EXCLUSIVE: Hollywood Teen Bride’s Mom Blames Jealousy, ‘Insecurities’ for Criticism of Courtney and Doug Hutchison

Courtney Stodden and her husband Doug Hutchison are being criticized because of jealousy, the mother of the teenage singer/actress said Wednesday in an exclusive interview.

“I mean, a girl that every man would love to have, and she’s a woman that every woman would like to be, and women know this, and they try to discredit her,” Krista Stodden told me in a phone interview, describing the negative reaction to her 16-year-old daughter marrying 51-year-old Hutchison. “And so what is out there in the media is just their insecurities, just flying all over the place.”

What Mrs. Stodden called a “media circus” has enveloped the couple since they disclosed their June wedding in Nevada, where 16-year-olds can marry legally with parental permission. The bride’s mother — who at 51, is the same age as her new son-in-law — said the couple are “so wonderful together,” and defended the marriage as “biblical” and “a blessing.”

Doug Hutchison, an actor best known for his performance in the Oscar-winning movie “The Green Mile” and in the TV series “Lost,” wasn’t the first older man ever to take an interest in Courtney, her mother said.

“She had a bunch of men all over the world trying to contact her through the computer. We’re talking rich, rich men. Even police officers were really wanting to get together with her,” Mrs. Stodden said of Courtney, the youngest of her three daughters. Read more

It doesn’t matter what you buy. They sell everything at Amazon, and when you shop through our links — just click and browse their amazing selection — they kick me a 4% commission on whatever you buy.

One of the things that always surprises me when checking the Amazon Associates sales report is the discovery that I’ve gotten a commission after a reader bought something I didn’t even know Amazon sold. My tendency is always to think, “Oh, Amazon — the online bookstore.” But just as I never think about Amazon as a seller of beauty supplies, I also never think of them as a sporting goods store.

Just yesterday, for example, somebody bought a Garmin Echo 550C Fishfinder for $399.58. That’s a $15.98 commission for me — thanks!

However, one thing they don’t sell on Amazon is marriage counseling. And dude, when your wife finds out you bought yourself a $400 fish-finder, there’s gonna be hell to pay unless you also buy the missus something nice and thoughtful. Maybe not the Hitachi Magic Wand Personal Massager, but something.

Talking to Courtney Stodden’s Mom

By strangest happenstance, I found myself on the phone this afternoon with Krista Stodden, whose 16-year-old daughter Courtney made worldwide headlines last month when it was learned that the aspiring singer/actress had married 51-year-old actor Doug Hutchison, best known for his role in the Oscar-winner “The Green Mile.”

Transcribing our 35-minute interview is taking longer than I had anticipated when I teased Twitter followers three hours ago:

Incredible! You won’t believe who I just interviewed. I promise — You. Will. Not. Believe.

Rather than let the speculation run wild: Yeah, Courtney’s mom reached out to me, saying that she really enjoyed my post last week in which I reminded readers: “Courtney describes herself as a Christian and a Republican. She’s on our side, whether we like it or not.”

A couple of quick things: While some commentators have labeled the Stodden family “trailer trash,” they are in fact prosperous and well-respected in their community. Furthermore, accusations that Krista Stodden is a “stage mom” who pushed Courtney into show business — some have even accused Courtney’s parents of “pimping” their daughter — are utterly without factual basis. And finally, as I was talking to Mrs. Stodden about my sympathy toward public figures who have been demonized in the media, I mentioned Sarah Palin — and she’s a huge fan.

Now I’ve got to get back to transcribing audio of the interview, and expect to have a complete feature online in a few more hours. But I wanted to let you know it’s coming, and also to share with you — at Krista Stodden’s suggestion  —  this video that Courtney did when she was 14:

Perhaps you see the point: Nobody had to “push” Courtney into show business. And you can see that, even at age 14, she was already way too much for tiny Ocean Shores, Wash., population 3,836.

