‘Mac Jones Can’t Throw Deep’?
Posted on | November 27, 2021 | Comments Off on ‘Mac Jones Can’t Throw Deep’?
Fox Sports host Colin Cowherd posted a video rebutting the frequently heard criticism that Mac Jones lacks arm strength. Because of NFL policy, I can’t embed that video here, but you can click the link and watch five minutes of Jones’s NFL highlights so far his rookie year. What infuriates me about this “weak arm” nonsense is that, as an Alabama fan, I watched Mac Jone repeatedly hit long passes on the way to an undefeated season and the national championship. Watch the highlights from the SEC title game against Florida:
Jones completed 33 of 43 passes (76.7%) for 418 yards and five touchdowns in that game. Watch his 31-yard touchdown pass to Devonta Smith here and tell me Jones has a “weak arm” — it’s absurd. If you’re not yet convinced, watch these highlights of Mac Jones in the national championship game against Ohio State:
Mack Jones completed 36 of 45 passes (80%) for 464 yards and five touchdowns against Ohio State. Can Mac throw deep? Watch this pass from his own 25 where he hits Devonta Smith at the Ohio State 47.
Now that the Patriots are 7-4, riding a five-game winning streak — with Mac Jones far and away this year’s best rookie quarterback in the NFL — he is under a microscope of media attention. Much of the credit for New England’s turnaround after a 2-4 start goes to the Patriots’ defense, and there are still analysts who express doubt whether Jones has what it takes to be a truly great pro quarterback. He will have the opportunity to silence those critics during the next four games, when the Patriots play the 8-3 Tennessee Titans on Sunday, followed by a Dec. 6 Monday night road game against the 7-4 Buffalo Bills, followed by a bye week before a Dec. 18 game at the 6-5 Indianapolis Colts, and then a Dec. 26 home game with Buffalo. It is entirely possible that the Patriots could win all four of those games, and Mac Jones will have plenty of chances to prove his critics wrong. Make it happen, Mac. Roll Tide!
Darrell Brooks: Menace to Society
Posted on | November 27, 2021 | Comments Off on Darrell Brooks: Menace to Society
We are learning more about the perpetrator of the Waukesha massacre, including his arrest for battery in Fulton County, Georgia:
Police say the man accused of plowing into a Christmas parade in Wisconsin and killing six people was arrested in Union City earlier this year.
Police say Darrell E. Brooks, 39, drove his SUV through a parade in Waukesha last weekend. Five adults and an 8-year-old boy were killed and at least 60 other people were injured.
Brooks has been charged with five counts of intentional homicide, and prosecutors are expected to file a sixth charge.
A witness told police he heard Brooks hitting his girlfriend through the wall. The witness said he confronted Brooks, who then called the police and claimed the witness was harassing the couple.
Police were able to determine that Brooks was the aggressor and that his girlfriend had injuries consistent with domestic abuse.
Brooks was taken to the East Point Jail. It’s unclear what happened to the case after that or if Brooks was convicted of anything.
The New York Post did a deep dive on Brooks that found “his life of crime started 22 years ago when he was just 17 years old.” Among other charges, “in July 2020, he fired a gun at his nephew during a fight over a cellphone,” and police “found Brooks with a stolen Beretta 9mm handgun and a clear plastic baggie with three multi-colored methamphetamine pills inside.” Considering that Brooks was already a convicted felon, prohibited from possessing a firearm, you might think this incident would have resulted in a long prison sentence. Instead, “he was released in February 2021 on a $500 bail,” which is when he went to Georgia and was busted for beating his girlfriend in a motel about 10 miles from the Atlanta airport. With charges pending in Georgia — where officials apparently didn’t realize Brooks was wanted in Nevada for violating terms of his release as a convicted sex offender — Brooks returned to Milwaukee, where he soon committed further violence:
Brooks allegedly accosted the woman and knocked her cellphone out of her hand and then went after her in his Ford Escape when she fled.
He caught up with her at a BP gas station about a half mile from the motel and demanded she get in his car, court records allege. When she refused, he struck her in the face and then ran her over with his car, leaving the woman with “swelling to her lip and dry blood on her face” and “tire tracks on her left pants leg,” police said.
The ex-girlfriend later told cops that Brooks had allegedly threatened to kill her on multiple occasions, had previously tried to choke her and was jealous and controlling, according to police reports obtained by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Brooks denied the allegations and suggested to police the woman made them up because she was drunk.
He ended up being charged with recklessly endangering safety, bail jumping, battery and disorderly conduct in the incident but was given an “inappropriately low” bail of $1,000, Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm later said, leaving him free to wreak havoc on the Christmas parade about three weeks later.
So here is the timeline:
- July 2020: Fires gun at nephew in Milwaukee.
- February 2021: Released on $500 bail.
- May 2021: Arrested for battery in Georgia.
- November 2, 2021: Runs over girlfriend in Milwaukee.
- November 19, 2021: Released on $1,000 bail.
On the day of his murderous rampage, Nov. 22, was again engaged in domestic violence, attacking an ex-girlfriend in Waukesha. She was seen “running away from him with a black eye just moments before the carnage unfolded.” Before police could respond to that attack, Brooks had fled the scene, and ignored officers who tried to stop him as he plowed through the parade route, killing six people and injuring dozens more.
As Glenn Reynolds observes, this is all a result of Democrat policies.

