The @AmandaMarcotte Birth Control ObamaCare Fear-Mongering Crusade

Donald Douglas points out that everyone’s favorite baby-killing enthusiast has found a new focus for her feminist lunatic rage, namely a pending Supreme Court case about the ObamaCare mandate that insurers must provide free contraceptive coverage.

Before addressing Amanda Marcotte’s irrational claims directly, let me ask: Does anyone else remember the Iraq War military draft conspiracy theories spread by the Left during the Bush administration?

One of the dirty little secrets of the Bush-era antiwar movement was how the Left cynically exploited the vast ignorance of American youth to foment antiwar sentiment on college campuses: The 9/11 “Truthers” were the most gaudy example of this, but there was also the claim that the Iraq invasion was a “War for Oil” conspiracy to enrich Halliburton and fatten U.S. oil company profits, and arguably the antiwar Left’s most blatant lie was that neocons in the Bush administration were secretly plotting to reinstitute the military draft. It wasn’t just crackpots at the Daily Kos promoting this, either. Howard Dean said it in a 2004 speech at Brown University: “I think that George Bush is certainly going to have a draft if he goes into a second term, and any young person who doesn’t want to go to Iraq might think twice about voting for him.”

This kind of irresponsible fear-mongering builds on the mythmaking success of the academic Left and the liberal media. Nobody under age 50 remembers that it was a Republican, Richard Nixon, who ended the military draft on the advice of free-market economist Milton Friedman, nor have the young ever been told how Democrats branded Ronald Reagan a warmonger who would lead us to nuclear Armageddon, when in point of fact, it was Reagan who successfully negotiated the elimination of nuclear weapons and ultimately ended the Cold War.

Because young people are not taught about the long and sordid history of Democrat dishonesty, each new liberal lie is enthusiastically embraced by college kids who think it is always the “smart” thing to believe the worst about Republicans.

Thus we return to Amanda Marcotte, who sees the Hobby Lobby case as the first step toward a theocratic “breeder” dystopia:

Well, I have a theory and it’s that this case is about more than just getting the contraception mandate overturned or giving your boss rights to force you to abide by his religious dogma by manipulating your compensation package, though those are also important agenda items for the right. This case is also about manipulating the media, specifically to warm the mainstream media up to the idea that contraception is “controversial” . . . The idea is to get the mainstream media sources to say, “One side says birth control is abortion” over and over and over and over again, until the idea “birth control=abortion” is considered a normal one in American culture. And since abortion is controversial, then, they hope, they can make contraception controversial, too. Once contraception is “controversial” like abortion is, then it’s a hop, skip and a jump away to convincing Republicans it’s politically safe now to start passing laws restricting access to it.

This is one of those ideas that are so crazy only a feminist could possibly believe it. Not even the most devout Catholic or fervent evangelical “Dominionist” can really envision a scenario whereby laws “restricting access” to contraception would be enacted by Republicans or anyone else, even in the most conservative states. Like the deliberately false fearmongering about a return to the military draft 10 years ago, Marcotte and others on the Left are now trying to confuse women, to make them believe that if they vote Republican, the Pill and condoms will soon be outlawed. Witness how Amanda Marcotte begins her discussion of the pending Supreme Court case:

Arguments start this week for Hobby Lobby v. Sebelius, the Supreme Court case that will determine the fate of the contraception mandate put forth by the Department of Health and Human Services after the Affordable Care Act was passed into law. The contraception mandate is part of a larger mandate by the ACA to classify dozens of medical services, like wellness checks and vaccinations, as “preventive” care, which would then require insurance plans to cover them without a copay. The idea is that this will both make health insurance work better for enrollees and save money overall by encouraging prevention. Contraception was included after the Institute of Medicine recommended it for its well-known effects of preventing unwanted pregnancy, and thereby preventing unplanned child-bearing and abortion.

