Suspect Charged for Hit-and-Run That Killed Three Outside Chicago Gay Bar

We previously reported on this Aug. 14 incident in which three men — Donald Huey, 25, Devonta Vivetter, 27, and Jaylen Ausley, 23 — were fighting in the street outside the Jeffery Bar (“one of the oldest and longest continuously running Black gay bars in the nation”) at 5 a.m. when they were killed by a driver who disappeared after ditching his car three blocks away from the fatal scene. He is now behind bars:

Hours after Tavis Dunbar plowed a borrowed car into four men outside a Chicago gay bar, he asked a friend to help him with an alibi, prosecutors say.
But she refused to help, telling him he had killed two people.
“Actually,” Dunbar allegedly replied, “it’s three.”
Dunbar turned himself in to the police on Monday. He is now charged with three counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder for the horrifying crime, which unfolded outside Jeffery Pub, 7041 South Jeffery, early on August 14.
Prosecutor Danny Hanichak said Dunbar and the four victims were inside Jeffery Pub around 5 a.m., which was closing time. Moving outside, the four victims got into an argument, which spilled into the street, and a witness heard a man with braids say, “I got something for you, you motherf*ckers.”
That man then walked north on Jeffery toward the car Dunbar had borrowed, Hanichak said.
Video shows the headlights of his car turn on about a half-block north of the bar and then pull into the street. The car accelerated quickly, reaching 59 mph a half-second before the crash, Hanichak continued.
Three victims died at the scene: Devonta K. Vivetter, 27, Donald Huey, 25, and Jaylen Ausley, 23. The fourth man suffered leg injuries but survived.
Dunbar parked the car about three blocks away and started calling out for a friend who lived nearby.
With glass in his braids and blood on his hands, Dunbar went into the friend’s home and talked about an incident outside Jeffery Pub but did not tell the whole story, according to Hanichak. Dunbar asked the friend to drive him to a female friend’s home, and the man agreed.
There, Dunbar told the woman that he had been kicked out of the bar and totaled his cousin’s car after people started “coming at him,” but there is no evidence that anyone threatened Dunbar, Hanichak said.
The woman saw a video of the crash online later that day and immediately realized that Dunbar was responsible for the murders, according to Hanichak.
When Dunbar asked her to be an alibi witness, she refused because he had killed two people. Dunbar corrected her, Hanichak said. It was three people.
Analysis of the car Dunbar allegedly drove showed that its accelerator was depressed at 99%, and the brakes were never touched before impact.
When Dunbar turned himself in on Monday, he had cut his hair and “significantly” changed his appearance, Hanichak alleged.
Judge Susana Ortiz ordered Dunbar held without bail.

Did I mention Dunbar has twice served time for violent crimes?

According to Hanichak, Dunbar received a five-year prison sentence for beating a victim in the head with a baseball bat during a dispute over money in 2007. Five years later, Dunbar hit his 11-year-old brother in the head and body with a curtain rod and grabbed the boy by his neck, Hanichak said. Dunbar received two years for that crime.

Even in Chicago, I don’t think he’ll get off so lightly now.




 

Joe Biden Has Not Condemned This Atlanta ‘Hate Crime,’ For Some Reason

Atlanta police got 911 calls: Someone was spray-painting swastikas on the rainbow crosswalk in the predominantly gay Midtown district. The LGBTQ community, not only in Atlanta, but nationwide, was prepared to launch a 24/7 media circus over this atrocity, but then police released surveillance video of the suspect, and suddenly the activists got so quiet you could hear the crickets chirping. An arrest was made Friday:

Atlanta police have identified the man arrested last week after allegedly spray-painting swastikas on the city’s rainbow crosswalks that honor the gay community.
Police identified Jonah Sampson, 30, as the man who allegedly spray-painted swastikas on Atlanta’s Midtown rainbow crosswalks. Authorities believe he is also responsible for graffiti that was found on a monument at the Federal Reserve Building, Fox 5 reported.
Sampson was arrested in Atlanta on Friday outside his apartment after a roughly five-hour standoff with a SWAT team.
Jail records show Sampson is facing three charges of second degree criminal damage to property, one count of criminal trespass and a felony charge of interference with government property.
A spokesperson for the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office told Fox News Digital on Monday that Sampson’s bond was set to $77,500 for all charges. He remains in custody.
His arrest follows the discovery of one swastika that had been painted on the rainbow crosswalk last Wednesday, as well as a second swastika found on the crosswalk on Friday, which appeared next to an anti-gay slur. Police also discovered another swastika and other graffiti on the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta on Friday.

