Thanks to the Reader Who Bought the $199 Rockwell Sonicrafter Kit via Amazon

Posted on | October 1, 2012 | 2 Comments

One of the amazing things about the Amazon Associates program is, I keep getting commissions on sales of stuff I didn’t even know Amazon sold. I’d never even heard of the “Rockwell RK5108K SoniCrafter 100-Piece Super Professional Kit” that one of our readers bought last month through an Amazon link here, but I’m sure glad you bought it — at the special low price of $131.99 — because that sale provided me a $9.24 commission.

Blood glucose test strips? Never knew you could buy those at Amazon. A 5-piece home theatre sound system? Wow! They sell all kinds of stuff at Amazon, and most orders over $25 qualify for free shipping.

We’re just a couple of months away from the Christmas shopping season, and Amazon has all kinds of bargains every day, so you can shop any time you want via our links and each sale kicks a small commission to me (at no cost to you) to help support the blog.

Federal Law? What Federal Law?

Posted on | October 1, 2012 | 27 Comments

Ace gave this the Flaming Skull™ and pinned it to the top of his blog: There is a federal law that requires employers to give advance notice of layoffs. Because of Obama’s massive deficits, defense contractors will have to lay off tens of thousands of employees.

Obama convinced Lockheed Martin to delay the layoff notification until after the election. Don’t like it? You’re a racist!

(Trying to get me one of those Elspeth Reeve gigs at the Atlantic.)

Last week, one of my tip-jar hitters informed me that he was one of the 575 people to be laid off when Sikorsky shut down its Black Hawk helicopter plant in New York State. When the Obama deficits start hurting my tip-jar hitters, I get angry.

UPDATE: Gabriel Malor at New York Daily News:

In case you missed it over the weekend, the Obama administration’s Friday afternoon document drop was a memo from the Department of Labor telling defense contractors not to provide legally-required notice to thousands of employees that they are about to be laid off, if automatic spending cuts agreed to by the President and the Congress take effect.
Translation: President Obama wants to prevent thousands of employees, especially in swing-state Virginia, from being told that they are going to be laid off due to Department of Defense funding cuts. Because of the timing of the cuts, those notices would have been sent to employees just prior to the election in November. The man who signed those funding cuts into law would like to avoid that.

It’s worth noting that blog sidekick Smitty works for a defense contractor. Are they going to lay Smitty off? We don’t know.

Because, hey, who cares about a freakin’ federal law, when following it might hurt Obama’s re-election chances?

UPDATE II: Yeah, let’s add this:

Update III (Smitty): welcome, Instapundit readers! While you’re here, check out Ambassador John Bolton’s recap of the Obama Administration’s foreign policy debacle, recorded Monday, 01 October 2012.

Disgraced Hack Elspeth Reeve Decides to Double Down on ‘RAAAAACISM’!

Posted on | October 1, 2012 | 17 Comments

You will recall the O-Phone video: Woman says she’s voting for Obama because he gave her a free cellphone.

Elspeth Reeve of the Atlantic has decided it’s racist! racist! racist! to laugh at that video because . . . uh, racism.

Now the World’s Least Reliable Fact-Checker™ has checked her facts again and decided Patterico is the worst racist of them all.

Dubious integrity, a paucity of talent, an utter lack of humor — liberals can overcome all of these handicaps to a journalism career, as long as they can scream “racism” loud enough.

Democrat Sluts Can’t Do Math

Posted on | October 1, 2012 | 17 Comments

The image above is one of the “e-Cards” available at BarackObama.com that offers a phony statistical argument for ObamaCare:

Dear Mom,
Mitt Romney says he would repeal the Affordable Care Act.
So here’s a quick question:
Can I borrow $18,000 to help pay for my birth control?
Thanks!

Whoa! $18,000 for birth control? If that number sounds strangely large to you, join the club. Conservative college student Christine Rousselle does the math, based on the simple fact that there are 14,600 days between the ages of 12 and 52:

Because our letter-writer has been reduced to asking her mom for money, we’re going to assume that she’s not very well off and she’s a bargain hunter. On Amazon.com, one can purchase a fishbowl filled with a variety pack of 144 Durex brand condoms for $25.89. Assuming she’d use one condom per day every single day between the ages of 12 and 52, that only equals $2,624.96 for 14,600 Durex condoms. For those of you who aren’t great at math, $2,624.96 is far less than $18,000. She’d have to be using around four or five condoms a day for 40 years for that number to even approach $18,000.
Suppose our cash-strapped friend prefers to use the birth control pill instead of condoms. In 41 states, she can get the pill for $9 a month at a Target or Walmart. That totals $108 per year, and $108 multiplied by 40 is $4,320, which still winds up less than $18,000. In the nine other states, the cost per month is around $30, which reaches around $14,400 over 40 years. These figures assume that our letter-writer plans on using birth control pills over the full length of time that she is able to get pregnant.

Using birth control every single day for 40 years, a slut’s total cost is still not $18,000 in a lifetime. So even if she’s putting out like a Pez dispenser — and, after all, she’s a Democrat, IYKWIMAITYD — she’ll have plenty of cash left over for vodka and Newports.

Another conservative student, Inez Feltscher, explains that to reach the $18,000 number, the Democrat propagandists assume that a woman will need “high risk AIDS testing”:

So the moral of the story: If you’re a slut who can’t do math — and you’re dumb enough to date Bill Maher — vote Obama!