What this case is actually about (no matter what Amanda Marcotte or anyone else tries to tell you) is the attempt by Democrats to dictate the type of health insurance employers must provide. Everyone who isn’t on the payroll of the White House or the DNC agrees by now that ObamaCare is an unworkable scheme, a policy catastrophe that proves the truth of every criticism of central government planning ever made by Mises, Hayek, Friedman and Sowell.

Marcotte refuses to admit that ObamaCare is actually anti-choice, in the economic sense, as the various mandates limit the options of workers and employers in terms of the health insurance options available to them. ObamaCare requires employers to provide comprehensive coverage of contraception with no copay, that is to say, health insurance must cover 100% of the cost of contraceptives.

Well, why?

Marcotte and other Democrats endeavor to frame the argument in the euphemistic language of “women’s health,” but as always, it’s about the money, specifically about using the force of federal law to fund Planned Parenthood and to expand the influence of the radical population-control movement. It’s not about “health” (some forms of contraception involve serious health risks), and it’s not about “choice” (Hobby Lobby isn’t trying to prohibit contraception), it’s about control.

Amanda Marcotte wants Democrats in control of the federal government, and she wants the government in charge of everything.

Her ridiculous fear-mongering, which presents the Hobby Lobby case as the first stealthy step down a slippery slope to theocracy, is in fact the exact opposite of truth: Amanda Marcotte is an outspoken proponent of taxpayer-funded abortion, and one might more accurately see ObamaCare as moving in the direction of making “free” abortion a matter of compulsory federal law.

Neither facts nor logic support Amanda Marcotte’s claims, which are actually rooted in emotional abnormality on her part, representing her bizarre pathological fear and hatred of babies: “I don’t want a baby. . . . Nothing will make me want a baby. . . . This is why, if my birth control fails, I am totally having an abortion.”

Malaysian Prime Minister Gives Press Conference in Perfect English

Yes, I know the big headline is about the lost flight — “It is therefore with deep sadness and regret that I must inform you that, according to this new data, flight MH370 ended in the southern Indian Ocean” — but watching it live on TV, what struck me is that Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak delivered his press conference in such wonderfully fluent English. Razak spoke rather slowly, but quite clearly, and with only the slightest hint of an accent.

This was a triumph of the global Anglosphere. Anyone who speaks English worldwide — in Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Canada, Great Britain, South Africa or wherever — could have understood every word by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, as much as if it had been the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom speaking.

Could someone please explain, then, why it is considered xenophobic bigotry for us to expect immigrants to learn English? All over the world, English is recognized as the language of commerce and prosperity. Welcome to America. Now speak English.

When last we took notice of feminist blogger Radical Wind (“PIV is always rape, OK?“) it was in context of her praise for Mary Daly, but she has not been idle. On Sunday she published these insightful paragraphs in a message to the sisterhood:

Our task as radical feminists is to undo, unlearn and un-peel the workings of men’s violence — including how men’s patterns are embedded in our psyche — and to reveal them to other women, so to spark our movement towards liberation. . . .
Since all forms of domination such as racism, classism, urban vs. rural domination, adult vs. child, human vs. animal, etc. stem from the same male-rapist root, our attitude to all of them should be the same — in short, only a radical feminist attitude towards male domination can be liberating. It is what we already do: raise awareness, name the workings, lies and reversals of patriarchy and reveal our reality as women in this or that form of patriarchal oppression. Explain how men benefit from this practice and how it’s at the expense of all women. How it deceives and traps women in its net. How it reinforces and is linked to male rapism. Seek to meet, make friends with and listen to as many women across male classes, borders and race, and talk about our respective experiences and lives.
Women will relate to that, it will expand our consciousness, deepen our understanding of how men oppress us. It will give each other the power to see which will spark our ethical rage and rage to be free.

