‘A Genius in France,’ IYKWIMAITYD

Posted on | February 2, 2014 | 23 Comments

When the rape case against Roman Polanski made headlines a few years ago, the film director’s defenders commonly made the argument that he shouldn’t be judged by his crime because, after all, he was considered a genius in France. As a euphemistic synonym for “celebrity pervert,” A Genius in France applies equally to Woody Allen:

Allen’s defenders correctly note that he denies the allegations, has never been convicted and should be presumed innocent. People weighed in on all sides, but one person who hasn’t been heard out is Dylan Farrow, 28, the writer and artist whom Allen was accused of molesting. . . .
Dylan writes:

That he got away with what he did to me haunted me as I grew up. I was stricken with guilt that I had allowed him to be near other little girls. I was terrified of being touched by men. I developed an eating disorder. I began cutting myself.
That torment was made worse by Hollywood. All but a precious few (my heroes) turned a blind eye. Most found it easier to accept the ambiguity, to say, “who can say what happened,” to pretend that nothing was wrong.

Nicholas Kristof should be careful. He might get sued for defamation by A Genius in France. Lot of that going around, y’know.

The Pervert Rights Movement

Posted on | February 2, 2014 | 87 Comments

In the 21st century, the rights of decent law-abiding citizens must always yield to the rights of freaks and weirdos.

That’s the lesson in the Chicago suburb of Orland Park, Illinois, where the local public library considers it their duty to provide perverts access to Internet pornography at taxpayer expense. There have been reports of degenerates masturbating in the library and using the library’s computers to access child pornography.

You might think that Orland Park is committed to the First Amendment, but when it comes to the right of citizens to peaceably assemble and petition their government for a redress of grievances? Eh, not so much. Orland Park mom Megan Fox explains:

The most recent board meeting at the Orland Park Public Library was an illustration of tyrannical government in action. . . .
The public embarrassment and citizen outcry has not made one iota of difference to the hardcore leftists on the board. Their commitment to porn and the American Library Association’s insistence that [pornography] is protected in a public space (even when paid for by unwilling taxpayers) is unwavering.
I have spoken at five board meetings along with other members of the community. Each time the topic was the same. “Put filters on the computers.” . . . But at the last meeting . . . the board decided they had heard enough about the porn problem at their library. They arbitrarily decided we are no longer able to speak about anything relating to “computers” or “sexual misconduct” in their library. Keep in mind, these are the “free speech” people. . . .

(No, they’re free porn people.)

They bluster that those of us who don’t want porn in public libraries are trying to censor adults from hardcore porn or “information” in their words, but they have no problem actually stopping citizens and taxpayers from speaking to them!

Read the whole thing at PJ Media. Orland Park’s idiotic policy has nothing to do with the First Amendment. Nobody is threatening the right of porn producers to “publish” their material, nor is any individual’s right to view such products at risk. Freaks can buy their own computers — hey, Amazon sells lots of computers for under $400 — and surf the ‘Net in the privacy of their own homes public housing homeless shelters basement rape dungeons.

The question is whether taxpayers are obligated to provide free access to such material in a public space.

No sane person would answer that question “yes,” but no sane person is a member of the Orland Park Library Board, which evidently has been captured by the Pervert Rights Movement.

#IStandWithDana Gun-Control Freaks Try to Bounce @DLoesch from ‘The View’

Posted on | February 2, 2014 | 51 Comments

Demonizing and marginalizing dissent is what liberals do routinely. They pick an issue — from atomic energy to abortion, from global warming to gay marriage — and declare that people who disagree with them are dangerous ignorant extremists.

So now a gun-control group called Moms Demand Action is trying to give Dana Loesch the “extremist” treatment. Dana has volunteered to go into the lion’s den — appearing as the sole pro-Second Amendment voice on ABC’s The View — and these liberals evidently consider it intolerable that anyone in favor of the right to keep and bear arms should appear on a major broadcast network program.

Panic reaction at Media Matters: “The decision to give Loesch a national platform on a highly-rated television show is troubling . . .”

Translation: “OMG! An outspoken conservative woman on national TV! This cannot be permitted! No dissent allowed!”

This reaction exposes the truth about liberal media bias. If they were interested in a debate, and if Dana Loesch were really so ignorant as they claim, having her on national TV would be a good idea for them, because the ignorant Dana would be easily defeated. But instead, because liberal arguments cannot withstand scrutiny — because Dana is a well-informed and articulate proponent of Second Amendment rights — they can only “win” by silencing her.

Controlling access to the “national platform,” so only liberal voices can be heard in the “mainstream,” is the name of the game for the crypto-totalitarian propagandists of the Left.

My Brother Shut Down Atlanta?

Posted on | February 1, 2014 | 63 Comments

Cosmic fate: My brother Kirby was trapped on I-285 during the big weather-induced disaster in Atlanta.

He had to get his driver’s license renewed, which required him to go to the Department of Vital Records — on the east side of town near Buford Highway — to get a copy of his birth certificate. He left on his way back to Douglasville about 12:40 p.m. Tuesday, deciding to take surface streets in an effort to avoid gridlock on the expressways.

It took him nine hours to travel less than 20 miles — via Moores Mill Road and Atlanta Road — to reach the RaceTrac gas station at the intersection of South Cobb Drive and East-West Connector in Smyrna. The scene inside the convenience store was like a refugee camp. Stranded motorists were sleeping on the floor.