Thanksgiving in Georgia
Posted on | November 26, 2021 | Comments Off on Thanksgiving in Georgia
We spent Thursday on the road, down I-81 and then went through the Smoky Mountains on I-26 before heading south into north Georgia, near the site of America’s first gold rush, to spend the holiday weekend with all of our kids and grandchildren — that’s six kids, one son-in-law, three daughters-in-law, one girlfriend, and five grandchildren. That’s a total of 18 people, plus both of my brothers, a good-sized crowd of McCains.
While I was out on the road, the news kept happening:
- “Killadelphia” recorded its 500th homicide of the year.
- Dr. Allyson “Allyn” Walker, the transgender professor who wants to “destigmatize” pedophilia, announced she would be leaving her position at Virginia’s Old Dominion University.
- Officials in South Africa announced the discovery of a new “heavily mutated” variant of COVID-19, and British officials have prohibited flights from Southern Africa.
Violent death, sexual perversion, pandemic disease — the apocalypse keeps rolling along. And I’m in Georgia, enjoying a Thanksgiving feast.
We should be more grateful than we are for the blessings of a normal life, even if we are paying $1.20 more for a gallon of gas (#LetsGoBrandon).
It’s easier to complain about our misfortunes and disappointments — the Raiders beat the Cowboys and the Bills beat the Saints — than to be grateful that our lives are basically OK, in an age where it seems it’s becoming more difficult to be basically OK. My daughters just popped into the motel dining room where I’m working, then quickly departed to go do their Black Friday shopping. And I’m grateful they’re basically OK.
Our youngest daughter (Reagan) and youngest son (Emerson) are in college, while the next-youngest (Jefferson) is getting ready for law school next year (awaiting his LSAT scores). Emerson’s already married, as are our three oldest, all of whom are homeowners with kids of their own. All in all, our Victory Through Breeding™ agenda — the McCain Plan for Global Domination — seems to be working out.
Why aim for anything less that Global Domination? Sure, it could take a few generations before my descendants control the world — trust me, I’ve done the arithmetic — but as long as we keep this long-term goal in mind, our tasks in the short term become easier to understand.
The reason I bring this up, of course, is that the source of disappointment is the distance between expectation and reality. Even if our circumstances are objectively good — hey, we’re living the American Dream — we may feel disappointed because results fall short of our expectations, our hopes, our ambitions. The higher our expectations, the more likely we will be disappointed by the reality of our lives. It’s important to keep this in mind, attempting to view our lives objectively, no matter how high our ambitions may be. Considering that my ultimate goal is Global Domination — because why not? — it would be easy to get discouraged by short-term disappointments. For example, we haven’t had a new grandchild since Luca was born two years ago, which represents a lag in the Grandchild Production Quota. When you’re aiming at Global Domination, you tend to think of grandchildren with a statistical graph in mind, charting the output-per-unit calculations and so forth.
Objectively, you see, most people would think five grandkids to be a fine number, but the McCain Plan for Global Domination requires a perspective that evaluates this metric differently than “most people” (who, after all, are destined to be subjugated, according to the Plan).
All sarcasm aside, however, the point is that we have so much to be grateful for this Thanksgiving that any complaints would seem silly. Here I am, enjoying free coffee and free breakfast at the motel — with free Wifi even! — and certainly it would be churlish for me to complain.
“The truth is this: The march of Providence is so slow and our desires so impatient; the work of progress so immense and our means of aiding it so feeble; the life of humanity is so long, that of the individual so brief, that we often see only the ebb of the advancing wave and are thus discouraged. It is history that teaches us to hope.”
— Robert E. Lee
When one considers the hardships and misfortunes that our ancestors endured, how easy and fortunate our lives seem by comparison. We ought never to let discouragement prevent us from working toward a better future — and, of course, by “better,” I mean Global Domination.
Did I mention that everything is “free” at this motel because three nights cost us $500? As always, I would be grateful for readers who remember that the Five Most Important Words in the English Language are:
Thanks in advance. This Global Domination stuff ain’t cheap.

David Brooks Fisking Day Returns?
Posted on | November 25, 2021 | Comments Off on David Brooks Fisking Day Returns?
The basic problem with David Brooks is that he hasn’t been punched in the face as often as he deserves to be punched in the face.
Which is to say, repeatedly, on a daily basis.
On two occasions, I happened to be at conferences where David Brooks was a speaker, and in both instances, I walked out of the room, overcome by rage, struggling to resist an urge to rush the stage, grab hold of that swine and pummel him until the cops hauled me off to jail.
Really, what’s a simple assault charge in Washington, D.C.? The city is so overwhelmed with serious violent crime that I doubt I’d get more than probation and a fine for beating up David Brooks, besides which nobody actually likes him. If I went for a jury trial, pro se, I’m pretty sure I could convince twelve honest citizens that clobbering David Brooks should not be considered a crime. Hell, it’s a civic duty. Anyway . . .
This week, Brooks published — in The Atlantic, where else? — an article titled, “The Terrifying Future of the American Right.” What was so “terrifying” about the recent gathering of conservatives in Orlando about which Brooks wrote this lamentable article? Anyone can read his description of the event and try to find something “terrifying,” and good luck with that. What the people at the conference are guilty of, really, is not giving a damn what readers of The Atlantic think about them.
Misanthropic Humanitarian at AOSHQ has further thoughts on Brooks, but unfortunately, none of them involve punching Brooks in the face.
Repeatedly, as he deserves.
