They Told Glenn Reynolds …

. . . that if he voted for John McCain, the Internal Revenue Service would go after the president’s political enemies — and they were right!

Last night the IRS put a levy on my father’s bank account and zeroed it out. They got the money before I could pay any bills. My father is a federal retiree  and receives his retirement annuity and Social Security payments by direct deposit at the beginning of the month. . . .

Conservative Lesbian Cynthia Yockey needs your help. How bad is her emergency? I just hit her tip jar for $20 myself.

UPDATE: I learned of Cynthia’s crisis because of a post by Dan Collins at The Conservatory that pinged a post of mine he linked:

Jeff’s having his fall fundraiser, Stacy’s trying to get out to Las Vegas with Smitty and Wombat, The Anchoress is holding her fundraiser. Or as Joy points out, we’re still looking for our first contribution to this site,

Which is to say, everybody’s in dire straits. The crisis is universal and all-encompassing for the conservative blogosphere while — just to cite one example — Tim Pawlenty’s presidential campaign raised $4.4 million (as of the end of June). Here was a complete loser, a guy who lost all three debates he was in, bet everything on Iowa, lost the Ames Straw Poll to Michele Bachmann, then quit and endorsed Mitt Romney.

A stunning example of utter worthlessness, in other words, yet T-Paw raised $4.4 million in slightly more than three months. Meanwhile, conservative bloggers are hustling and scraping for nickels and dimes. There is something disastrously wrong with that, and it depresses me when a friend like Cynthia is overwhelmed by a sudden financial crisis like this, yet there is nothing to do now but to urge you to give $10, $20, $50 or $100 to help her out in the present emergency.

And spit on the ground every time you hear the name “Pawlenty.”

‘By Any Means Necessary’

“Willow Palin is a 16 year old girl who, like all 16 year olds is going to make mistakes and say things she shouldn’t have. . . . Apparently, it’s only a ‘homophobic slur’ when it comes from the daughter of a conservative female leader. Make no mistake; this is all about destroying Sarah Palin by any means necessary.”
— Tammy Bruce, GOProud

Having begun to address the matter of Andrew Sullivan, let me turn to the important question of motive.

Why did Sully become so obsessed with destroying Sarah Palin that, within four days of her announcement as John McCain’s 2008 running mate, he posted nine times in regard to the Trig Truther rumors? Occam’s Razor directs us to the simplest answer: Pure politics.

What you see here is the chart of the Real Clear Politics poll average for the 2008 presidential campaign, showing that by Sept. 8, the McCain-Palin ticket was leading by 2.9 points — with the RCP average for the Republican ticket (48.3) on that date being the highest poll showing of McCain vs. Obama at any point during the entire campaign, even before either candidate had won his party’s nomination.

When Sarah Palin’s name was announced as the GOP vice-presidential candidate on Sept. 29, Andrew Sullivan saw what everyone saw: Here was a potential game-changer.

John McCain was the worst Republican presidential nominee since Gerald Ford. Old, short, bald and grumpy are not high on the list of characteristics any consultant would cherish a presidential candidate.

Sure, he had that Vietnam POW thing going for him, but (a) that was more than three decades ago, (b) the “Republican war-hero” factor hadn’t helped Bob Dole in ’96 or Bush Sr. in ’92, (c) Bush Jr. had mopped the floor with McCain in 2000, and (d) hey, did I mention old, short, bald and grumpy?

With one decision, however, McCain changed the calculus of the campaign. Everybody understood the dynamic: In defeating Hillary Clinton, Team Obama had alienated many independent women voters — and not a small number of loyal Democrats who continued to oppose Obama under the PUMA (“Party Unity, My Ass”) banner.

One of those PUMAs was my lesbian friend Cynthia Yockey. Her last hope as a feminist Democrat was that Obama would pick Hillary as his running mate. Instead, the nod went to Joe Biden and when McCain picked Palin — well, Sarah had Cynthia at “hello.”

And, mirable dictu, the same was true of the Republican Party’s conservative base, which had hitherto been less than enthusiastic. As I reported, Sarah Palin instantly became the “Sweetheart of the Heartland“:

LEBANON, Ohio — Janet Stefanopoulos drove 30 miles from Cincinnati to attend yesterday’s presidential campaign rally here, but it wasn’t the man at the top of the ticket that brought her out on a rainy Tuesday morning.
“I want to see Sarah Palin,” said Stefanopoulos, a retired nurse and staunch Republican who had favored Fred Thompson in the primaries. “I was a lukewarm McCain [supporter] until he picked her. I mean, I would have voted for him, but now I’m fired up. . . . She is what I would like my children to be.” . . .

