Juneteenth: No Holiday for Murder

Posted on | June 21, 2021 | Comments Off on Juneteenth: No Holiday for Murder

The newly-official holiday of “Juneteenth” was celebrated in many communities with gunfire and mayhem:

  • OAKLAND, California — Oakland police say roughly 5,000 people were hanging out on Lakeshore Avenue when gunfire erupted Saturday evening. The mass shooting at Lake Merritt injured six people and killed a 22-year-old San Francisco man. Police arrested two men and recovered two guns. No motive has been determined and it is unclear if they were shooting at each other or shooting at another group. Many people at the crime scene said that, even though there wasn’t an official event in the 2200 block of Lakeshore Avenue, thousands of people went there to party and celebrate Juneteenth before the shooting occurred.
  • GRANGER, Indiana — One man was killed and four others injured in a shooting early Sunday morning at Heritage Square in Granger. The victim was identified by police as Victor Anthwan Kyle, Jr., 26. The other four people shot in the incident, at about 4 a.m., had non-life threatening injuries. A release by the St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit said a “very large crowd” had attended a party held in a bar at the shopping center. A release by the unit said “multiple weapons were discharged.” WSBT reported that the incident occurred in the parking lot of the Heavenly Goat Brewing Co. An event, the Juneteenth Summer Bash, was scheduled to run at Heritage Square from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m.
  • AURORA, Colorado — A man was killed and four other people wounded in a mass shooting in Aurora early Sunday morning, according to Aurora police. The shooting happened just after 4 a.m. in the parking lot of a strip mall at 12455 East Mississippi Ave. at a gathering that was “related to a Juneteenth celebration,” police said in a statement. Investigators believe multiple people opened fire — they had recovered 114 shell casings by midday Sunday. Police said the attack could be gang-related. No arrests have been made.
  • FLINT, Michigan — A 19-year old woman was fatally shot by a police officer near a Juneteenth parade in Michigan Saturday. Police say the woman drove up and opened fired on an officer working traffic at the celebration, and the officer returned fire, hitting the woman. She was taken to the hospital where she later died. Her identity has not been released at this time.
  • CLOVER, South Carolina — York County Sherriff’s Office said it’s investigating multiple shootings from a Juneteenth celebration that left multiple people injured. The shooting at a Juneteenth celebration occurred just before 11:30 p.m. near the intersection of Oakridge Road and Bellaire Circle, according to the Sherriff’s Office. The office said deputies responded to a call about multiple gunshot shots fired during a Juneteenth celebration. Deputies say they also responded to a road rage call with shots fired shortly before the shooting at the celebration near Regal Road and Oakridge Road. The Sherriff’s Office said the suspect pulled beside the victim and fired shots into the side of the car near Regal Road and Oakridge Road.
  • BATON ROUGE, Louisiana — The Baton Rouge Police Department is investigating after an early morning shooting left two people dead and at least four others hurt Saturday. According to Sgt. L’Jean McKneely Jr., the shooting happened in a parking lot located in the 7100 block of Florida Boulevard around 2:00 a.m June 19. Police say there was an argument between unidentified individuals as a group of partygoers began to leave a concert at a venue nearby. During the argument, multiple people began shooting, authorities say. A total of six victims were shot. Police say Kyren Walton, 25, and Ladarius Alexander, 20, died due to injuries sustained from gunfire.

That list may not be all-inclusive, but it gives you an idea of what seems to be going on every weekend in America now — large gatherings that end in gunfire over trivial disputes and, at risk of “perpetuating stereotypes,” I’ll wager that none of these shooters are Trump voters, IYKWIMAITYD.

Meanwhile, in Texas, arrests have been made in an earlier mass shooting:

A deadly weekend mass shooting in Austin’s famed entertainment district arose from a feud between two groups of Central Texas teenagers, according to a police affidavit filed Wednesday.
Harker Heights High School student Jeremiah Tabb, 17, was arrested at school Monday and remained in Travis County Jail on Wednesday. He is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony punishable by two to 20 years in prison.
Bond is set at $500,000, but a police spokesman said it was unclear if he had an attorney to speak on his behalf.
In the arrest affidavit filed by Austin police filed in a Travis County district court Wednesday, a wounded male juvenile is quoted as telling detectives at an Austin hospital that he was with friends on East Sixth Street, a famous entertainment strip, when they began exchanging stares with a youth he identified as JT and JT’s friends.
The male juvenile, who was not identified by name, said he had attended the same Killeen middle school as JT, who said to the juvenile’s group, “What y’all wanna do? Y’all wanna fight?” The juvenile said he answered, “It’s whatever,” at which point JT pulled a handgun from his waistband and opened fire. A companion of the juvenile, also a juvenile, drew his own gun and returned fire. One person was killed and more than a dozen others were wounded.
Police showed a yearbook photo of Tabb to the hospitalized juvenile, who identified him as the one who shot him. He told police that Tabb had already shot him in the leg in Killeen a few days earlier. Police in Killeen, 70 miles (113 kilometers) north of Austin, have a complaint on file from that shooting, according to the affidavit.

Why are groups of minors walking around downtown Austin after midnight? And why are these minors carrying pistols? Also, why are police looking the other way until such situations lead to murder?

This almost became Rule 5 Monday because I lost track of time playing Hearts Of Iron IV, but I got hungry, looked at my watch and realized to my surprise that it was almost 10:30 and I hadn’t eaten since 3. Anyway, today’s appetizer is Saber from Fate/Stay Night reimagined as John Wick by a fan artist.

Chicago: 5 Killed by ‘System Racism’ and Semi-Automatic Gunfire, But Mainly …

Posted on | June 20, 2021 | Comments Off on Chicago: 5 Killed by ‘System Racism’ and Semi-Automatic Gunfire, But Mainly …

. . . yeah, it was the semi-automatic gunfire:

A fifth victim has died Saturday following a mass shooting early Tuesday that left three others wounded in the Englewood neighborhood, officials said.
The person, of an unknown age and gender, was pronounced dead at 2:20 p.m. at the University of Chicago Medical Center, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Further details were not made public yet.
Two gunmen burst into the Englewood home early Tuesday and shot eight people — initially four fatally and seven in the head, according to a police report that cited preliminary information.
About 5:45 a.m., officers received a call of shots fired from the second-floor residents of the house in the 6200 block of South Morgan Street on the South Side.
The officers entered the first-floor apartment of the house and found four people all unresponsive with gunshot wounds to the head. They were all in various rooms of the apartment.
The first four dead included 19-year-old Shermetria Williams, 28-year-old Ratanya Aryiel Rogers, 32-year-old Denice “Niecy” Mathis and 35-year-old Blake Lee, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Three of the initial four surviving victims found at the scene also had gunshot wounds to their heads, the report said.
The four included a 23-year-old man shot multiple times and three others with head wounds: a 25-year-old woman who was in critical condition, a 25-year-old man in fair condition and a 41-year-old man in serious condition, the report said.
Numerous .45-caliber and 9 mm shell casings were found throughout the home, the report said.
No arrests have been made in the case, according to Officer Hector Alfaro, a police spokesman.

Chicago’s Fox affiliate WFLD-TV reports:

The home where the shooting occurred is owned by a Chicago police officer who is facing a lawsuit by the city that ordered him to provide more security at the home.
The “public nuisance” suit was filed in March 2020 after a man was shot during a party inside the two-story, wood-frame structure, which has a gray stone front and sought “action to abate criminal activity” at the home.
City officials said the suit stalled for more than a year because the officer, Enrique Badillo Sr., couldn’t be reached — even though he works for the city.

So, one of your police officers is the landlord of a “public nuisance,” where people are murdered with shots to the head, and how does the mayor of this great city respond? BLAME WHITEY!

Mayor Lori Lightfoot on Thursday declared systemic racism a public health crisis in Chicago, saying disparities in access to effective and affordable health care, the impact of racism on the mental health of people of color, and the subsequent difference in life expectancy “is literally killing us.” . . .
“When we think about racism, many of us think about it in visible and audible forms, but the reality is the insidious nature of systemic racism has other impacts that are every bit as deep and harmful, but often ones that we can’t see, like the impacts on the psyche and other impacts on our bodies that are just as, if not more deadly,” Lightfoot said.

Question: Has the murder rate in Chicago gone up or down since Lightfoot was elected as the city’s first black mayor? While I hesitate to introduce logic to the discussion — logic is a weapon of the white supremacist heteronormative  patriarchy, you know — it would seem to me that there must be less “systemic racism” in Chicago now than there was under the mayoralty of any of her white predecessors. So how is it that “the insidious nature of systemic racism” is having a more deadly impact now, with Lightfoot as mayor, than under previous mayors?

Let’s quote an expert on homicide in Chicago:

Sirflonia Hurds said her son was shot and killed in April, and it was her second child murdered.
“They shot him right here on the porch, fell over in the yard, shot in the main artery,” said Hurds. “It’s not the white man killin’ Black, it’s the Black killing the Black.”

She’d be a better mayor than Lori Lightfoot.

CORRECTION: I incorrectly called Lori Lightfoot the first black mayor of Chicago, but she’s actually the third. However, she is the first black lesbian mayor, but that’s something else.

