A Lee County Judge has ordered an Auburn teen charged with Murder be held without bond due to public safety concerns on behalf of the Lee Co. District Attorney’s Office.
16-year-old Ross McFarland is charged in Thursday’s shooting death of 66-year-old Martha White. White was the fiancé of McFarland’s father, a prominent east Alabama physician.
“I requested an extraordinary bond in this case as a result of evidence obtained during the investigation. I presented this information to the court in support of my public safety concerns and the judge ordered the defendant to be held without bond,” shared Lee Co. District Attorney Brandon Hughes.
Prosecutors declined to comment specifically on why McFarland’s release would cause them to be concerned for the safety of the public.
Ross McFarland, who is publicly known to identify as male, is being held at the Lee County Detention Facility as a female according to detention facility records.
Coroner Bill Harris says White appears to have been killed by a single gunshot based on a preliminary exam.
Auburn police arrested the 16-year-old early Friday morning on Murder charges after the Thursday night homicide along Burke Place.
“On Oct. 18, 2019, at approximately 6:30 a.m., Auburn Police along with the assistance of members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force and Tallapoosa County Drug Task Force arrested Ross Jonathan McFarland, 16, of Auburn, on a warrant for Murder,” said Auburn Police Captain Lorenzo Dorsey.
Investigators say analysis of the scene resulted in McFarland, who resides at the residence on Burke Place, being developed as a suspect in the death.
“McFarland, a truck missing from the residence and what is believed to be the weapon used in the homicide, was located in the 10,000 block of Highway 50 near Dadeville and taken into custody,” said Dorsey.
McFarland has been charged with Murder, transported to the Lee County jail and was held under a $150,000 bond until a no bond was issued in a Friday afternoon hearing. This means McFarland will be held until a possible trial unless a new bond is set in the case.

My brother Kirby called my attention to this case, but when I did a Google search, none of the other news stories I found made any mention of “Ross” being, in fact, a girl who “identifies” as a boy. This account from WRBL-TV turns out to be the only article that mentions it. My guess is that “Ross” has undergone a legal name change and had been on testosterone prior to the murder. But unless journalists start asking questions — and reporting the answers — we’re not going to know all the facts. Also, if a transgender teenager had been the victim of homicide, you’d see it all over the national media, but because this case involves a suspected transgender perpetrator, it’s just “local news.”

UPDATE: OK, it appears the case may be opposite of what I’d presumed. Ross McFarland may actually be a male who “identifies” as female. Ross’s father is Dr. John H. McFarland, age 68. Ross’s mother, Donna, who was the doctor’s second wife, died last year at age 45. The couple married in 1996 and Ross was the youngest of their three children. Dr. McFarland apparently had two children by his previous marriage. So the question is why Ross is identified as female on jail records. We must wait for further reporting to clarify this issue.

Roll Tide!

After the conclusion of The Other Podcast Saturday night, my colleague John Hoge and I went to dinner with my brother Kirby who, thanks to generous support from the tip-jar hitters is now recuperating here. After dinner, Hoge dropped Kirby and I off at my son Jim’s house, where we watched the Alabama Crimson Tide defeat Tennessee, 35-13. The game was actually closer than the final score would imply. In the fourth quarter, Tennessee drove down to the Alabama 1-yard-line where their quarterback ran a keeper and fumbled while trying to extend the ball over the goal line. The loose ball was scooped up by Tide cornerback Trevon Diggs. As Diggs streaked down the sideline in the opposite direction, Kirby said, “Ain’t gonna catch him. He’s the fastest man on the field.”

It was this 100-yard fumble return that put the victory away, but despite their undefeated season so far, Alabama is a team with problems. There are true freshmen starting in the Tide defense which, as Coach Nick Saban said in a post-game interview, is “a work in progress.” Meanwhile, Alabama’s quarterback Tua Tagovailoa left the game with an ankle injury that will keep him out of the lineup at least until the Nov. 9 meeting with undefeated LSU, currently ranked No. 3 nationally.

Perhaps the best news to come out of Saturday’s game, however, was something Kirby called to my attention in the second half.

“A black punter — you don’t see that much,” he said.