A five-hour standoff with a SWAT team because of graffiti? Gosh, if only we’d taken this approach with Antifa … but I digress. Why would Jonah Sampson commit these crimes? Could it be that he is, shall we say, a few fries short of a Happy Meal? Andy Ngo offers important clues:

Sampson’s feed consists almost entirely of screenshots of Apple’s note app, with the occasional image of a swastika.
Some of his posts reference a “master race” of black people, while other posts are religious in nature. He often targets Jehovah’s Witnesses for portraying biblical figures as white. In one post, he simply writes “EPHESIANS 6:12.”
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood,” the verse reads, “but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”
These words mirror many of the comments Sampson makes in his posts, calling out political leaders and sometimes even threatening them with violence.

People have gotten banned from social media for a helluva lot less than what Jonah Sampson was posting on Instagram. But the larger point is to ask the question, why hasn’t Joe Biden or any other national Democratic Party leader commented on this case? If this crime had been committed by a white person, somehow the media would have found a way to blame it on the Republican Party — the “climate of hate” incited by Trump, no doubt — but they never make the opposite inference, do they?

Of course, it’s foolish to see the actions of a lunatic as having a political significance for which public officials are responsible. The voices in the heads of schizophrenics can be consider non-partisan. Yet if an atrocity is committed by a lunatic who can, in some way, be construed as “right wing,” the media treat this as if the kook were on the payroll of the RNC.

Oh, and just imagine if the Atlanta SWAT squad had shot and killed Jonah Sampson during that five-hour standoff: He would have instantly become a martyred saint of the Black Lives Matter movement.

The media now interprets everything through political lenses, and so some atrocities become national headlines while others are just local crime stories. We should be grateful that Jonah Sampson surrendered peacefully to police, or we’d be watching Atlanta burn live on CNN.




 

Ex-NFL Player’s Brother Charged With Fatal Shooting of Youth Football Coach

Role models for America’s youth:

Former NFL defensive back Aqib Talib was in the middle of a fight at a youth football game in Texas on [Aug. 13] in which a coach was fatally shot, new video shows. And Tailb’s brother, Yaqub, turned himself in after a warrant was issued for his arrest.
On Tuesday, WFAA-TV in Dallas published a video that showed the moments before coach Mike Hickmon was killed. The station also reported that witnesses identified Aqib Talib in the footage as wearing a hat and white sneakers at a community park in Lancaster, a suburb south of Dallas, where the incident took place.
Multiple witnesses said Talib was the one who started the brawl, apparently due to being upset about referees, according to WFAA. The station reported Talib, 36, and his brother, Yaqub Salik Talib, 39, jointly coach a youth team for the North Dallas United Bobcats.
On Monday, Yaqub turned himself in after a murder warrant was issued for his arrest over the fatal shooting.
Heath Mays, a coach on the opposing football team, told WFAA that Aqib “ran across the field and ran over on our sideline and got in the ref’s face.”
“He threw the first punch,” Mays said, “and you see Mike [Hickmon] trying to defend himself.”
Police said in an arrest affidavit the incident began over an argument about the score of the game.
“The altercation became physical, leading to the suspect pulling out a firearm and shooting Mr. Hickmon multiple times,” the Lancaster Police Department said in a statement. “At this time no other injuries have been reported. After the shooting, the suspect fled the scene in an unidentified vehicle, taking the firearm with him.”

Killadelphia Update: Nearly 100 Shots Fired in Rec Center Drive-By Shooting

Police in Philadelphia have charged Tahmir Pinckney, 24, Marlon Spurell, 22, and Azyear Sutton-Walker, 22, with “attempted murder, conspiracy, aggravated assault, firearm carried without a license, and other offenses” after a drive-by shooting at a recreation center that left five people wounded:

The three men were apprehended by police after crashing a 2018 White Dodge Durango at Haverford Avenue and Farson Street. Police on Wednesday said they are still looking for an additional three suspects that escaped.
The shooting happened on the 300 block of North 57th Street around 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
Police say two people — a 16-year-old boy and a 21-year-old man — were shot in the head and are in critical condition.
The other three males — a 17-year-old, a 25-year-old, and a 22-year-old — were shot and are in stable condition.

