Troubling News From Fitchburg, Mass.: If Scott Brown’s Lost Josh Romano . . .

In his new gig writing for the Examiner, Pete Da Tech Guy finds trouble at the corner market for the “41st vote”:

We now know Brown’s price; $354,000.

That’s a local voter’s reaction to this Boston Herald article:

U.S. Sen. Scott Brown – the upstart GOP maverick who has threatened to filibuster the Democrats’ move to rein in Wall Street – raked in hundreds of thousands from investment banks blamed for the economic meltdown – including Goldman Sachs, according to a Washington, D.C. watchdog. . . .
Wall Street firms were Brown’s second-biggest donors, dishing out $354,000 to his campaign, including $5,500 from Goldman, according to the D.C. group.

“Party of the rich,” blah blah blah. The financial regulation bill is a phony load of crap, and no sensible person has to be bribed to oppose it, so there is no basis for the insinuation that Scott Brown is merely doing the bidding of Corporate Amerikkka. And I’m betting Chris Dodd and Barney Frank have gotten a lot more Wall Street money than Brown has.

Congratulations to Da Tech Guy on his new gig — it doesn’t pay all that much, but he’s already got an Instalanche on one of his articles. Meanwhile, his famous “Have Fedora, Will Travel” offer is still available, if you get the urge to hit his tip jar, as you certainly should.

His Fedora Still Travels

NEW ORLEANS — As Smitty noted yesterday, Da Tech Guy continues his standing offer to travel anywhere to cover a story for $1,000 a week plus expenses. He was kind enough to extend the loan of his casual fedora — my favorite from the Scott Brown campaign we covered together — which has made several guest appearances here at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference.

Andrew Breitbart and the fedora.

Herman Cain and the fedora.

Please, help Da Tech Guy find the story that will allow him to travel as widely as his fedora has been traveling lately. Other assignments beckon me soon, but I sure wish y’all would send Da Tech Guy down to Savannah to cover the Ray McKinney campaign. It just so happens that the campaign has been making news lately, and Ray has two Republican primary opponents who might like to be interviewed by the founder of the Fedora Brotherhood.

Da Tech Guy And The Travelling Fedora Show

by Smitty

Da Tech Guy who, it is fair to say, blogged everyone else at CPAC ’10 into the dust, has an announcement and details for his splendid blogging road show.

Having had the privilege of hosting him here at my modest abode, I will say that I can’t think of a more warm, genuine person than DTG. So, if there is an event or political race that could benefit from high-quality reporting at a substantial cost avoidance, do consider getting in touch with this fellow and working the details.

Reason #7,126 Why Alyssa Milano
Should Be Following Me on Twitter

Just in case you were wondering:

LAS VEGAS – Now Tweeting completely naked in Room 249 at the Orleans Hotel. About to get in the shower. Checkout time in 1 hr, 17 minutes.

All I need is just one re-Tweet, Alyssa.

Now it’s nearly checkout time, which means I’m fully dressed — including the fedora I borrowed from Da Tech Guy — and ready to take that big red Chevy rental car on the road to do some campaign coverage before heading out to Searchlight to see the Tea Party site.

Have Blog (And Fedora) Will Travel

Pete Da Tech Guy has been inspired by the success of his CPAC trip:

Do you have an event anywhere in the country that you want covered? I’m willing to do it. My fee is very straightforward. 1 week: $1000 plus expenses. . . .
My total hits for Jan & Feb were over 80% of my total for the entire previous year. . . .
The continued success of the blog coupled with my continued failure to find work in my field puts me in a dilemma. Potentially the blog’s success could turn into something that might support me but I’m not sure that people are dying to pay me to write from Fitchburg, (fascinating though I find my home town). I’ve now managed some national and state attention. I’ve been a credentialed blogger both at the state (Brown Election) level and at the national level (CPAC). . . .
If I’m going to support my family the blog and I are going to have to do our part, to wit the offer; $1,000 a week plus expenses.

Read the rest. It’s a very ambitious goal, and some bloggers may say, “A thousand a week? That’s an awful lot to expect from the tip jar.” But as they say, aim for the stars and you might just make it to the moon.

Or Hollywood. In case you missed it yesterday, I’m planning to leave in late March on a transcontinental road-trip  — among other things, I want to check out the Senate campaigns in Arizona and Nevada — and figure since I’m going that far west, I might as well go all the way to L.A. So expect me to be furiously rattling the tip jar for the Shoe Leather Fund this month.

And why not send Da Tech Guy on that trip? Maybe not the whole trip (I’ve got some other stops to make along the way West and back), but if Da Tech Guy could book a flight into Phoenix with a return trip out of LAX, we could cover that together.

Today is March 6 and if we’re going to spend two days in Nevada and be in L.A. by April 1, I’d say we need to get to Phoenix by March 27.

So that’s three weeks for Pete to raise $1,000 plus expenses for the trip.

Jumping In Pools Interviews Da Tech Guy

by Smitty

JIP has an interview with one of the warmest, most genuine people I’ve ever had the privilege of meeting. I did fear Da Tech Guy would blow a gasket and miss his flight home, what with all of the interviewing and blogging, but he can do exhaustion management with the best of them. I, on the other hand, require my beauty sleep.

What a champ. Hopefully we’ll get him back again.

Update: We do, almost immediately, in the form of a travelogue post concerning CPAC.
