Bill Clinton Triggers Boston Requirement

Clinton in The Hill, emphasis mine:

Former President Bill Clinton said Sunday that the Tea Party movement “reflects the feeling of a lot of Americans that they’re getting the shaft,” but isn’t clear what it stands for.

We closed our eyes this past century, and liberty has slipped away. Getting the shaft? It’s more than a feeling.

It’s A Good Start, But Where Is The Feedback Loop?

Marianne Moran’s article in the Richmond Times-Dispatch concerns an Amendment to give States repeal power over Federal legislation:

We need an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that will allow the repeal of any act of Congress or regulation when two-thirds of the states agree to the repeal.

Insufficient, say I, and for this reason: $.
So long as the Federal government has eminent domain over the individual wallet (Amendment 16), and the States as such lack a voice in the Federal government (Amendment 17), and the Congress has a Cosmic Credit Card (The Federal Reserve), then the notion of permitting State repeals is lipstick on a pig in a deck chair on a sinking cruise ship.
Has anyone noticed that the 16th & 17th Amendments and the Federal Reserve Act all came about in 1913, to the funky beats of Fascist Woodrow and the Progressives?
This State repeal concept is a worthy idea, but I hope that the Tea Party movement will go hard or go home: this blog formally dares any 2012 Presidential candidate to go hard or go home. Campaign on repealing 16th & 17th Amendments and the Federal Reserve Act, commensurate with their centennial.
Then you can break the cycle of economic abuse that has made unethical deficit spending a commonplace activity, dependence on Federal bread and circuses a standard procedure, and an unfathomable debt the issue none dare address except Paul Ryan.
The current open-loop system does nothing but drive the cycle misattributed to Tytler, and ends in slavery.
At the risk of sounding discouraging, this notion of State repeal will likely not avail much.

Democrat Chris Coons Turns Down Delaware Tea Party Group Debate

Posted on | September 20, 2010 | 29 Comments

The First State Patriots, a major 9/12 group in Delaware, will be hosting a candidate forum tonight:

Our next meeting will be on Monday, September 20th at 6:30 p.m. at the Frog Hollow Golf Clubhouse in Middletown, DE. This month’s featured panel will be those candidates that successfully win their primaries on September 14th for national office.

Christine O’Donnell has accepted the invitation to appear at the First State Patriots event, while Democrat Chris Coons turned them down.

Remember that in their first debate Thursday — just two days after the primary, while Karl Rove was busy telling the world that O’Donnell wasn’t qualified to bring him a cup of coffee — the supposedly unqualified Republican candidate held her own against Coons:

The forum was an early test for O’Donnell, who . . . has never endured anything close to the national media storm that has descended upon her since she defeated Castle on Tuesday.
At times the pressure showed, but O’Donnell appeared to hold her own Thursday despite the intense glare. She repeatedly emphasized her concerns over the growth of government and stressed “private-sector solutions” on a range of questions.

That debate was at the Jewish Community Center in Wilmington — home turf for the Democrat — and he has so far turned down every other opportunity to debate until an Oct. 6 event sponsored by the Wilmington News-Journal.

As Byron York pointed out Friday, as executive of New Castle County, Coons raised property taxes three times in four years — he never met a tax he wouldn’t increase!

Tell me again why O’Donnell can’t beat this bald-headed tax-raising Democrat even worse than she beat the septuagenarian RINO all the “experts” said she couldn’t beat.

As of 3 a.m. O’Donnell’s $2 million fund-raising drive had hauled in $1,879,486.36.

And if you want me to cover Christine O’Donnell at that Tea Party event in Delaware tonight — a 282-mile round trip — please hit the tip jar.

Ready for Some Class Warfare?

Instapundit links to Jim Hoft talking about this New York Times story:

President Obama’s political advisers, looking for ways to help Democrats and alter the course of the midterm elections in the final weeks, are considering a national advertising campaign that would cast the Republican Party as all but taken over by Tea Party extremists, people involved in the discussion said.

In fact, as I reported Sunday — also at The American Spectator — Howard Dean’s Democracy For American is already using the “extremist Teabagger” attack.

If Democrats were smart, they’d ignore that kind of advice. Polls have shown that the Tea Party is more popular than Obama and if there is one thing the American people have gotten sick and tired of hearing in the past 18 months, it’s that anyone who disagrees with the president’s policies is a racist kook.

To quote Travis Tritt: “The Whiskey Ain’t Workin’ Anymore.”