Nearly 100 shots were fired in the incident and, while the Philadelphia Inquirer didn’t include mug shots of the suspects — it’s their “woke” policy — they did include this:

[Police Capt. John] Walker said investigators believe the shooting was related to an ongoing feud between groups of young men — with the shooters in the car on one side of the dispute, and the victims on the other. One of the victims shot Tuesday had also been shot several weeks ago, Walker said, and police were investigating any potential links between the two cases.
Walker said police found four guns at the scene of the shooting, and six in the crashed Durango — including two assault-style rifles, both of which were fired outside the rec center.
Walker said at least one of the guns recovered at 57th Street was legally owned by one of the shooting victims. Detectives were still investigating who might have possessed the other firearms found on the street.
At the time of the shooting, court records show, Spurell was free on bail in a drug case from April, when he was arrested at Philadelphia International Airport with a quantity of marijuana that prosecutors said indicated an intention to sell. A trial is scheduled for later this month.
Pinckney pleaded no contest to a drug charge in 2019 and was sentenced to a year of probation, court records show. . . .
As is the case in most shootings in Philadelphia, the accused gunmen and the victims in this week’s attack are young Black males, a fact that [shooting victim Collin] Lanham said causes him added grief.
Since 2015, more than 10,000 people have been shot in Philadelphia. Three out of four were Black males, and the median age for victims was 26, according to city crime data analyzed by The Inquirer.
More than 80% of homicide victims in Philadelphia are Black men, according to the data.
“It’s becoming normal, and it’s not something I think people should be normalizing,” said Lanham. “When you read about it you can brush it off. But when you actually see it go down, you can see there’s no unity in the Black community at all. We already have so many barriers to overcome, why tear each other down?”
To the shooters, he said: “Y’all had so much more life. You could have done so much more positive things with your life and your energy. You wasted it and it’s gone now. You don’t have a second chance to correct your wrongs.”

Like so much else in the “progressive” agenda, the soft-on-crime policies of Soros-backed District Attorney Larry Krasner are hurting the people whom Democrats imagine to be the beneficiaries. All this talk about “civil rights” and “social justice” won’t help you if you’re dead, and 346 people have already been murdered this year in Philadelphia, which is on pace to break the homicide record the city set last year.




 

Some Blunt Truth About ‘Hate’

Who is attacking Asians in San Francisco and other major cities? Everybody knows the perpetrators of these atrocities are black, but almost nobody in the media wants to talk about it, because the media — as I have discussed elsewhere — are committed to a one-sided portrayal of black people as victims, rather than perpetrators, of “hate.”

San Francisco police announced the arrest of an 18-year-old and three juveniles, ages 11, 13 and 14, in a particularly brutal attack this month on an elderly Asian woman, an attack that was captured on video:

Some thoughts from Darrell Owens, a black activist in Berkeley:

“Ching chong aye yah,” hurled one of the two Black kids to an elderly Asian woman on the 30-Stockon bus in San Francisco. I had kept quiet for a few minutes but I couldn’t keep quiet anymore.
“Hey, if these Chinese people called you a nigger you’d be mad,” I told the kid. “So don’t go saying ‘ching chong’ and shit. Leave them alone.”
“Nobody cares, though. Mind your business.”
“Just leave them alone,” I reiterated. “Respect yourself.”
This wouldn’t be the first time that I had witnessed these kind of anti-Asian slurs. Many of my friends growing up were Asians: Chinese, Tibetan, Laotian, Taiwanese, Cambodian and Punjabi. I knew the families of two Asian business owners growing up who watched out for me like their own kid.
Because I was close to them, I witnessed the instances of street racism they endured, and unfortunately most of it was by young Black boys. Young boys who would mostly mock how they spoke when they entered their stores. Afterwards those Asians would often turn to me and ask me why those Blacks acted like that. My friend from China was much less guarded than his American counterparts and would never cease to ask me: why are all the poor people here Black? Why are those loud kids Black? Why are the criminals Black? . . .