Oh, yes, I remember the cheering crowd of thousands who turned out on that rainy Tuesday morning in Ohio:

Sarah Palin was a role model who inspired the dreams of millions and, by the week after the Republican convention, she had boosted the GOP ticket to a 10-point advantage among like voters in a Gallup poll.

Sarah Palin’s potential to change the dynamic of the 2008 campaign was, as I say, obvious from the moment her name was announced.  And so, for purely political reasons, Andrew Sullivan set out to destroy her.

“By Any Means Necessary.”

UPDATE: It’s those “bitter clingers,” you see, who are shooting up their TV sets in Wisconsin. But Jimmie Bise makes an important point here:

I mean, he could have gotten just as enraged had be seen any spoiled politician’s daughter who had wrangled her way into a position that she would never have earned save for her last name.

Hmmmmm. Who could he mean by that? Never mind. Fingers Malloy attempts an intervention:

Listen, this whole Bristol Palin on Dancing with the Stars thing – yeah we need to talk.

Does Dan Riehl Project Much?

by Smitty

Dan insists on driving for deeper irony in a reply to my post asking about the guilt card in support of Cynthia. He calls attention to the passage:

Think of it as sort of a dispensation for all Right wing homophobes. We will resume our guilt free fag hating again tomorrow; maybe we’ll even kick some sand at Andy Sullivan for good measure. Carry on.

I had hoped that when I mentioned “the wretched excess of a Fred Phelps” in my reply, the mail was answered on “guilt free fag hating”. Of the really cool people you know and admire, how many of them expend significant energy hating specific people? Even though Stacy McCain has essentially turned the balance of this blog into a Will Folks free-for-all, I’d fall well short of saying McCain affords Folks any proper ‘hatred’.
Dan titles his post “Is Smitty A Self-Loathing Homophobe?”, and then laments:

Alas, my life has come done to casting pearls before swine and Smitty, hackles, or no.

  • Might Dan be the one managing a self-loathing problem?
  • Is he calling me a pig?
  • Does he suffer from ZZ Top envy?

While I will go on record as suffering from facial foilage envy, I categorically deny problems with self-loathing, or fear of sexal orientation. The question is: can Dan Riehl effect a ‘top kill‘ on his ‘inner Sullivan’? Because really, all of these ‘junk shots’ could land an explorer in deep water. Over to you, Dan.

Was The Guilt Card Necessary, Dan?

by Smitty

There are some religions that thrive on guilt, Progressivism among them. It’s certainly crucial that we support bloggers when reality gets rough. However, Dan Riehl raises the hackles a bit:

Think of it as sort of a dispensation for all Right wing homophobes. We will resume our guilt free fag hating again tomorrow; maybe we’ll even kick some sand at Andy Sullivan for good measure. Carry on.

I, for one, support Cynthia out of regard for her wonderfulness as a person. A few points:

  • We wouldn’t be human if we didn’t have differences of opinion, sometimes stark. Too, Dan Riehl is applying nothing but his trademark abrasive humor here as an advertising tool here; he means to do good.
  • We can have opinions stated in a calm, positive manner without going to the wretched excess of a Fred Phelps. Aside: I’ve heard he’s a Calvinist, which, if true, would explain much.
  • It’s cheap and easy to employ, a la Phelps, major differences of opinion as an excuse not to love our neighbor as ourself. Cut that noise out.

Summarizing, don’t let my distraction with Dan distract you from offering support to a wonderful lady and blogger.

VIDEO: Carolina Sex God in TV Interview

Always reluctant to speak to the media about his shagadelic mojo, Will Folks gives an interview to WCBD-TV:

He rehashes the “protect my family” excuse, which has never made any sense at all. How would a media revelation of an affair be more hurtful to Folks’ family than his self-exposure? He reminds me of the skeezy husband whose wife has gone mysteriously missing, pretending in an interview with the local TV station to be all heartbroken about her disappearance. Then a few days later, you see him being perp-walked after they find his wife’s body in the woods.

Yesterday, Ace of Spades ended a post about the Folks-Haley saga with this:

Not complete proof, but you know what? I would start looking for another candidate, if I’m being honest.

No. As I’ve said, I don’t give a rip about who wins a South Carolina gubernatorial primary, but I don’t agree that Nikki Haley should be thrown under the bus because of something a washed-up political consultant says on his blog. That sets a very dangerous precendent. And conservative lesbian Cynthia Yockey says we must fight back against what she calls “this Axelrod tactic.”

Lesbian Elena Kagan Will Be Nominated by Obama; Gayest SCOTUS Evah!