Rebekah Jones Update

Posted on | June 19, 2021 | Comments Off on Rebekah Jones Update

In case you didn’t see this story already, the fake “whistleblower” Rebekah Jones attempted to destroy the career of a Ph.D. student at Florida State University who only wanted to help get Florida’s COVID-19 death totals accurately counted. The word “psychopath” is now being widely used to describe the woman who was the subject of “Everybody Blog About Rebekah Jones Day” a couple months ago. Because I am a professional journalist, however, I would hesitate to use the clinical term “psychopath” because I have no credentials to make such a diagnosis and it might be construed as defamatory. Nevertheless, I have previously stated my opinion that Jones is “deranged, demented, daft, wacky, bonkers, non compos mentis, off her rocker, nuttier than a Snickers bar, a few fries short of a Happy Meal, and cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs.”

Meanwhile, my podcast partner John Hoge has the latest developments in the criminal case of Florida v. Jones, in which the fake “whistleblower” is charged with “offenses against users of computers, computer systems, computer networks and electronic devices.” Lawyers for Jones filed a motion to dismiss the charge, and the prosecutor filed his response to her motion, and a judge will rule on these motions soon enough.

This means that Rebekah Jones is still at large, so be careful out there because, you know, Crazy People Are Dangerous.

P.S.: 7 p.m. ET for The Other Podcast tonight.

Say Good-Bye to Victoria’s Secret

Posted on | June 19, 2021 | Comments Off on Say Good-Bye to Victoria’s Secret

Remember Rule 5? “Everybody loves a pretty girl.” No one is really offended by Elsa Hosk modeling sparkly underwear for Victoria’s Secret. Sure, some people will say they’re offended, but in reality they’re just envious. Face it, if you looked like Elsa Hosk, you’d probably walk around in sparkly underwear all the time. But because you don’t look like Elsa Hosk, nobody wants to see you in sparkly underwear, and they certainly aren’t going to pay you to prance around in lingerie.

Most of us have adjusted to this reality. We’ve accepted our fate. We’re never going to be at the apex of human beauty, and nobody’s ever going to pay us to walk around in sparkly underwear. We’re not Swedish supermodels, but despite our aesthetic deficits, we manage to carry on, and for most of us — we, the non-Swedish non-models — our disadvantage is something we don’t even think about. We admire the beauty of those who have it, rather than resent our own lack of it.

Because we are not feminists.

Feminists hate beauty. Feminists hate love. Feminists hate everything good and wholesome and wish to destroy whatever makes us happy, e.g., Swedish supermodels prancing around in lingerie.

In 2001, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show got 12.4 million viewers, which is about 10 times the audience for CNN, because nobody wants to watch Brian Stelter walk around in sparkly underwear. By 2018, however, the Victoria’s Secret audience had dwindled to less than 4 million, and it was cancelled (unlike Brian Stelter, who continues to have a show on CNN that almost nobody watches). So no more Elsa Hosk strutting down the runway in lacy lingerie — a victory for feminists. Just to put an exclamation point on this destruction, however, now Victoria’s Secret has decided to “rebrand” itself by hiring a bunch of ugly women:

It was once one of the most glamorous brands in the world, known for its catwalk show of sexy, slender models, who would train for months to ensure they looked the part.
But after facing years of plummeting sales figures and ongoing backlash over its lack of diversity, Victoria’s Secret has finally succumbed to its critics by coming up with a new way of promoting the brand after its famed catwalk show was cancelled in 2019.
The lingerie giant has unveiled its new ‘diverse’ line-up of spokeswomen, which includes Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Megan Rapinoe.
Indian actress Priyanka, 38, who is married to singer Nick Jonas, and LGBT advocate and footballer Megan, 35, join a roster of other diverse ‘leading icons’ that have been recruited to ‘shape the future of the brand’, Page Six reported on Wednesday.
A source told the publication that the women won’t be posing in lingerie, but will ‘instead appear on a podcast and in marketing materials for the recovering brand.’
Priyanka and Megan will reportedly join Sudanese-Australian model Adut Akech, freestyle skier Eileen Gu, Brazilian transgender model Valentina Sampaio, plus-size model Paloma Elsesser, and journalist Amanda de Cadenet, who is set to host a 10-episode podcast where the women will share their stories. . . .
[Martin] Waters, who was appointed chief executive in February after serving as head of Victoria’s Secret’s international business, told the New York Times that the brand ‘needed to stop being about what men want and to be about what women want.’
He added: ‘I’ve known that we needed to change this brand for a long time, we just haven’t had the control of the company to be able to do it.’

Anyone who expects this project to succeed is welcome to offer a wager. If you really think Victoria’s Secret is going to do better with transgender models, fat women, and purple-hair lesbian soccer players than it did with Swedish supermodels, put your money where your mouth is. But obviously this “rebranding” isn’t about saving the company, rather it’s about destroying the company — the ultimate “Get Woke, Go Broke.”