After gassing up, buying a sandwich and beverages, Kirby made the fateful decision to heed the advice on the radio: Take the interstate, because they’ll get those cleared before they get to the byways. Going south on I-285, he reached the Chattahoochee River bridge before traffic completely gridlocked.

“We didn’t move an inch from midnight until 7 o’clock the next morning,” he said, and once traffic did start moving, it took him more than five hours to make it the rest of the way home.

So it’s Kirby’s fault.

Fate conspired to subject him to this Herculean ordeal, and all the other people who got trapped in that icy mess were just collateral damage, so far as Fate was concerned.

And I tell that story because some idiot has written an article — at Slate, where else? — blaming the Atlanta Ice Jam of 2014 on racism.

Racism! Of course, that explains everything!

Racism is the Swiss Army Knife of explanations, the duct tape of social science. If you ever encounter a problem that seems to have no obvious explanation — boom! — racism explains it.

Is #FreeBleeding a Hoax?
UPDATE: Hoax Came From 4chan

Posted on | February 1, 2014 | 44 Comments

Old newsroom saying: “If your mother says she loves you, check it out.” So when Brandon Morse, Kim Jossfolk and others called attention to the #FreeBleeding hashtag yesterday, my skepticism was aroused. Not even feminists can be this crazy, can they?

The first thing I discovered was that the accounts most involved in this — @Roaring_Womyn and @dontjudgme3333 — were recently created and had few followers. In other words, these weren’t long-term Twitter users, which is your first clue that they’re trolls. Next, tracing the #FreeBleeding hashtag to its earliest use, I discovered an October 2011 “Funny or Die” video.

Those are fairly strong indications of a hoax. The term “free bleeding” refers to a real phenomenon, discussed here by a vendor of environmental-friendly menstrual products, and here in a 2004 post at the “All About My Vagina” site. However, there is no indication that this “Tampons-Are-Male-Oppression” message had any organic existence prior to the suspicious appearance of @Roaring_Womyn and @dontjudgme3333, and so it’s obviously some kind of hoax.

The real question: Whose hoax is it? Two alternative theories:

  1. Conservative hoax — Seeking to exploit the irrationality and credulity of the Women’s Studies/Gender Theory crowd, conservatives create this #FreeBleeding nonsense in the expectation that feminist ideologues will pick it up and run with it. Once it becomes the subject of a lunatic essay at Feministing, the hoax is revealed: “Ha ha ha! Stupid feminists!”
  2. Liberal hoax — Trying to score another “War on Women” victory, liberals create an offensive message, hoping to elicit misogynist comments from right-wingers. If they can get a reaction from Erick Erickson — or better yet, a Twitchy thread — then the hoaxers reveal the truth: “Ha ha ha! Stupid wingnuts!”

In exposing the hoax now, I understand the risk of accidentally busting an attempted O’Keefean sting by “our” side, but the danger that this could be a liberal hoax — and that my friends might be sucked into it and embarrassed — was sufficient to outweigh that risk. So if it turns out that @Roaring_Womyn and @dontjudgme3333 were actually my friends (is that you, Iowahawk?), I’m sorry. Better luck next time.

UPDATE: My skeptical hunch was correct. Daily Dot explains that the “Operation FreeBleeding” hoax began on the 4chan boards.

UPDATE II: Welcome, Instapundit readers!

Exhibit B: Among ‘Scores of Death Threats’ Alleged by Brett Kimberlin …

Posted on | January 31, 2014 | 28 Comments

Earlier today, I took notice of false allegations Brett Kimberlin made against me in filing for an injunction in the million-dollar Maryland lawsuit Kimberlin v. Walker, et al. Just to further illustrate the manifest absurdities the defendants must deal with, here is another sentence from that same filing:

This claim follows Kimberlin’s bizarre assertion that a disclaimer on Aaron Walker’s blog is understood by “his readers … as code to take … vigilante action.” Kimberlin refers the court to “Exhibit B,” among which alleged “death threats” we find this:

That’s a screen-cap from the blog Charlie Foxtrot, but does the man in the photo wielding the enormous rifle look familiar?

It’s University of Tennessee Law Professor Glenn Harlan Reynolds.

Kimberlin tried the same thing in June 2012, using Professor Reynolds as “Exhibit E” in a motion he filed against Walker, at a time when Walker was forbidden to blog about Kimberlin by a court order (which was subsequently overturned). It’s encouraging to see that Instapundit has moved up from “Exhibit E” to “Exhibit B,” and with some luck, he may eventually make it to “Exhibit A.”

But really, you’re nobody in the blogosphere until you’re a defendant . . .

We Need Cassone To Rock @CPACnews

by Smitty

We need Chris Cassone to play this in the main ballroom at CPAC in front of a the full house (including YOU!) somewhere on March 6th or 7th:
I just got off the phone with Chris, and he’s at the point of deciding if he’s going to attend at all. Apparently he brought the mighty Victoria Jackson two years ago and was maybe underwhelmed by the time slot he was afforded.

Thus, we need a two-pronged strategy. We need:

  • Everyone to gently hammer @CPACNews on Twitter and politely flog them with a feather to call attention to Cassone’s sublime coolness, and the need to give him a quality time slot ahead of a real hitter. Should they consider just ahead of Ted Cruz? Why, yes; yes, they should.
  • Everyone to buy a copy of his fine, rocking product, so that he can defray his travel costs:

Why do I love Cassone? Well, it’s not every artist who takes an email of lyrics from deployed military members and returns a submlime slab o’ blues:

And look at the results:
