Guess Who Just Got an Invitation to the Right Online Conference in Las Vegas?

No, of course not me. But somebody sent an invitation to my good friend Barbara Espinosa of American Freedom blog. And who do you suppose sent Barbara this invitation? If you guessed “Satan,” you’re pretty close:

Subject: Will you join us for the RightOnline Conference this year?

Dear Barbara,
Last August we gathered in Pittsburgh with over 700 fellow activists at the National RightOnline Conference to take a stand for limited government and free enterprise. Before that many of you came to our Regional RightOnline Conference in Chicago to take a stand for the same principles. It was great to see so many freedom loving citizens from around the country come together and learn how we can use Internet activism to stop the radical left agenda.
We made immense progress this year online, but the Obama administration continues to threaten our freedoms on a daily basis. That’s why I’m asking you to join fellow citizen activists, the nation’s foremost new media experts, and top conservative leaders for the third annual RightOnline Conference in Las Vegas at the Venetian Hotel on July 23 & 24.
After registering, you can reserve your hotel room at the Venetian Hotel for a discounted price . . .
This year’s conference features leading conservative voices such as Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, Congressman Mike Pence, Talk Radio Host Herman Cain, RedState.com’s Erick Erickson, HotAir.com’s Ed Morrissey, The Wall Street Journal’s Stephen Moore and John Fund, Talk Radio Host Guy Benson, Fox News Contributor Jim Pinkerton, Talk Radio Host Curtis Sliwa, and many more to be added.
This summer, more than ever, conservatives must be equipped with the tools to bring our country back to freedom and prosperity.
I hope you will join us in Las Vegas for another important RightOnline Conference.
Sincerely,
Erik Telford
Executive Director, RightOnline

See what I mean? Erik Telford is inviting all my friends to Right Online — offering them discounted rooms at the fabulous Venetian Hotel! — but have I gotten an invitation?

No. Because I’m not one of “the nation’s foremost new media experts,” nor am I one of those “top conservative leaders,” so Erik Telford is going to make doggone sure that I never get invited.

Don’t let the fact that I have once again been viciously snubbed by Erik Telford prevent you from attending this “important Right Online Conference.” I’m sure it will be great.

Say hello to all my friends while you’re there. Having fun. Without me.

Barney Frank Twofer: AZ Support And Bias Against Djou-ish People

by Smitty (via Lucianne)

Barney Frank, in an overt display of pre-djou-dice, put on the following display:

Frank walked the hallway of the Speaker’s Lobby off the House floor calling on the media to “do your job” and review Djou’s papers.
It was a small bit of payback for the enormous amount of attention some conservatives (and the media) paid to the is-the-president-really-from-America controversy.
But, unlike the commander-in-chief, as Frank knows, being born outside the U.S. does not preclude you from becoming a member of Congress.

At least Frank supports an SB1070-style credential review, even if it means singling people out, possibly because of their heritage.

SBA List Will Back Fiorina in California

The powerful pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List has just announced a $215,000 independent expenditure campaign “highlighting the strong pro-life stance of California Senate candidate Carly Fiorina.” The campaign leading up to the June 8 California primary will involve “aggressive online advertising and e-mail campaign, targeted calls to 600,000 registered voters and direct fundraising from its membership,” the organization said in a press release Tuesday, which quoted SBA List president Marjorie Dannenfelser:

“Carly Fiorina is the perfect pro-woman, pro-life contrast to Barbara Boxer. The Susan B. Anthony List is dedicating significant resources in the final two weeks of the primary to educate California voters about Fiorina’s strong pro-life position and ability to beat Boxer in November.
“California is burdened with two female Senators who claim to represent women by pushing their radical, pro-abortion agenda, yet polling clearly shows that more and more Americans are calling themselves pro-life. Carly Fiorina is uniquely poised to be a leader for the unborn and for women in the U.S. Senate, ushering in a new brand of ‘feminism’ that harkens back to its roots in the suffragettes and recognizes that the rights of one are not built on the broken rights of another.”

SBA List calls Boxer “the most aggressive champion of abortion rights in Congress.” According to SBA List communications director Kerry Brown, the $215,000 for Fiorina will include $5,000 in direct PAC contribution, $12,000 in bundled contributions (so far), $80,000 in Google ads, $39,000 for survey calls, and $60,000 in robo-calls.

Among the $6 million SBA list expects to spend nationwide for the 2010 mid-term election cycle, $1 million will go “to target ‘pro-life’ Democrats who voted for abortion funding in the health care bill.”

In The Mail: My ‘Retire Jim Moran’ Bumper Sticker

by Smitty

Even the Instapundit had to have a ‘first swag’ item. Mine came Tuesday, a righteous little piece of bumper goodness:

And retire Jim Moran we must. While I’m 99% proud of my country, one legitimate cause for guilt is the way that Progressive tools like Moran have quite literally pillaged the rest of the country to line their wallets and those of their sycophants. Moran reeks so bad, even the Kossacks won’t have him (maybe a kickback was missed).

Besides my general regard for Stacy McCain, among my general reasons for offering support to this blog is a firm conviction that Jim Moran’s professional career (he may be a decent man personally, though I’ve heard some things. . .) represents the sad pattern of elitist thuggery and failure that must be reversed if this country is to recover.

The post you see in the pic is the announcement for OediPOTUS Wrecks, which read.

OMG: Did You See What Haley Accuser Will Folks Wrote About Ashley Herzog?

Jesse Hathaway is a friend of a friend. I encouraged Jesse with his blog, Athens Runaway. Jesse went to college with blogger Ashley Herzog, whom I met at CPAC 2008. We’ll let Jesse take the story from there:

Folks has… a bad attitude towards women. And that’s understating it. To give an example, he stalked a close personal friend of mine, Ashley Herzog, creeping on her Flickr picture and making lewd blog entries about her, in which he talked about how Herzog, whom he described as a “20-something blonde Republicans [wearing] green eye shadow, black lace tops, pink dirty nothings and too much blush” made him “pull wood.”
Creeping on her again, Folks wrote about her “toying seductively with her ice water. Which according to a quick check of our dirty imaginations is… yup, even hotter.”

OK, to establish some bona fides: I’m the originator of Rule 5 (“Everybody loves a pretty girl”) and the guy who figured out how to deploy Google-bombs to make sure left-wing blogs couldn’t get traffic from using words like “bikini” or “nude” in conjunction with the names of conservative women. I’ve got an irreverent sense of humor, and can’t resist a double-entendre.

A very happily married father of six — my daughter’s wedding is in July — I am nonetheless sympathetic to those young fellows whose  admiration of pulchritude is more concupiscent than aesthetic. After all, when I was a 20-something bachelor, I worked briefly as a DJ in Atlanta strip clubs. (I was a hell-bound Democrat back then.)

All of which is to explain that I am not easily shocked or offended by bawdy antics, but . . . “pull wood” ? I’m sorry. No, that’s wrong.

It’s one thing to cut up in the comments at Aces of Spades HQ. It’s one thing to confess your, um, ardent admiration for a movie star you’re never going to meet in a million years (e.g., Christina Hendricks, Natalie Portman, Anne Hathaway).

However, for a Republican political consultant to employ the phrase “pull wood” when writing about a conservative journalist fresh out of college . . . well, you see why South Carolina sources considered Folks “dangerous and unreliable.”

Notice, by the way, that in the creeptastic post about Herzog, Folks used the “our founding editor” phrase that has appeared in some more recent FITSNews posts about Nikki Haley.

UPDATE: Via Red State, Ace of Spades and Verum Serum, here’s the creeptastic video in which Will Folks simulates a rather disturbing interview with Nikki Haley:

UPDATE II: What an absolute lying scumbag he is:

“My advice was that she and her husband sit down on a sofa together and talk about it the way (President) Clinton did,” Folks said in an interview with The Post and Courier Tuesday.
Folks said they had been in communication for two weeks before he posted his admission Monday that he and Haley had an “inappropriate physical relationship” before Folks got married. He told the Associated Press that the relationship happened in 2007, while he was working for Haley, writing speeches and news releases.
He wouldn’t say if he had intercourse with her but he said it was “inappropriate sexual contact,” it happened more than once and it ended by mutual decision.