This is one of those facts that you’re never supposed to mention. All behavioral patterns involving race are taboo in our society, so that anyone who merely points out an observable pattern automatically becomes suspected of racism. And I must confess that this was a question that never occurred to me: Why are the punters and kickers in football always white? In a sport where black players excel at every other other position, you simply take it for granted that the kickers are always white. Yet here was a black punter coming into the game for Alabama, a fact that turns out to be newsworthy for other reasons:

Ty Perine is a punting sensation.
The walk-on freshman from Prattville High School entered the second half of Alabama’s game against Tennessee and instantly became a fan favorite.
Alabama fans have been dealing with kicking woes for years and the Crimson Tide have ranked near the bottom of college football in punting average this season.
So it’s no surprise that the crowd at Bryant-Denny Stadium cheered wildly for Perine who started his career with two successful punts for a 46.5 yard average. . . .
“He’s a guy that’s a walk-on that’s gotten better throughout the course of the year and we thought it was time for him to get an opportunity based on some of the struggles we’ve had at that position,” head coach Nick Saban said after the game. “And I thought he responded really well.” . . .
Perine entered in place of freshman Will Reichard, who played his first game in a month after suffering a hip flexor but left the game late in the second quarter with another apparent injury. Reichard had a 33-yard punt in his only attempt Saturday before leaving after apparently re-injuring the hip flexor injury that cost him two the past two games. . . .
At Prattville, Perine had quite the successful career, helping the Lions reach the playoffs his senior year and an extremely high average hang time on his punts. He was also on the soccer team.
In Week 10 of last year’s high school football season, he had a 57-yard punt downed on 1-yard line against Smiths Station with 4 minutes remaining in a 23-18 win that coach Caleb Ross called the play of the game. . . .
He was the Montgomery Advertiser’s All-Metro punter in 2017 when he averaged 42 yards per punt and had nine punts landed inside the 20. He was the news organization’s All-Metro placekicker in 2018 when he was 8-of-13 on field goals with a long of 35, including a last-minute, game-winning 28-yarder at Stanhope Elmore. He also averaged 38.2 yards on 40 punts with seven downed inside the 20 last year.

The question here is why this kid had to walk on at Alabama. Shouldn’t this high-school standout have been recruited for a scholarship? And you have to wonder if some subtle racism explains this. Because nearly all kickers and punters are white, perhaps this has become an expectation that would cause college coaches to overlook a talented black kicker, in the same way white running backs and receivers are often overlooked.

Also, notice that Perine played soccer in high school. Soccer is one area of U.S. athletics where African-Americans are severely underrepresented, in the same way (and perhaps for the same reasons) that blacks were underrepresented in golf (before Tiger Woods) and gymnastics (before Dominique Dawes) — these are sports where economic privilege matters, where private lessons and other expenses limit opportunities for poor kids. Whereas in the rest of the world, soccer is a sport of the masses, in the United States it’s a game of the suburban middle class, and parents have to pay for their kids to participate in youth leagues. Also uniquely to the United States, football attracts top athletes who might, in other countries, be playing soccer. In the South, at least, high-school soccer is played in the spring, and most high-school football coaches don’t want their players participating in soccer, mostly because of the risk of leg injuries. If you’re a high-school football star, you coach would rather you play baseball or run track in the spring. Anyway . . .

Alabama may have finally solved their punting problem, and now if the defense can get its act together, we’ll have a shot at the title.

What exactly the hell is a “legally compliant disclosure”? In case anyone doesn’t understand, under the Amazon Associates program, anytime you visit Amazon through my links here, I get a small commission (at no cost to you) on every purchase you make during that visit. Because I’ve always been “transparent” — hey, give me your money, this is a capitalist blog! — I can’t imagine any reader feels they have been deceived when I do an affiliate link (usually to a book title) on the blog. ‘Team Woman’ and Their Victims

Edmund Burke famously wrote of the French Revolution, “The effect of liberty to individuals is that they may do what they please; we ought to see what it will please them to do, before we risk congratulations which may be soon turned into complaints.” The truth of Burke’s warning to France was proven by subsequent events, and yet it seems we have learned nothing from the history of the past two centuries. Think about the consequences of the Sexual Revolution and modern feminism, which began in the late 1960s as the Women’s Liberation Movement. The catastrophic effects of “liberty to individuals” can scarcely be denied, and we can see this not only as statistical trends, but in particular cases. Some people are simply incapable of exercising prudent judgment, and their folly often inflicts heartbreaking pain on those unfortunate enough to be associated with such fools. In a post earlier this week (“What Causes Misogyny?”), I discussed the case of a man who discovered from a DNA test that his 15-year-old daughter was not actually his daughter, but rather the result of his cheating ex-wife’s affairs. What perhaps shocked me most in that tale was when the man told how, after discovering how he’d been deceived, he determined have nothing more to do with his ex-wife’s daughter — and yet allowed his mother to talk him into embracing the child as if she were actually his own! Some readers took issue with my opinion on that story, but Adam Piggott gets the point:

Three generations of women were lined up against the man — his mother, his cheating wife, and the girl who he had thought was his daughter. . . .
The man’s mother is the key figure here. She sided against her son. She took the side of the mother of the girl who was actually not her granddaughter. Now, I am sure that the vast majority of you are aware of what grandparents are like around their grandchildren and how they tend to lose their brains. Mind you, the grannies are the Boomers now so maybe that’s not a thing anymore.
Anyway, my point is that no-granny here took the side of team women even though every logical point ruled against her taking that position. But women are not logical. Even worse, they are out of control and slaves to their feelings. We have let them have unfettered access to their feelings and given those same feelings a measure of artificial importance.
Feelings lead to chaos which inevitably leads to destruction.
Women will always always go team woman if they have a say in the matter and if there are no social consequences for them to do so.

Of course, Adam over-generalizes here — not all women are hyper-emotional or irrationally devoted to Team Woman. Nevertheless, the point is how such irrationality makes family unity impossible.

One of the principles that my wife and I consciously applied in parenting our children (five of whom are now adults, and the youngest 16) was to have a United Front of parental authority. Children can be very shrewd in exploiting any potential division between parents, and if they can succeed in doing so, bad consequences predictably follow. Parents have to consult between themselves and reach agreement in terms of what the rules are for their children and how the rules should be enforced, because every child is a potential tyrant who will employ a divide-and-conquer strategy, unless faced with a resolute unity of adult authority.

My assumption, from the absence of any reference to the cuckolded man’s father in that tale, is that his parents either never married, or else they were divorced and he was raised under his mother’s authority — a “mama’s boy,” taught from earliest childhood to defer to women’s wishes, which may explain why his ex-wife had no respect for him.

Every man must be the judge of his own honor. That’s a point I’ve made in other contexts, where someone has insulted me and, when I call attention to the insult, they respond by saying that they didn’t intend to insult me — which is a further and arguably more grievous insult, in that they are now telling me that I have imagined the injury I’ve suffered, or perhaps that I deserved to be mistreated. Where I come from, that would get you a punch in the nose, or worse. I grew up around rednecks, and when a redneck tells you he is offended by something you said or did, you’re only going to make matters worse if you tell him he is mistaken.

The curious thing of my own experience is that (a) every fight I’ve been in as an adult involved a quarrel over a woman, and (b) I’ve never thrown the first punch. No, i was always getting sucker-punched by some fool who let himself be tricked into playing “White Knight.” My attitude was captured in a throw-away line Ronnie Van Zant stuck into the live version of “Gimme Three Steps,” where he says, “I ain’t fixin’ to die over no [vulgar term for a vulva].” It is as predictable as sunrise in the East, however, that when a woman gets her feelings hurt, she will conceive a plan of revenge, often without bothering to say anything to the person against whom she bears a grudge. Women seem to learn this attitude in childhood, squabbling amongst themselves on the elementary school playground, and many of them never grow out of this childish tendency, which often takes the form of being a gossipy tattletale: “Did you hear what So-and-So did? I’m going to tell teacher!”

Women doing that playground tattletale act can literally get men killed. She develops a grudge against a guy — for whatever reason, or no sometimes no discernible reason at all — and finds some fool who’s willing to play “White Knight” for her. The fool listens to her one-sided sob story about how this terrible man said or did something mean to her and, being a fool, the “White Knight” doesn’t doubt a word she tells him, nor even stop to consider whether her tale of grievance is plausible. No, sir, he’s a pretty girl crying, and he’s going to avenge her by whuppin’ the ass of the low-down scoundrel who done her wrong. Next think you know, he or the other guy ends up dead, and the one who’s still living is one his way to prison, and the judge don’t want to hear you sad story, pal. The jailhouse is full of fools with stories to tell, and there are men in the graveyard whose side of the story died with them. But I digress . . .

Every man must be the judge of his own honor, as I say, and if a man has been cuckolded by his wife, deceived into raising another man’s child, why would his own mother take side against him when he declares he wants nothing more to do with the child who is, from his perspective, the living symbol of his own humiliation? It is cruel to expect a man to endure such shame, but as Adam Piggott says, it’s “Team Woman.”

Apparently with no sympathy for her son, who has suffered a grievous wrong, his mother instead is full of gushy irrational feeling for the child who has been foisted upon her son by his ex-wife’s deception! It apparently does not occur to her that her son’s cheating ex-wife as also deceived her into imagining that this child was her granddaughter, and she permits her sentimental connection to the child — now a teenager — to trump “every logical point” in favor of her son’s position.