The Columbia (S.C.) State reports:

The news of the vicious beating quickly riled the community. . . . It renewed fear of gangs roving through Five Points. And, the fact that a group of African-American teens beat up a white teen has inflamed racial tensions. . . .
During the bond hearing, Columbia Police Investigator Robert McCracken said Carter Strange was the victim of a group of eight teenagers who were roaming Five Points looking for trouble.
They had arrived in Five Points around 11:50 p.m. Sunday, McCracken said. They had targeted other people for an assault or robbery, but circumstances prevented them, McCracken said.

A gang of black teenagers roaming around looking for a white person to attack? But that’s not a “hate crime.” Just like nightstick-wielding Panthers at a polling place is not “voter intimidation.”

Pregnancy Is Not a Disease and Contraception Is Not ‘Health Care’

Why, therefore, does Obama want to make insurance coverage for birth control mandatory?

Virtually all health insurance plans could soon be required to offer female patients free coverage of prescription birth control, breast-pump rentals, counseling for domestic violence, and annual wellness exams and HIV tests as a result of recommendations released Tuesday by an independent advisory panel of health experts.
The health-care law adopted last year directed the Obama administration to draw up a list of preventive services for women that all new health plans must cover without deductibles or co-payments. While the guidelines suggested Tuesday by a committee of the National Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Medicine are not binding, the panel conducted its year-long review at the request of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.

Maybe Mr. “Catholics for Obama” Douglas Kmiec can explain this to the idiots he duped in 2008. Meanwhile, this looks likes a good occasion to mention ForRepeal.com:

Back on terra Americana at last! The wife has overhauled major chunks of the house, and it looks great. Also, being in a country with usable bandwidth is a refreshing change. Not to get too self-congratulatory here, but you really have to know too much to get any sort of blogposts going from Other Places.

Mrs. Other Smitty was gracious enough to pose for a Blogger Bump photo. The World’s Youngest Blogger is estimated to be arriving around the 25th, but we may, for various reasons, set about encouraging him to emerge somewhat sooner.

Thank you to the endless stream of well-wishers, in person and online. Heaven forbid I ever confuse myself with the People Who Matter. The blogosphere is just a self-selecting collection of people who understand American Exceptionalism and will not suffer the Progressives to offer inferior, unaffordable substitutes for liberty.

Restated: offer me no admiration; offer me action in support of the Constitution.

He Made It to the Third Sentence

David Brooks wrote two sentences before he lost me:

Over the past months, Republicans enjoyed enormous advantages. Opinion polls showed that voters are eager to reduce the federal debt, and they want to do it mostly but not entirely through spending cuts.
There was a Democratic president eager to move to the center.

Right. Obama — the guy whose pants creases David Brooks so admires — was “eager to move to center.”

Brooks then goes on to take cheap shots at Grover Norquist, Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann, among others, and also includes this:

The talk-radio jocks are not in the business of promoting conservative governance. They are in the business of building an audience by stroking the pleasure centers of their listeners.

Whose “pleasure centers” is David Brooks stroking, huh?

Obligatory ‘Chris Matthews Says Something Stupid’ Video Post

Richard McEnroe at Three Beers Later called attention to this yesterday:

David Corn says “the Republicans have depicted themselves as hostage-takers who are ready to blow things up and the public doesn’t like this” — which is both untrue and stupid. Pat Buchanan then attempted to defend Republicans and the Tea Party movement.

This evidently inspired Chris Matthews to re-assert his claim to championship of the Liberal Stupidity Derby:

“The whole idea is to separate this idea of ideological warfare you [i.e., Buchanan] enjoy from the need to keep the government from default. You seem to be one of the happy Indians. By the way, the tea partiers, the original ones, dressed up like Indians and put on a little show. These guys are running around burning down houses. It’s a different kind of tea party,”

Whatever you think of the “Cut, Cap and Balance” bill that passed the House yesterday, it is at least something. Obama’s got nothing, and Obama’s spokesman Jay Carney says nothing is better than something.