You can read the whole thing, but I think the main point is in the two words Owens said to that kid on the bus: “Respect yourself.”

There is some problem around self-respect and self-image highlighted by such behavior. Decent people do not wish to be seen as bullies. One of the reasons Trump has been such a controversial figure is that he is widely perceived as a bully, and people don’t like that. And this is related to the perception of Trump’s supporters as “racist,” because people think of these two phenomena — racism and bullying — as closely connected.

It doesn’t matter if we think these perceptions are unfair, just as it doesn’t matter if Darrell Owens thinks it is unfair to judge all black people by the misconduct of unruly teenagers. As individuals, we must be mindful of our own behavior if we wish to avoid negative perceptions about whatever group we belong to, and I believe this is what Owens had in mind when he told that kid on the bus, “Respect yourself.”

My son, Jefferson, left for law school this week, and before he left, I handed him a letter of paternal advice, including this:

Dress well. Try at least to wear a button-up shirt to class, rather than a T-shirt or sweatshirt. Wear a sports coat and slacks, rather than jeans. And pay attention to your grooming and manners. We may not be rich, but you should try to convey the impression that you are a properly-raised gentleman from a good family.

This may seem like a trivial matter, but it’s not. A future lawyer should not dress like a slob or act like a slob. People will judge you by your behavior — how you dress, how you talk, how you carry yourself — and in a competitive environment like law school, it behooves a young gentleman to mind his manners. You’re not trash, are you?

The first step to solving any social problem is to avoid being part of the problem. Crime and violence in the black community are harmful in many ways, including the harm done to the general reputation of black people, as a group. How much “racism” is simply a result of the kind of observations that led Owens’ friend from China to ask, “Why are all the poor people here Black? Why are those loud kids Black? Why are the criminals Black?” White people are powerless to affect this dynamic.

“Respect yourself” — it’s good advice for everyone.




 

Three Killed in ‘Intentional’ Attack Outside Black Gay Bar in Chicago

Chicago police officials said Monday that a high speed hit-and-run that killed three men outside a well-known South Shore gay bar appears to be an intentional attack.
Now some groups are calling for the triple fatal to be investigated as a hate crime.
The horrific crash, captured on video, shows a driver of a sedan racing down 7700 South Jeffery, slamming into several men in front of The Jeffrey Pub, a long-time and very popular gay bar. . . .
[T]he men were in the middle of the street fighting at 5 a.m. . . .
The three victims were identified as 25-year old Donald Huey, 27-year-old Devonta Vivetter and 23-year-old Jaylen Ausley, who was a recent University of Michigan graduate. . . .
A person inside the bar is suspected of leaving and mowing down the men on the street. That suspect is not in custody, but authorities have the vehicle they believe was used in the hit-and-run.
“It is not being investigated as a hate crime at this time. We don’t have any evidence to support that somebody was trying to harm these individuals because of their race, religion, etc. at this time, because we don’t have a suspect in custody and we don’t have any information that somebody stated that. So active ongoing investigation, and that can change once we get more witnesses and a suspect in. Everything can change based upon those statements,” said Brendan Deenihan, Chicago Police Chief of Detectives.
The I-Team spoke with Victoria Kirby York, the deputy executive director of the National Black Justice Coalition in Washington, which is calling for the incident to be investigated as an LGBTQ+ hate crime outside one of the oldest and longest continuously running Black gay bars in the nation.

Based on the limited information we now have, it seems highly likely that the person who ran over these black gay men was also a black gay man, perhaps angry over whatever incident caused the fight outside the bar, so by what definition is this a “hate crime”? Here’s the video:

NY State Police Mystified by Motive of Muslim Who Stabbed Salman Rushdie

The victim has been under an Iranian fatwa since 1989, but state police in New York don’t want to rush to conclusions:

Salman Rushdie, whose novel “The Satanic Verses” drew death threats from Iran’s leader in the 1980s, was stabbed in the neck and abdomen Friday by a man who rushed the stage as the author was about to give a lecture in western New York.
A bloodied Rushdie, 75, was flown to a hospital and underwent surgery. His agent, Andrew Wylie, said the writer was on a ventilator Friday evening, with a damaged liver, severed nerves in his arm and an eye he was likely to lose.
Police identified the attacker as Hadi Matar, 24, of Fairview, New Jersey. He was arrested at the scene and was awaiting arraignment. Matar was born a decade after “The Satanic Verses” was published. The motive for the attack was unclear, State Police Maj. Eugene Staniszewski said.