Feelings are more important than facts to Team Woman, and we must pity this poor guy who’s been dominated by women his entire life.

Family unity, as I say, requires parents to maintain a United Front of authority with their children, and there are many unfortunate consequences of failing to do this. One of them is that, in a divided household, children don’t develop a proper sense of self-respect. Under wise parental authority — the United Front — children learn to live by the shared values of the parents, and to respect themselves according to how well they live up to those values. Children often go through a rebellious stage as adolescents, but once they reach maturity and get on the right track, upholding the values they learned growing up, the well-raised child will say, “I turned out all right, so I guess Mom and Dad must have known what they were doing all along.” The decadence of our society in the 21st century is simply a result of millions of bad parental decisions.

Well, I could extend this lecture a long way before exhausting every relevant point, but I’m nearing 1,500 words already, and I expect the readers will want to share their own insights. Bottom line, I reckon, is that we shouldn’t wonder why the suicide rate is now so high for men. Their souls are being crushed to despair by Team Woman.

Esmerelda Gonzalez worked in ‘the adult entertainment industry,’ sources say.

Look, I realize “whore” is a strong word, but when a “model” (ahem) is described as working in “the adult entertainment industry,” it seems safe to assume she was engaged in, uh, commercial transactions. Also, she had breast implants and an Instagram account full of photos that were rather obviously intended to advertise her, uh, services. And did I mention that her family said she was diagnosed with schizophrenia and that police say she was doing methamphetamine before she was killed? Furthermore, Esmeralda Gonzalez was a native of Michoacán, so you combine these facts and calling her a “Crazy Meth-Head Mexican Whore” is simply objective journalism. Like Joe Friday: “Just the facts, ma’am.”

The body of a Las Vegas woman who was reported missing in May is believed to have been found in the Nevada desert, completely encased in concrete inside a “wooden structure,” court documents reveal.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police were dispatched to a home on May 31 just before 7 p.m. concerning a missing person report. The victim, later identified by Las Vegas Review-Journal as Esmeralda Gonzalez, 24, had not been heard from for several days.
Several months later, on Oct. 8., homicide detectives recovered a body in the desert area just north of Las Vegas. Police said the body was found completely encased in “concrete and in a wooden structure.” Although police have not yet formally identified the victim, court documents obtained by the Review-Journal name Gonzalez.
Days later, police arrested Christopher Prestipino, 45, and Lisa Mort, 31, in connection with the discovery of the body.
According to a press release from the LVMPD, investigators believe that the victim had at some point been inside Prestipino’s residence. She was being held against her will and was subsequently “murdered.” . . .
The pair was arrested on Oct. 11 and Prestipino was charged with open murder, kidnapping in the first degree resulting in substantial bodily harm and conspiracy murder.
Mort was also booked into the Clark County Detention Center on the charge of harbor/conceal/aid a felony offender.
According to court documents obtained by the Review-Journal, Prestipino strangled the victim and then injected her body with pool cleaner after leaving her “tied up to a bedpost for an extended period of time.” After she was killed, he reportedly transported the body to the desert using a rented U-Haul.
The victim, who was said to work in the adult entertainment industry and had a large following on social media, lived about one-tenth of a mile from the suspect, according to the report.
Court documents also stated that the victim suffered from mental illness and was captured on surveillance the day she disappeared walking around her neighborhood in high heels and lingerie asking for rides.

Gonzalez had more than 300,000 followers on an Instagram page laden with partially clad glamour shots; her Facebook and Instagram pages say she was also a college student. . . .
According to his LinkedIn page, Chris Prestipino worked as a “stagehand-Audio Visual Technician” at Bally’s/Paris Hotel in Las Vegas from 1999 to present. . . .
Clark County online court records show that Prestipino is a felon. He has multiple drug cases on his criminal history, including one for manufacturing meth. Mort is accused of harboring, concealing or aiding a felon. Prestipino is accused of murder and kidnapping.
Mort also has a drug history. She’s Prestipino’s girlfriend.
His felony case for drug dealing dates to 2001 and resulted in a suspended sentence and probation.

So, you’re a drug-dealing felon and one day you spot a crazy Mexican whore wandering around the streets in nothing but lingerie and heels, and you do what any drug-dealing felon in Las Vegas would do. How many dead whores are buried in the desert outside Vegas whose bodies have never been found? More than a few, I’d guess. Decades worth.

Is there any real cultural or political significance to this story? No, but John Hoge keeps accusing me of failing to maintain Rule Five standards, and this seemed like a convenient opportunity to even the score.