Tonight, I’m reaping the Google traffic bonanza from “How Gay Is Elena Kagan?” (Short answer: Gayer than Rosie O’Donnell guest-hosting the Ellen DeGeneres show.) Now everybody’s Googling for America’s most famous stealth lesbian:

Kagan, 50, served as the Dean of Harvard Law Lesbian School from 2003 to 2009. Obama nominated her to serve in her current post as solicitor general early in 2009, and she won Senate confirmation by a vote of 61-31. She is the first woman lesbian to serve as solicitor general of the United States. . . .
Some liberal critics have said that Kagan’s views on executive power and the treatment of terrorist detainees are too conservative lesbian . . .

Obviously, some editing was required there. Does anyone care what I think of Elena Kagan’s judicial philosophy? No, but they’ll scour every corner of the Internet for “Elena Kagan lesbian” or “Elena Kagan gay,” and it’s been months since I’ve had a Google-bomb winner like that. (If you’re looking for “Elena Kagan nude” or “Elena Kagan sex video,” you’re pathetic and disgusting, but traffic is traffic.)

For some reason, while conservatives are mostly indifferent toward Kagan’s gayness, the Obama administration has acted as if it were a huge scandal, as conservative lesbian Cynthia Yockey explains:

Well, thank Gaia gays and lesbians can count on the left — the gay-lovin’, gay rights supportin’ left — to have their backs. So how are they taking the news? KA. FREAKING. BOOM! SHAME-A-PALOOZA! The White House announced that Kagan is straight and it is all Bush’s fault if anyone says otherwise. HuffPo has declared war on the “Republican whispering campaign.” Human Rights Campaign is decrying discussion of Kagan’s sexual orientation as being “straight out of the right-wing playbook.” . . .
Lesbians and gays are outnumbered on the left by other demographic groups that hate us and want us dead. . . . I believe it is these leftist anti-gay identity groups who are working hard to shift blame for a “whispering campaign” onto conservatives and Republicans.

The purpose of the Kagan “whispering campaign” blame game is the same as the Tea Party “racism” smears: To convince Americans (gay, straight, black, white, whatever) that conservatives are dangerous, irrational bigots. As it becomes starkly apparent that Democrats are incompetent to cope with the nation’s economic and national-security problems, the Left has increasingly resorted to defamation and demonization of their political opponents. It’s the only argument they’ve got.

Beyond that, if you want serious discussion of the Elena Kagan nomination, try Legal Insurrection, Michelle Malkin, Tammy Bruce, Weasel Zippers or The Lonely Conservative. Legal analysis isn’t my specialty. I’m just a blogger trying to make a buck.

ELENA KAGAN IS TOTALLY GAY!

Don’t hate me for being a capitalist.

UPDATE: Hands off my Google-bomb, Donald Douglas!

UPDATE II: Bob Belvedere and Da Tech Guy are not ashamed to covet the lucrative Google-bomb.

UPDATE III: More non-rumors from Cliff at Another Black Conservative and from Jules Crittenden.

Meanwhile, in the comments below, Jennifer from A Conservative Shemale seems offended by my sense of humor. Although National Offend a Feminist Week ended yesterday, permit me to wonder hypothetically whether Jennifer would be offended or flattered if I replied, “Run along and get me a cup of coffee, sweetheart.”

Being oppressed by the patriarchy = acceptance?

CPAC 2010: Bloggerazzi Photopalooza!

“It’s all a blur,” Andrew Breitbart said to me in a phone conversation Monday, as we discussed events at CPAC 2010 — the biggest ever and, most attendees agreed, the best. The “blur” effect that Breitbart described is much like the experience of campaign coverage — you go, go, go day after day, with maybe four hours sleep night after night. Between the sleep deprivation and meeting so many people, you lose track of exactly who is who and what happened when.

When CPAC is over, you go through your pockets and find business cards for people you obviously must have met but whose names don’t match up with a face in your fatigue-scorched memory. And when you return to CPAC next year, you’ll be walking through the hotel and pass someone who looks vaguely familiar. You’ll say, “Hey, I know you.” And the other person will say, “Yeah, I think so, but I can’t remember where we met.”

That conversation will continue until either:

  • A. Your memories click and you recall which event you met at the previous year, or
  • B. You give up, admitting that you both were probably too drunk at the time to remember.

This is why it’s important to keep a camera in your pocket at all times during CPAC. My little pink Kodak digital — the famous “Barbie Cam” — captures those faces I might otherwise forget and those incredible scenes that no one would believe were it not for the photographic record. So brace yourself and get ready to be amazed. Continue reading CPAC 2010: Bloggerazzi Photopalooza! →