Update (Smitty): glad I made it home to figure out what Blutarsky was on about. I’m looking at the Twitter client on the ‘droid phone and just rolling with whatever arrives:

Another Shocking Republican Scandal! ‘Redneck Romeo’ Jason Aldean Goes Wild

Posted on | October 1, 2012 | 7 Comments

While we were at Mitt Romney’s rally in Toledo last week, I remarked to Ali Akbar that the warm-up music for the Republican’s events includes some country-rock songs that aren’t quite what you’d usually associate with GOP family values, for example Luke Bryan’s “Country Girl (Shake It for Me)“:

Get up on the hood of my daddy’s tractor,
Up on the toolbox it don’t matter,
Down on the tailgate, girl, I can’t wait
To watch you do your thing.
Shake it for the young bucks sittin’ in the honky-tonks,
For the rednecks rockin’ ’till the break of dawn
For the DJ spinning that country song
C’mon c’mon c’mon . . .

Well, not that there’s anything wrong with that, but it’s just slightly incongruous to hear it while nice Republican folks are assembling for a presidential campaign event.

Another of the country rock tunes on the Romney warm-up soundtrack is Jason Aldean’s “My Kinda Party“:

Oh baby, you can find me
In the back of a jacked up tailgate,
Sittin’ ’round watchin’ all these pretty things
Get down in that Georgia clay.
And I’ll find peace
In the bottom of a real tall cold drink,
Chillin’ with some Skynyrd and some old Hank.
Let’s get this thing started.
It’s my kind of party.

Again — not that there’s anything wrong with that. It’s upbeat downhome music, and if it helps get the good old boys fired up, great. But the media loves to make wild guilt-by-association charges and you’ve got to be careful. Today, while I was looking at updates for the story about the GOP staffer partying down with Lindsay Lohan (the staffer once had his photo taken with Paul Ryan), I saw another story about a shocking celebrity scandal:

Country music superstar Jason Aldean says his very open public display of affection with a former “American Idol” contestant — who is NOT his wife — was a huge, drunken mistake.
Jason released a statement today, apologizing for his indiscretion, after TMZ posted pictures early this morning of the country singer and “A.I.” castoff Brittany Kerr getting up close and personal — hugging, touching, and flirting at a very popular, crowded bar on the Sunset Strip.
Jason — who has been married since 2001 — says, “The truth is that I screwed up. I had too much to drink, let the party get out of hand and acted inappropriately at a bar.”
He says, “I ultimately ended up embarrassing my family and myself.” And then adds, “I left alone and that’s the end of the story.”

See there? One of these hillbilly yodelers gets rowdy and starts making out with some floozy in a bar, and next thing you know, BuzzFeed and Politico will be all over it, demanding that the Romney campaign comment on the incident. On the other hand, I’m pretty sure Mitt would get a 2-point bump in the Ohio polls if he began his next speech by saying, “You can find me in the back of a jacked-up tailgate . . .”

Ad Slams Obama on National Security

Headline at the Daily Caller:

White House shifts spin on Benghazi assassination,
downplays focus on anti-Islam video

Here’s a good poll question: How stupid do they think we are?

Obama Solves Mexican Hunger Crisis

Posted on | October 1, 2012 | 4 Comments

How do you say “food stamps” in Spanish?

Department of Agriculture personnel in the Obama administration have met with Mexican Government officials dozens of times since the president took office to promote nutrition assistance programs — notably food stamps — among Mexican Americans, Mexican nationals and migrant communities in America. . . .
“The Mexico-U.S. Partnership for Nutrition Assistance Initiative is just one of a wide range of USDA partnership activities intended to promote awareness of nutrition assistance among those who need benefits and meet all program requirements under current law.” Vilsack wrote to Sessions in a letter obtained by The Daily Caller.
Since the partnership began, Vilsack wrote, USDA personnel have met at least 151 times with officials from the Mexican government “to discuss nutrition assistance programs as well as to provide program updates.” Those instances included 91 meetings with embassy and consulate staff in 25 U.S. cities; 29 health fairs in 19 U.S. cities; and 31 roundtable discussions, conferences and forums in 20 U.S.

They’re using Spanish-language soap operas to promote it:

This is one of those “Solving Problems We Didn’t Know We Had” issues that liberals are so good at: Not enough Mexicans on food stamps!

Is The DNC Raaaaacist for Saying That a Black Man Can’t Win a Debate?

Posted on | October 1, 2012 | 8 Comments

by Smitty

Bluegrass Pundit points to the NY Post quoting Brad Woodhouse engaging in a little soft bigotry of low expectations:

It’s a further lowering of expectations ahead of the first debate in Denver next week. Democratic National Committee spokesman Brad Woodhouse tells Fox News he thinks Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney will win.
Woodhouse says the way the DNC sees it, challengers win the first debate when they are up against incumbents.
“Mitt Romney has had a lot more time to debate, the president has not debated in the past four years in terms, of a campaign debate. I think the president will hold his own, but he’s not known for sound bites. And these are 60 second, 90 second responses.”

Not known for a bites. Probably because he didn’t build that.

Seriously, Brad: get stuffed. The American people have had three and a half years of Barack “Spock” drivel crammed in an uncomfortable location. The guy can stand and deliver. If he’s so purportedly smart, let him dazzle us with brains.

This notion that a black man somehow ain’t packin’ the gear in a debate after 3.5 years on the job as President is the saddest sort of raaaaacism.
