This year, as Alli and I await the birth of our first child, due this fall, we began receiving our first Mother’s Day congratulations from friends and family. . . .
I’m most often asked whether I’m worried about bonding with the baby as the non-biological parent.
I’ve got to tell you, this question infuriates me.
Despite what are certainly best intentions and a tacit show of empathy, the question irks me because it puts a premium on biological links, as though the strength of a parent-child relationship is only correlated to bloodlines: the more biologically-related, the stronger the bond. As an adoptee myself, with a partner raised by lesbian moms, I know that there are many ties beyond biology that bind families and drive the parent/child bond. Though it’s less surprising that this sentiment is common among heterosexual couples who usually reproduce biological children, I am struck by the force of this sentiment within the LGBT community . . .

In case you missed any of that: Bjerk was adopted and her lesbian partner Allison Auldrige (now pregnant with “our first child”) was “raised by lesbian moms.” Bjerk continues:

Even as we battle the myths surrounding race, gender, gender roles, sexuality, class, domesticity and the nuclear family, we haven’t adequately addressed the myths or stigma around non-biological family structures, particularly when it comes to parent-child relationships and adoption. And though I don’t want to discourage any couple from having biological children, I do want to suggest that it’s high time we address the stigma of non-biologically related family members.
As an adoptee, I’ve witnessed this stigma first-hand. . . .

(In the span of three sentences, she used “stigma” three times. Perhaps we should stigmatize repetitiveness?)

The fact of the matter is that families come in all shapes, sizes and formations. More gay parents and straight parents alike are raising stepchildren and/or adopted children, bringing much-needed awareness about the growth of blended families in the country. Indeed, more than three million LGBT Americans have children, and more than 125,000 same-sex couples are currently raising one or more children under the age of 18, including biological, step, or adopted children. What’s more, six million Americans report having a parent who self-identifies as LGBT.
I think this growing family diversity is something to celebrate. . . .

Well, of course, you do! Forty percent of children are born to unmarried women and half of marriages with children end in divorce and isn’t “this growing family diversity” totally awesome? Really, normal parents who stay married should be ashamed of themselves for cheating their children out of “family diversity.”

Father’s Day is a perfect occasion for lectures about the meaning of “family” from lesbians whose sperm-donor motherhood deliberately deprives their children of having a father. Hallmark has finally issued LGBT Father’s Day cards, and I’m sure everybody celebrated “Blogging for LGBTQ Families Day,” right?

Sonya, at the COLAGE KidSafe blog, writes of “Two Separate Identities,” hers and her moms’. She’s the queer child of lesbian moms, but explains that she is not queer because of them.
Hannah Moch, who has two moms, writes at the GLAAD blog about why she publicly thanked her moms at her college graduation — including the fact that the two of them remained friends even after they broke up.

And they all lived insanely ever after!

We’ll let Dustbury review the footwear, but how about the trou?As Obama’s fundamental transformation of our country continues to move us off that pesky Constitution and pave the way for Rule By Overlords, it’s important that the peasantry be afforded at least the hope of distraction by fashion.

As Her Majesty uncoils from her torpor and prepares for residence in the Oval Throneroom, the peasants can be pleased at the style on display by the underpaid, pauper princess. So let’s reach back to the realm of another queen for a wee salute:

Fugitive Florida Sex Offender Flees to Canada, Claims ‘Refugee’ Status

Denise Harvey, 45, molested a 16-year-old Florida boy.

Denise Harvey is from Indian River County, the same community that is also home to notorious sex offender Kaitlyn Hunt. Some people may think exiling criminal perverts to Canada would be adequate punishment, but Florida officials want her extradited:

Vero Beach fugitive Denise Harvey is claiming refugee status in Canada, saying the 30-year sentence she received for having sex with a 16-year-old amounts to “cruel and unusual punishment.”
An hour-long private “detention review” was held Monday in Saskatoon, the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, for Harvey, 45. She was released from Royal Canadian Mounted Police custody late Monday afternoon on a $5,000 bond, Harvey’s lawyer Chris Veeman said.
“I think she’s relieved to be out of jail,” said Veeman, a Saskatoon immigration law specialist.
Harvey plans to remain with husband, Charles, at their home in Pike Lake, about 18 miles south of Saskatoon, where they have lived since fleeing Florida nearly a year ago, Veeman said.
Harvey was convicted in 2008 on multiple counts of felony unlawful sex activity with certain minors. The charges stem from sexual encounters with her son’s then-16-year-old baseball teammate and friend. . . .
Details of the case aside, Veeman said a 30-year sentence is grounds for a refugee claim. It’s not a “classic” claim under the United Nations convention that usually pertains to political prisoners from Third World dictatorships. He acknowledged a refugee claim from an American might seem unusual, but it is valid nonetheless.
“Thirty years is too high. It’s way out of whack. I think there is merit to her (refugee) claim,” Veeman said.
The refugee claim could take months — or longer — to resolve. Harvey has 28 days to file her reasons for the claim and a multi-step process will follow.
The refugee claim is one of several intriguing legal possibilities the case raises. Harvey was arrested last week on the request of U.S. Marshals and Florida justice officials, who want her extradited to serve her time. But Canada does not extradite people unless the incident is a crime in both countries, according to the Department of Justice website — a principle known as “double criminality.”
Having sexual relations with a 16-year-old is not against the law in Canada, unless there is a power dynamic such as teacher-student.

The Iraq Disaster

Four years ago, Vice President Joe Biden claimed that Obama’s Iraq policy would be “one of the greatest achievements” of his administration. If by “greatest achievements,” you mean anarchy as Iraq is overrun by al-Qaeda terrorists, I guess Biden was right:

The likely breakup of Iraq into feuding ethnic and sectarian bastions accelerated Friday as Iraq’s senior Shiite Muslim cleric broke years of support for the central government and decreed that every able-bodied Shiite man had a religious obligation to defend the sect’s holy sites from rebellious Sunni Muslims led by fighters from the extremist Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.
In answer to the call, thousands of Shiites — many with militia experience from the sectarian war that pitted Sunnis against Shiites and killed thousands from 2006 to 2008– flooded the cities of Baghdad, Najaf and Karbala to receive weapons, enlist in organized units and receive their orders.

“Greatest achievements”:

The Shiite-led government of Iraq’s Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki remained in paralysis Friday, unable to form a coherent response after al-Qaida-inspired militants blitzed and captured entire chunks of the nation’s Sunni heartland this week, including major cities, towns, military and police bases as Iraqi forces melted away or fled.
The new reality is the biggest threat to Iraq’s stability since the U.S. withdrawal at the end of 2011, and it has pushed the nation closer to a precipice that would partition it into Sunni, Shiite and Kurdish zones.
Fighters from the militant group known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant on Thursday vowed to march on Baghdad, joined by Saddam Hussein-era loyalists and other disaffected Sunnis.
Trumpeting their victory, the militants also declared they would impose Shariah law in Mosul, Iraq’s second-largest city they captured on Tuesday, and other areas they seized.

“Greatest achievements”:

[A]ny reduction in the flow of Iraqi crude due to the ongoing Islamic insurgency in the northern Iraq cities of Mosul and Tikrit could have worldwide economic consequences, according to oil industry analyst Phill Flynn, who said speculators are watching for the worst-case scenario.
“They think that Baghdad will not fall and that will be a more spirited defense of that city,” Flynn said. “But if it does fall and if the terrorists move further south, the price you’re paying at the pump today is gonna look like a bargain in a couple weeks.”

Can the U.S. embassy in Iraq withstand attack? Gosh, why does this all seem so familiar? It’s like the 1970s or something.

The O. Henry Plot Twist

Readers will remember the case of Rebecca Diebolt, the California teacher charged with having a lesbian affair with a teenage student.

Now brace yourself for the unexpected plot twist:

Perhaps no one is more blown away by a teacher’s arrest for allegedly molesting a female student starting when the girl was 15 than the woman’s colleagues who just attended her baby shower.
Teachers at Valencia High School in Placentia speaking with the Weekly under condition of anonymity say 35-year-old Rebecca Eileen Diebolt of Brea is pregnant.

Actually, this plot twist should not be so unexpected. Many of the women arrested on lesbian molestation charges seem to be otherwise heterosexual, and some of them are married mothers. To cite one recent example, Florida dance teacher Nichol Marie Phelps was a married mother of two when she molested a 15-year-old student.

What’s wrong with these women? Are they “bi-curious,” and just happen to express their same-sex curiosity with underage girls? Or are they closeted lesbians whose “straight” marriages are socially-approved camouflage to create an appearance of normality they use to get access to young girls in predatory stealth mode? Could it be that such cases are just symptomatic of polymorphous perversity?

We don’t know. Female sex offenders aren’t as widely studied as their male counterparts, and most of the testimony we have from the perpetrators is offered in court hearings where the defendant has a motive to minimize or justify their criminal behavior. So we have very little guidance to answer the key questions, “What the hell were you thinking?” and “How did you become such a perverted weirdo?”

Meanwhile, in Orlando:

A Florida teacher and her 58-year-old boyfriend have been accused of sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl.
Kimberly Honaker, 48, had been charged on [May 31] with child neglect for allegedly failing to intervene to stop Robert Pruitt sexually abusing a child.
But on [June 3] Honaker, who has been suspended from the middle school she worked at for 17 years, was arrested again over claims that she had also molested the young girl.
When the language teacher was arrested for a second time, she was charged with lewd molestation and the use of a child in a sexual performance. . . .
The couple were arrested after Pruitt’s ex-wife alerted police to Facebook messages, texts and emails that suggested an inappropriate relationship was taking place.
Pruitt had moved in with Honaker, who he has known for years, in May. Police described the house they shared as being filthy and containing 20 dogs.
Honaker, a mom to twin girls, has been banned from the school campus and is expected to have her pay suspended at the next school meeting, a district spokesman told the Orlando Sentinel. . . .
Police told Click Orlando that Pruitt’s ex-wife had kicked him out of their home earlier this year after suspecting him of having a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old.
He then moved in with Honaker, who is accused of allowing the abuse to continue over the next few weeks.

A middle-school teacher accused of sexually molesting a 13-year-old girl in a filthy house with 20 dogs? What the hell were you thinking and how did you become such a perverted weirdo?”

Our Moral Superiors™

You have to wonder sometimes how the intelligentsia have been able to maintain the myth of their superiority for so long, and how much longer they can keep it up in the face of overwhelming evidence contradicting this myth. For example, the American Studies Association (ASA) boycott campaign against Israel is led by New York University Professor Lisa Duggan, whose expertise is non-existent:

Duggan’s academic specialties are modern U.S. cultural, social and political history; history of gender and sexuality; and lesbian and gay studies. One course of hers at NYU is called “Queer Historiographies and Constructions of Whiteness in the United States.” Her claim to fame: Inventing the word “homonormativity” to explain how many gays now want to mimic straight people, in terms of “domesticity and consumption.”

This academic fraud can no more claim to be an expert on Mideast policy than any random person you might find on a subway train in Manhattan, and yet she is accepted as a leader of the anti-Israel movement, perhaps because anyone who hates Israel is acceptable.

‘A Troubling Echo of Misogynistic Stereotypes of the Spiteful Ex-Wife’

Just encountered that phrase in an article at The Atlantic and wondered: Are they implying that spiteful ex-wives don’t exist?

Assuming that the writer isn’t actually denying the existence of spiteful ex-wives, why is it “misogynistic” to acknowledge the truth of the old adage that “hell hath no fury like a woman scorned”? Most women recognize this as true, especially because it is often women — e.g., the guy’s new girlfriend — who are targets of the fury of scorned women.

Stereotypes exist for a reason, and not merely because of bigotry.

Does the GOP Establishment Endorse Thad Cochran’s Bestiality Nostalgia?

In a speech, the senile old fool distinguished Senator from Mississippi waxed nostalgic about his youth, when he did “all kind of indecent things with animals,” a practice he ascribed to the region’s “culture.”

Does the National Republican Senatorial Committee endorse this sort of thing? Are they pro-bestiality or anti-bestiality, or will they need to conduct a poll to determine their position on this issue?

Of course, it’s hard for the NRSC to condemn anything as unnatural or degenerate, when they’re spending millions of dollars to try to make Mitch McConnell Senate Majority Leader. I’d rather screw a goat.