In other feminist empowerment news, Duke University freshman Miriam Weeks, a/k/a teen porn star “Belle Knox,” was interviewed last week on Dr. Drew Pinsky’s Headline News show:

KNOX: I didn’t bring my family into this. The media brought my family into this. The media has been the one who has been harassing my family. I`ve made it crystal clear I did not want my family to be involved.
PINSKY: No, no, but . . .
SEGUN ODUOLOWU: But you can’t hide your anonymity. Once you do a video, people will know who you are. I mean it wouldn’t take Sherlock Holmes to find out who you are.
PINSKY: Let me put it there really. Let me put it there really. If I were your dad I’d be chomping down on a cyanide capsule right now. It’s all I’m saying. (LAUGHTER) So, it affects your family in the deep way. And how about that?
KNOX: I’m so glad you laughed at that because that’s just hilarious. But I mean, my family supports me in what I choose to do. . . . And I’m really sick of this entire culture of outing girls who we believe are sexually promiscuous . . .

GIRL IN CHAINS: ‘Domestic Partners’ Charged in ‘Particularly Heinous Case’

Brutally shocking news from Salinas, California:

Three children were rescued from a Monterey County home last week after deputies discovered that two women — one a former correctional officer — had starved, chained and abused the children, officials said Friday.
Sheriff’s deputies rescued the children from the couples’ residence on Russell Road near Salinas on March 14, citing horrific conditions and an 8-year-old girl who looked “like a concentration camp victim,” said Monterey County Sheriff Scott Miller.
Also in the home were two boys, ages 3 and 5.
Miller said Eraca Dawn Craig, 31, and Christian Jessica Deanda, 44, are accused of felony child cruelty, false imprisonment and other charges. . . .
Officers said they found signs the girl had been chained to the wall about 4 feet above the floor and said she may also have been held in a closet. It appeared she had been shackled at times at the ankle and at other times by a collar around her neck.
Miller said it appeared she had “hardly eaten for months.”
The girl and a 5-year-old boy were adopted, he said, while a 3-year-old boy is the biological son of one of the women, who are domestic partners.
The girl was immediately hospitalized for around five days, he said, and appeared to be “very traumatized.”
“It was a particularly heinous case,” Miller said, adding that it appeared the women were preparing to leave the area before they were discovered.
“It seems that the little girl was the major target of this abuse,” he said. . . .

Let me explain — in case anyone is too thick-headed to understand — why this story, including the lesbianism of the “domestic partners,” is newsworthy: Liberal media habitually act as publicity agents for the feminist and gay-rights movements. Both of these movements frame their arguments in the context of victimhood narratives, depicting women and homosexuals as victims of societal prejudice, discrimination and oppression. This one-sided presentation is intended to solicit sympathetic support for the policy agenda of activists, and the liberal bias of media thereby constitutes a deceitful form of political propaganda. What we are told about the lives of women and homosexuals is deliberately selective, a Potemkin village depiction of their inherent wonderfulness and virtue, contrasted against a demonized scapegoating of “society” as guilty of tolerating homophobic and misogynistic victimization. The implicit messages are obvious:

“Expunge your guilt! Help the oppressed! Vote Democrat!”

Yet when anyone attempts to criticize this propaganda (or the policy agenda that the propaganda campaign is intended to advance), this media criticism is then twisted by liberal activists into “evidence” of homophobia and misogyny, thus to smear and delegitimize anyone who calls attention to the dishonesty of the propaganda.

So, when we encounter facts that do not conform to the propaganda narrative of liberal media’s dishonest activism, critics highlight aspects of the story that contradict the Potemkin village portrayal.

Are women and homosexuals victimized by “society”? Here is a story about lesbians who are not victims of abuse, but rather perpetrators of abuse, and it is important in the same way that a university “hate” hoax is important, namely in balancing the otherwise deliberately unbalanced media narrative.

Critics of liberal media bias know what we are doing, although we seldom bother to explain what we’re doing and why. Regular readers of this blog are presumed to be intelligent and informed enough to understand this, but an actual majority of Americans are too ignorant or stupid to recognize what’s actually happening: 65 million (51%) voted to re-elect Obama, a margin of victory that depended in substantial measure on the media’s purposeful promotion of “War on Women” propaganda — Obama won women voters by a 55%-44% margin — and Obama’s gay landslide. The 95% of voters who are heterosexual split evenly between Democrats and Republicans in 2012, according to exit polls, but Obama won gay voters by a nearly 4-to-1 margin, perhaps because they had become convinced by media propaganda that a vote for Mitt Romney was a vote for Taliban-style oppression.

