolonial feminism), it remains, in my opinion, crucially important to look at the complexities of providing aid, generally and in this specific case, especially as relates to the power relationship between the “aid givers” and those who are “aided.” In fact, I don’t know why it is so hard for us to envision that sometimes people offer people “help” they do not want and do not see as helpful (christian evangelism, anyone?)
Brevity.
Again, Laura Sjoberg (I hope) exceeds the stereotype of the academic, just as I hope(d) Barack would exceed the stereotype of the banana republic thug, and failed in Joe’s case. Donald at American Power is sort of a Rush Limbaugh in this equation, enabling the dialog and getting hammered for threatening the narrative.
Update: The Daley Gator calls attention to this fine post, which offers a fine solution to the Elisabeth/Erin fued.
Could this be a reference to notorious chubby-chaser Dan Collins? Never mind. Frankly, we like ladies somewhere in the range between “a little more to love” and “never missed a biscuit.” More to love and all that.
So we were pleased to see that when it came time to post a scandalous plus-size lingerie video, our friend Donald Douglas thought of us:
This commercial is so sexy, two networks refused to air it:
It appears that ABC and Fox have made the decision to define beauty for you by denying our new, groundbreaking Cacique commercial from airing freely on their networks.
ABC refused to show the commercial during “Dancing with the Stars” without restricting our airtime to the final moments of the show. Fox demanded excessive re-edits and rebuffed it three times before relenting to air it during the final 10 minutes of “American Idol,” but only after we threatened to pull the ad buy.
Yes, these are the same networks that have scantily-clad housewives so desperate they seduce every man on the block, and don’t forget Bart Simpson, who has shown us the moon more often than NASA, all during what they call “prime time.”
That’s OK. The Old Media monopoly can’t stop an Army of Davids who dig those Goliath-sized beauties, somewhere in the range between more-cushion-for-the-pushin’ and roll-her-in-flour-and-look-for-the-wet-spot.
UPDATE: We should have expected Bob Belvedere to beat us to this big beauty, whom he identifies as Ashley Graham, with coverage from the New York Post. Ah, but I found this video interview with Ashley’s reaction to being banned:
She’s got a very sexy voice, too.