Which is why I think, when push comes to shove, the Democrat attack in the fall campaign will be their bread-and-butter: Class warfare. Go back to the PA-12 special election, where Tim Burns got blistered with hundreds of thousands of dollars of DCCC class-warfare TV ads:

Democratic ads accused Burns of favoring tax cuts for companies that “ship jobs overseas” and, as nonsensical as the charge may seem — whoever proposed any such policy? — it evidently served its purpose of appealing to job-security fears among many blue-collar voters in this Rust Belt district.
This leads to what should be a profoundly disturbing thought for the Right: If Democrats can win elections by making these sorts of far-fetched class-warfare attacks against Republicans, have conservatives really won “the war of ideas”? Thirty years after Ronald Reagan’s election and the supposed victory of the supply-side revolution in economics, could it be that a majority of the electorate are now hostile toward the free market? . . .

Mark my words, going into these final six weeks, we’re going to see lots of endangered Democrats running ads accusing their GOP challengers of being sold out to corporate fat cats: “Tax cuts for the rich!”

Will it work? I don’t know. But there used to be a guy who knew how to fight back against that kind of stuff. I wish the Republican Party would put this video on every TV station in the country:

Professor Jacobson says “The Lombardi Rule” is in effect.

Six weeks to Nov. 2. Go out there and win one for the Gipper!

. . . of Astoundingly Stupid Things No Conservative Blogger in His Right Mind Would Ever Even Think About Doing:

  • Publish posts conflating “neocons” and “Jews” in such a way as to provoke accusations of anti-Semitism.
  • Respond to such accusations by publishing deranged rants against Jews.
  • Get into hateful public pissing matches with Ace of Spades and other cuddly ewoks who never harmed a fly, at least if the fly usually voted Republican.
  • Personally attack Michelle Malkin. (Dude. WTF?)
  • Push that kind of act to such outrageous extremes that one Sunday morning I’m finally confonted with Twitter messages like this:

‘Help Beat Those Racist Teabaggers!’ Says Democrat Spokesman Arshad Hasan

Robert –

Have you watched cable news lately? The Tea Baggers are everywhere!

The Tea Party is news because they’ve won a few upset primaries — but let’s be honest — that’s not the only reason they’re getting wall-to-wall coverage. Honestly, that weirdly racist tinge makes for good TV. Bizarre, wide-eyed accusations of the President and hilariously misspelled signs demanding an English-only country will drive up news ratings. I don’t mind, though. People should know about these extremists.

But the best-kept secret of 2010 is that progressives have won primaries up and down the ballot all across the country — way more than Tea Party. That’s right — Progressive challengers have beat out fabled “Mama Grizzlies” in state after state.

Just this week, progressive champion Ann McLane Kuster won a landslide victory in New Hampshire. Earlier this year, progressives won big upset victories in Pennsylvania with Joe Sestak, in North Carolina with Elaine Marshall and in Kentucky with Jack Conway — and that’s just in U.S. Senate races.

But DFA doesn’t just support Senate candidates. We support progressives up and down the ballot in all 50 states. In fact, 67 percent of all DFA-endorsed candidates won their primaries this year. 67 percent! That’s a great record and we couldn’t do it without you. We depend on small contributions from DFA members to make it happen.

Contribute $10 right now and keep beating the Tea Party this November.

With the 2010 Democratic primaries over, just take a look at the work we did together this season:

•43 primary endorsements
•15 federal
•28 non-federal
•67.4 percent of endorsed candidates won their primaries
•60 percent of federal candidates won
•71.4 percent of non-federal candidates won
We didn’t just endorse candidates who we were sure-things or had big names, either. We endorsed local candidates like Toni Preckwinkle in Chicago. She was a reformer running against a corrupt incumbent for Cook County Board President. It was a tough fight, but she ran a grassroots campaign and scored a landslide win in the primary.

We endorsed winning candidates in tough primaries in Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Montana, Nevada and a whole lot of other states. That’s the DFA strategy at work — electing progressive in primaries across the country to take our country back with people-powered campaigns.

The DFA Strategy worked for progressives in the primaries — Contribute $10 now to finish the job in November.

Can’t get enough? Here’s a few more numbers from 2010 primaries. We endorsed four U.S. Senate candidates, 11 U.S. House candidates, three gubernatorial candidates, four candidates running for other statewide office, 16 candidates for State House or State Senate, and five candidates for county or municipal offices — across 24 states.

That’s 43 candidates total — 29 wins — and we couldn’t done it without you.

Now that the primary season is over, all the focus is on winning in November and finishing the job. We must defeat Tea Party Republicans everywhere and we can’t do it without your support.

Contribute $10 today and beat the Tea Baggers in November.

Come November 3, the only reason the Tea Party should be on TV is for losing a lot of elections.

Working together, we’re going to make that happen. Thanks you for everything you do to move America forward.

Thanks for the e-mail, Arshad, but I can’t give you $10 today — I just gave $20 to Christine O’Donnell.