So all that crap Monday about how he would have nothing further to say — yeah, that was a lie, too.

He’s e-mailing reporters, giving interviews to papers, and probably by January he’ll be standing on a street corner in Columbia hassling people leaving the inauguration:

“Hey, I once got all sexy with her, y’know. Yeah, we were going at it hot and heavy. Don’t you recognize me? I used to be famous. . . . Say, can I bum one of your smokes there, pal? You wouldn’t happen to have a buck you could spare, would you? I’m a Vietnam vet, y’see, but they kicked me out of the homeless shelter and . . .”

The issue here, not to put too fine a point on it, is that Folks is acting like such a despicable worm — “a low rent piece of white trash,” as Dan Riehl pungently describes him — that you can’t believe a word he says.

Furthermore, let’s be clear: In the modern world, men and women work together. We do not institute sharia-style gender apartheid, because it is assumed that co-workers are capable of conducting themselves responsibly and professionally in such situations. It would be a terrible thing if a female candidate could not employ a male press secretary (or vice-versa) without it being inferred that they were sexually intimate.

If Folks habitually exploits work-related opportunities to “score” — which, according to both Michael Brendan Dougherty and my own sources, seems to be his modus operandi — then his behavior is antithetical to the entire concept of professionalism in the modern workplace.

Who would hire that kind of person in a position of trust? That’s what really shocked me about the whole Lewinsky scandal: The President of the United States is such a hopeless horndog that all it takes is a chubby intern flashing her panties, and next thing you know, he’s soliciting fellatio in the Oval Office?

OK, so when I was a young fool in my 20s (and a hell-bound Democrat), I was easily distracted. In fact, I met my wife at the newspaper office in Calhoun, Ga., and . . . uh, well.

My point is that if Will Folks was such a compulsive skirt-chaser that he couldn’t be trusted alone with a female candidate (or a female consultant, or a female reporter, or Maria the housekeeper at the Days Inn), then maybe he never should have been employed as a Republican political operative. I have often complained about GOP staffers being too buttoned-down and uptight, but as an alternative to creeptastic Will Folks maniacally humping everything with a pulse, buttoned-down and uptight looks a lot more appealing.

Deuce Bigalow, Blogger Gigolo: Latest Developments in the Folks-Haley Saga; BUMPED: ‘Dangerous and Unreliable’

* BUMPED 9:15 p.m. ET – SEE UPDATE BELOW *

If blogger/consultant/man-whore Will Folks has accomplished nothing else by his boast of an “inappropriate physical relationship” with Nikki Halely, there’s no denying that he has provided a target-rich environment for snark. (Ace was classic.)

The fundamental question is this: Out of all the bloggers on the planet, why would an attractive married woman like Nikki Haley choose to have an affair with a complete douchebag like Will Folks? Even if you consider such a scenario as being within the realm of possibility — as does Michael Brendan Dougherty — there can be no doubt that Folks has made a complete laughingstock of himself, and destroyed whatever career prospect he ever had as a political consultant. He’s as radioactive as Chernobyl.

But let us suppose, hypothetically, that Folks is the irresistible stud he claims to be and that, like untold thousands of other women, Nikki Haley fell victim to his seductive magnetism. (She unequivocally denies it.)

Now further suppose that the rumor-mill is turning and reporters are asking questions. What do you do, if you’ve got half a brain in your head? You shut the hell up, is what you do.

The fact that Will Folks can’t seem to shut up about his “inappropriate” relationship is Exhibit A in this case. Exhibit B is that he writes his blog with weird third-person references to “our founding editor,” as if he expects readers to believe that this is anything other than sock puppetry. Typical of been-too-long-in-the-basement paranoia, he’s spinning tales of persecution by “Team Haley” and talking about “our lawyers.” And now — get this — he’s suggesting e-mails and phone records as proof of what he calls “Haley-Gate”:

All we can tell you for now is that the record of correspondence between the two of them began on November 20, 2005 – with an email sent at 8:33 a.m. from Haley’s State House email address ([email protected]) to Will Folks’ personal address ([email protected]) in which Haley complimented Folks on an article he had written praising her gubernatorial ambitions. . . .
That four-and-a-half year record of correspondence ended on Saturday, May 22, 2010 – three days ago – with a text message sent from Folks’ cell phone to Haley’s cell phone at 1:04 p.m. alerting her to the fact that he had been placed in a position where he felt that he had no choice but to address the rumors regarding their relationship on his website.

(Via Memeorandum.) Hey, douchebag: Publish the e-mails or shut the hell up. I’ve got $20 that says you can’t produce an e-mail proving an affair with Nikki Haley. What you are doing is demanding that Haley prove a negative.

Will Folks has already proven one thing beyond a shadow of a doubt: He is a vicious monster.

If he did have an “inappropriate” relationship with Nikki Haley, his actions were dishonorable, proving him to be untrustworthy and disrespectful. And in that case, he would have been doubly dishonorable to “admit” to a rumor that he himself probably played a key role in spreading.

On the other hand, if Will Folks is lying — and who would accept his word against hers? — he is unspeakably vicious.

I’ll get back to laughing at this douchebag later, but right now I’m thinking that if I was Nikki Haley’s huband, the next news story about Will Folks would be his obituary.

Ace goes back to the Comstock Lode of comedy gold:

On the one hand, Will Folks assures me he’s a straight shooter who calls it like he sees it and is so full of integrity and courage that in some countries the oath to tell the truth is made upon one of his incorruptible bowel movements. . . .
I really, really have a problem with guys who never shut up about how uncompromising and courageous and principled they are.

Ace calls attention to this interesting story:

[Folks] says he was pressured to disclose the affair by the campaign of fellow candidate Gresham Barrett. . . .
Folks elaborated in an email Monday night that he believes Barrett is behind the takedown. “All of my sources pointed their fingers directly at the campaign of Gresham Barrett,” Folks wrote. . . .
Barrett spokesman Luke Byars categorically denied that any pressure on Folks came from the Barrett campaign. “This is absolutely not true,” Byars said. “Mr. Folks seems to be full of allegations lately without any proof.”

So, while Folks claimed that he was reluctantly making an admission, he’s now exchanging e-mails with reporters throwing more dirt at people. Politics ain’t beanbag, as James Carville likes to say, and if Will Folks thought he could play this kind of game without consequences, I ssupect he’s about to get a very brutal education.

By the way, because I’m so uncompromising and courageous and principled: I categorically deny any accusation that I ever had “inappropriate” thoughts about Dede Scozzafava.

UPDATE 9:15 p.m. ET: Will Folks was considered “dangerous and unreliable” by some Republicans in South Carolina, according to one source who knows him.

“He’s very smart, but at the same time, he’s stupid, too,” the source said.

Folks’ loose-cannon reputation and his blog’s frequent attacks on powerful Republicans in the state have long made him an object of intense scrutiny. It has been rumored that politicians he’s targeted have been digging for dirt on him for years.

As to the question of whether Folks actually had an affair with Haley, my source gave it a “50-50” chance of being true. Folks is known to “have a way with the ladies,” said the source, confirming Michael Brendan Dougherty’s report.

True or false, what would have been Folks’ motive for making the “admission”? My source was as puzzled as everyone else. Rumors had circulated for more than a year in South Carolina about Folks and Haley, but rumors are just rumors.

A post Tuesday afternoon at Folks’ blog says he was “pressured by impending media reports that would damage his family.” But if his spouse already knew the truth, what harm could Folks suffer from these “impending media reports”? A couple of wild guesses on my part:

  • Reckless as ever, Folks could have spoken to a reporter and been bluffed into saying something about Haley that — once it made news — she would know could only have come from him. So he panicked and issued the Monday statement.
  • It may be that Folks was in essence being blackmailed, threatened with disclosure of other damaging information about him — not the Haley rumors — and published his “admission” to forestall that disclosure.

The Tuesday afternoon post at Folks’ blog said “the story of the Folks-Haley affair was being pushed by several operatives with ties to the campaign of U.S. Rep. Gresham Barrett.” You have ask yourself: What other secrets could someone know about Folks “that would damage his family”? What else might he be threatened by?