Are you f***ing kidding me with this? The New York Post:

Law enforcement sources told The Post that an initial investigation suggests Matar has made social media posts in support of Iran and its Revolutionary Guard, and in support of Shi’a extremism more broadly.

Where was Hadi Matar born? Where is his family from? Can we please stop pretending that he’s just a random “New Jersey man”?




 

Crazy People Are Dangerous

You may have forgotten Nicholas John Roske, or perhaps you never knew the name of the 26-year-old California man arrested for his failed plan to assassinate Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. I hadn’t paid much attention myself until I saw a “Dispatches From Weimar America” item by Ed Driscoll at Instapundit, linking to this bizarre headline:

What the hell did I just read? Sure, Democrats are all about “inclusion” and “diversity,” but where does this fit in the LGBTQ coalition? Is there something in the Democratic Party platform supporting the rights of “trans sissy slaves”? What is the Justice Department policy on this? How many “trans sissy slaves” are working in the White House?

New federal court filings reveal troubling information hidden in plain sight about 26-year-old Nicholas John Roske, the defendant identified as a “California man” by the Justice Department and charged in the Kavanaugh assassination plot, leading to a cache of perverse Reddit and Discord activity that pieces together the suspect’s apparent motive, gender identity, and unstable mental state. . . .
In this particular high-profile attempted murder case, an FBI special agent identified several Reddit accounts Roske operated in recent years — one of which the suspect used to embrace his transexual “femme” and submissive “sissy slave” persona, according to the search warrant applications filed in federal court.
Behind the Reddit username “AmericanNick,” Roske posted a series of “Craigslist personals” section-style wanted ads. A year ago, Roske penned a “[F4F]” (meaning female-for-female) Reddit post on the “r/GamerPals” subreddit, titled “Trans Gamer Girl Seeking Friend,” with the tag “GIRLS ONLY.” There, in the same forum, the suspect had introduced himself as his female alter-ego via another Reddit post: “Hi my name is Sophie.”
In a separate Reddit community created for Redditors in search of connecting with others in the Seattle area, Roske sought a female “Cuddle/Movie Buddy” as an “MtF [male-to-female]” college graduate “looking for a woman to cuddle and watch movies with.” Roske wrote in the post’s contents: “If this turns into making out, etc that’s cool, if not that’s cool too.” The suspect, listing himself as a “Trans Girl” in the city’s University District, struck a more erotic tone with his approach in another Reddit post soliciting “Another Girl for Play/Friendship” on a recurring basis. Roske, then 25, divulged that he has “many kinks and only a few limits” but would “enjoy some vanilla time” as well. “I have done a lot of research and have some experience being both a sub and a domme,” Roske typed. He was scouting for “play partners” in The Rainy City as someone who’s “pretty kinky” with “an ever expanding collection of toys and tools.” Roske proclaimed that he is sexually attracted to anyone “androgynous or feminine” who’s not “a cis[gender] man” and uses “she/her” pronouns.
Those are just the PG posts. Roske has frequented the fetish subreddit “r/SissyPersonals,” an X-rated “place for sissys and daddys to meet.” In an explicit Reddit post, Roske desired one such “Daddy to Have Complete Sexual Control Over Me.” Specifically, the suspect wanted to be told “how long I have to be in chastity for and what I am allowed to do when you let me out” along with tasks to do while “locked up,” whether this be the “number of times I have to edge myself, time riding a dildo, watching porn, all three or more!” Roske asked Redditors to private message “if you want me as your sexual toy to frustrate, humiliate, and control.”

Just your typical young Joe Biden voter — one who was so upset about “abortion rights” that he (or “she”) wanted to assassinate a Supreme Court justice. And what’s the moral of this story?
