UPDATE: Just got off the phone with a source in Georgia. We’re now in the post-Oct. 15 period when campaigns must report major donations ($1,000 or more) within 48 hours. Ray McKinney’s about to report $12,000 in major donations in the past two days. Obviously, this is a key race, and every dollar counts. Maybe you can’t give $1,000, but how aboutgiving Ray $20? How about $50?
Remember what it was like in January 2010 when Massachusetts shocked the political world? It’s that time again. Sean Beilat is running against a Democrat incumbent who has been in government office for over 30 years. Sean is a businessman, Marine veteran, and young father, and he is running against an ethically-challenged liberal icon who opposed reform of Fannie & Freddiebefore the meltdown. That’s right, Sean Bielat is running against Barney Frank, and he needs your help to win. Please visit Sean’s website at www.seanbielat.org and follow him on Twitter.
And you know what this means. Ace of Spades is going to have to wait until at least Nov. 4 before he gets his robot. Ladies first.
My opponent, Sean Bielat, supports the reversal of Roe v. Wade. When asked by a reporter whether he would allow abortion in the case of rape or incest, he refused to answer. On a questionnaire by the Massachusetts Citizens for Life, he agreed with every position taken by that organization.
In other words, Barney believes that Bielat’s unapologetic pro-life stance is a political liability. OK, so let me ask this question: How many faithful Catholics in the 4th District?
How many of those Catholics have voted for Barney Frank in the past? How many Catholic voters in the 4th District know that Sean Bielat is Catholic, and that Barney Frank is sending out fundraising letters attacking Bielat for supporting the Catholic pro-life position?
Look, I remember the Scott Brown campaign. I remember how Martha Coakley lashed herself to the mast on the pro-abortion position. And I remember talking to Catholic Democrats — including elected Democratic public officials — who told me they were voting for Scott Brown.
Some Republicans want to pretend that pro-life voters don’t matter, but in a place like Massachusetts, the Democrat who alienates Catholics on the abortion issue is taking a huge risk if he ever finds himself facing a strong Republican challenger with the courage to stand up and say, “I believe in the right to life.”
Do you really need polls to tell you that might hurt his chances for re-election? Yeah, I know it’s Massachusetts, but the economy’s in a ditch, and Barney’s up there sippin’ on a Slurpee, so to to speak.
There may be limits even to the credulity of Massachusetts liberals. This ad is now airing on Boston-area TV:
Charles Lollar held a press conference this afternoon in which he closed by saying that we’ve got “13 days and a wake-up” until Nov. 2. Indeed, the time to Election Day is now perilously short, dear friends.
VA-11 — which includes George Washington’s Mt. Vernon home — is still rated a “toss-up” by Real Clear Politics, and it’s going to take an all-out effort for the next 13 days to beat Connolly. In Maryland’s 5th District, meanwhile, beating Steny Hoyer might take a miracle. Or a Marine. And as one commenter pointed out earlier, Charles Lollar is known for his gung-ho attitude:
While reading Instapundit, I recognized the name, Charles Lollar, and had to check for myself. Yes, it is the same Charles that I knew from McEachern High School in Powder Springs, GA. Charles is one of those people that you never forget. It boils down to his infectious positivity, sense of humor and giant smile.
He definitely has a winning personality and it’s no wonder Lollar has got House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer playing defense in a supposedly “safe” Democrat district in Maryland.
You know the Democrats are in trouble when Steny Hoyer hits the airwaves in his campaign to retain his seat in Congress. Hoyer, whose seat was generously drawn for him by Maryland Senate President Mike Miller, usually uses his campaign largesse to benefit his Democratic Party colleagues with little thought of himself.
That changed due to an aggressive campaign by first-time candidate Charles Lollar, who is making inroads into previous Hoyer strongholds in Charles, Prince George’s and St. Mary’s counties.
Lollar, who served in the Marine Corps, is taking the same no-nonsense approach to going after the previously unassailable Hoyer that has earned the U.S. Marine Corps worldwide respect and, yes, a little bit of fear.
Steny, who famously bragged in past campaigns that he is a “tax, tax, spend, spend Democrat,” has, through the magic of political advertising, been transformed into a statesman whom the good people of the 5th congressional district of Maryland cannot do without. . . .
This is truly a heroic battle. The Lollar campaign is run entirely by volunteers, with strong Tea Party support, and an upset victory in MD-5 would shock the nation. Every “Dollar for Lollar” makes a difference. Please do all you can to help.