If you are one of the thick-headed ignoramuses who can’t understand this, why? Because you haven’t paid attention, you idiots.

Go purchase and read The Vision of the Anointed: Self-Congratulation as a Basis for Social Policy, by Thomas Sowell (1995). Unless and until you have done this, you are an ignorant fool with no standing to criticize conservatives as “haters.” If you are willing to learn the truth, however, permit me to call attention to Chapter 5 (“The Anointed versus the Benighted”) and Chapter 6 (“Crusades of the Anointed”), in which Sowell details the prejudicial selection of “targets” and “mascots.”

 

 

If you are reflexively sympathetic to “the homeless” and reflexively hostile to religion and the traditional family, but have never wondered why you have these prejudices, you obviously haven’t read The Vision of the Anointed, you ignorant fool.

The headline on the Atlantic column is intriguing:

Black Pathology and the Closing of the Progressive Mind

It’s one of those intra-liberal feuds about something “controversial” Paul Ryan said 10 days ago, which of course was controversial only because Paul Ryan is a prominent Republican. But the feud among liberals is actually rather interesting in its own right, with one group of effete pointy-headed do-gooders squabbling with another group of subversive America-hating intellectuals. All of them agree that Paul Ryan is a dangerous right-wing reactionary, of course, but they disagree on the correct way to hate Paul Ryan.

Anyway, it’s possible Ta-Nehisi Coates had something important to say about all this, except I never got past the first sentence:

“Among opinion writers, Jonathan Chait is outranked
in my esteem only by Hendrik Hertzberg.”

Rick Fucking Hertzberg? Are you fucking kidding me?

Look, man, I have no great love for Jonathan Chait who, like all liberals, is reliably wrong about almost everything. But if his ideas are all wrong, at least Chait’s writing is usually somewhat lively.

The same cannot be said for Hendrik Hertzberg, who has been boring readers into a helpless stupor for three decades. When a writer’s most notable accomplishment is co-authoring Jimmy Carter’s infamous “malaise” speech, it’s best to avoid praising him.

It’s like a musician saying Barry Manilow is their personal role model — evidence of bad taste and poor judgment.

Anyway, for you young folks, let this be a lesson: Whatever you do, never start a column by brown-nosing Rick Hertzberg, because nobody will bother to read anything you write after that.

Fake Hate Scandal: ‘University Policy’ Protects Racist Hoax Perpetrator

A student at Michigan’s Grand Valley State University — apparently a black female — decided to “celebrate” Black History Month by writing racial slurs on her own dorm-room door. This led to the predictable recriminations, with an “emergency meeting” on campus “hosted . . . by the university’s chapter of the NAACP.”

These hate hoaxes have become a routine fixture of American collegiate life and, as soon as such an “incident” is reported, experienced campus observers know it’s just a matter of days or weeks until the self-inflicted fakery is exposed. Regular readers will recall, for example, how feminist Meg Lanker set off an uproar at the University of Wyoming by threatening to “hate-f**k” herself.

Now, Grand Valley State University is engaged in an official cover-up to conceal the identity of their campus hate-hoaxer:

Statement from Grand Valley Police
Department Chief Renee Freeman:
The Grand Valley State University Police Department has concluded a thorough investigation of the Racial Bias incident reported on February 17, 2014. The person believed to be responsible for the drawing and language written on the dry erase board is a Grand Valley student and the owner of the message board.
The incident has had a disruptive impact on the community and as a result, the student has been referred to the Dean of Students for a student code violation. University policy does not permit the release of his/her name.

Ri-iiight. If the racial “incident” had been authentic, the perpetrator probably would have been facing a federal hate-crimes charge, but faking a hate crime? That’s merely “disruptive,” a “student code violation” to be handled by the Dean of Students, and we can’t be told who the hoaxer was because of “university policy.”

What a dishonest farce.