Folks is now married (he says the Haley affair was before he was married) but, according to Dougherty, Folks was once reported to have seduced “nearly every female consultant in the state.” In fact, when he worked on Sanford’s gubernatorial campaign in 2002 — and was living in the basement of Sanford’s mansion on posh Sullivan’s Island — Folks was said to have been romantically involved with a TV reporter for a South Carolina station.

Does such a compulsive womanizer drop his philandering habit on his wedding day? Does a leopard change his spots?

Well, so much for wild guesses. One thing my source is sure about — Haley has offended the “old boys network” in South Carolina. In addition to Barrett, her opponents in the GOP gubernatorial primary include the state attorney general Henry McMaster — who obviously would have access to any law-enforcement records on Folks.

Politics is a dirty business everywhere, but especially rough in South Carolina, where the legendary GOP operative Lee Atwater learned his craft. Nikki Haley is paying a heavy price for taking on the “good old boys.”

Missing Grease Located

by Smitty

The USNA Class of ’13 may have been a bit dismayed today to discover that, not unlike the American electorate, they got the obelisk without the grease.

Yay, Metrosexuals!

Your class is weak.

It would be a gross breach of protocol not to heap abuse upon these lesser beings for their shortcomings, as expressed by the lack of confidence in them by the USNA Superintendent. Maybe if they had had a Real Plebe Year, there would be less coddling at the climax.

Yet the question remains: where did all that lard go?

Now It Can Be Told

Busloads of police-escorted grease were rumored to have been delivered to the Sestak residence in time for the greased pig immitation on the talking head shows.
That grease arrived in time to lubricate arguably the most famous graduate of the Class of ’74, who was scheduled for an appearance on Press the Meat. The interrogation would be rough, the questions abstract, the meanings of the words imprecise, but, drag coefficient significantly lowered, Sestak was ready to wiggle like a worm in compost:

MR. GREGORY: Yes or no, straightforward question. Were you, were you offered a job, and what was the job?
REP. SESTAK: I was offered a job, and I answered that.
MR. GREGORY: You said no, you wouldn’t take the job. Was it the secretary of the Navy?
REP. SESTAK: Right. And I also said, “Look, I’m getting into this…
MR. GREGORY: Was it the secretary of the Navy job?
REP. SESTAK: Anything that go — goes beyond that is others — for others to talk about.

Big Journalism concludes:

This controversy has been one of the rare cases since the onset of the Obama presidency in which the mainstream media is trying to get to the bottom of the story. The problem though, is no one is asking Joe Sestak the real (and legitimate) “When Did You Stop Beating Your Wife?” question:

Congressman Sestak, if you are telling the truth about the job offer and not being forthcoming, you are covering up a possible crime. If you are not telling the truth, it is a different issue: you are lying to your constituents and to all Americans. Which is it Congressman, Pennsylvania voters need to know — are you lying, or are you covering up a crime?

Here is another variation on the theme. Before joining the other two dubious knobs in the Senate who’ve gone through the Herndon Ceremony, John McCain and James Webb, how about recalling the Honor Concept and speaking plainly, Mr. Sestak?

Are the notions of not lying, cheating or stealing among your core values, sir, or are they merely youthful notions, bereft of nuance?

Update: Clips, via American Glob

Update II: Via Insty, The Daily Caller reports that the Justice Department’s reaction is about like this:

Update III: Again via Insty, Uber Pig isn’t thrilled with Sestak, either. My personal suspicion is that Snarlin’ Arlen might be playing the Mailman card, IYKWIMAITYD. We’re all happy to see anything that discomfits Whitehouse Bob Gibbs, but it takes a goodly old supply of evil like Specter’s to drive this story past the Gerald Walpin Threshold.

Update Iv: Gateway Pundit has a Hannity clip saying that the Sestak scandal could be Eyjafjallajökull for the Administration’s flight plans.

Interior Department Employees Were Getting High and Surfing Porn on the Job

Instead of, y’know, making sure we didn’t have an oil rig disaster:

Staff members at an agency that oversees offshore drilling accepted tickets to sports events, lunches and other gifts from oil and gas companies and used government computers to view pornography, according to an Interior Department report alleging a culture of cronyism between regulators and the industry.
In at least one case, an inspector for the Minerals Management Service admitted using crystal methamphetamine and said he might have been under the influence of the drug the next day at work, according to the report by the acting inspector general of the Interior Department.
The report cites a variety of violations of federal regulations and ethics rules at the agency’s Louisiana office. Previous inspector general investigations have focused on inappropriate behavior by the royalty-collection staff in the agency’s Denver office.

Excerpts from the official Inspector General’s report:

United States Department of the Interior
OFFICE OF INSPECTOR GENERAL
Washington, DC 20240
MAY 24 2010
Memorandum
MAY 24, 2010
To: Secretary Salazar
From: Mary L. Kendall
Acting Inspector General
Subject: Investigative Report -Island Operating Company, et. al.
With this memorandum, I am forwarding our investigative report entitled “Island Operating Company, et. al” which addresses a number of allegations that Minerals Management Service (MMS) employees at the Lake Charles District Office had accepted gifts from oil-and gas production companies.
At the outset, I want to note that all of the conduct chronicled in this report occurred prior to 2007 . . .
Unfortunately, given the events of April 20 of this year, this report had become anything but routine, and I feel compelled to release it now. We have, however, already received a preliminary response from MMS to this report.
Of greatest concern to me is the environment in which these inspectors operate particularly the ease with which they move between industry and government. While not included in our report, we discovered that the individuals involved in the fraternizing and gift exchange -both government and industry – have often known one another since childhood. Their relationships were formed well before they took their jobs with industry or government. . . .

APR 12. 2010
Memorandum To: S. Elizabeth Birnbaum
Director, Minerals Management Service
From: John E. Dupuy
Assistant Inspector General for Investigations
Subject: Report of Investigation -Island Operating Company et al. Case No. PI-GA-09-0102-I
. . . During our investigation, a number ofMMS employees at the Lake Charles District office admitted to attending sporting events prior to 2007 in which oil and gas production companies sponsored teams, as well as receiving lunches and accepting gifts. Through numerous interviews, we found a culture where the acceptance of gifts from oil and gas companies were widespread throughout that office . . ..
Two employees at the Lake Charles office also admitted to using illegal drugs during their employment at MMS. We found that many of the inspectors had e-mails that contained inappropriate humor and pornography on their government computers. . . .

Illegal Drug Use
In addition to providing information about the Peach Bowl trip, the confidential source claimed that an MMS inspector had used drugs, including crystal methamphetamine. The source claimed to have heard that this inspector might have used these drugs offshore on the platforms.
An MMS clerical employee told investigators that she began using cocaine and methamphetamine with an inspector when she started working at MMS approximately 2 years ago. According to the clerical employee, the inspector recently told her that he had not used crystal methamphetamine in the past 3 or 4 months. While the clerical employee said she had no knowledge of the inspector’s use of drugs while at work, she said that in the past, he had used crystal methamphetamine the night prior to coming to work at MMS. During his interview, the MMS inspector initially denied using crystal methamphetamine, but he later admitted to it. He claimed that the last time he used crystal methamphetamine was the weekend of the 2009 Super Bowl, in February. He explained that he had never possessed or used crystal methamphetamine while at work but admitted that he might have been under the influence of the drug at work after using it the day before.

Inappropriate Use of Government E-Mail
The confidential source also informed us that some of the MMS Lake Charles inspectors had pornography or other improper materials saved on their MMS computers.
Federal and department regulations prohibit the use of government office equipment for activities that are illegal, inappropriate, or offensive to coworkers or the public. This includes the use of e-mail to either send or receive sexually explicit or discriminatory material, gambling, or communications that ridicule others on the basis of race, creed, religion, color, gender, disability, age, national origin, or sexual orientation.
We reviewed the e-mail accounts of MMS employees at the Lake Charles and New Orleans offices from 2005 to 2009. We found numerous instances of pornography and other inappropriate material on the e-mail accounts of 13 employees, six of whom have resigned. We specifically discovered 314 instances where the seven remaining employees received or forwarded pornographic images and links to Internet websites containing pornographic videos to other federal employees and individuals outside of the office using their government e-mail accounts.
