‘A Daily Barrage of Sexually Based Comments and Unsuitable Conduct’

An accurate description of the Ace of Spades HQ Lifestyle? Perhaps, but it is also a complaint in a Hollywood lawsuit:

A former background actress on CBS’ The Mentalist has sued producer Warner Bros. Television and its casting service claiming her role was reduced and eventually eliminated when she complained about a daily barrage of sexually charged comments directed at her by a fellow employee.
Shanelle Howard, who says she has performed as a stand-in and background actress on the hit Simon Baker procedural drama since it launched in 2008, filed suit Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court against WBTV; the fellow employee, Lonnie Moore; and GEP Cencast, the casting agency that handles background actors on the show. Howard says she had been a GEP employee since 2001.
The actress claims Moore subjected her to “a daily barrage of sexually based comments and unsuitable conduct” while working on the show, including statements such as “I’m married but that doesn’t mean we can’t have some fun,” “Are you wearing thongs today or nothing at all?” and “It’s just sex; stop being so uptight and give me some.” . . .
She claims she complained to superiors in October and was told she had done the right thing by coming forward. But she almost immediately began receiving a cold shoulder from other actors, she claims, and was subjected to retaliatory and confrontational conduct.
Her work declined from five days per week to an average of two days a week, according to the suit, and in late November, Howard says she had a meeting with Warner Bros. attorney Patty Mayer during which she was told the harassment claim had been investigated and the matter was closed. By late April/early May, Howard claims she was no longer being called to work on The Mentalist and was not being offered any other work by GEP.

The question is, why would they retaliate against Howard for reporting her problem with Moore? Do we have the full story here? Was there more to it than this? Either (a) Warner Brothers is in a heap of trouble or (b) the other half of the story is very interesting.

Layoffs Hit Village Voice, ‘Tonight’ Show

It is reported that the Village Voice has laid off three staff writers and reduced a senior editor to part-time status. And there are also reports of about 20 layoffs at NBC’s Tonight show:

Leno is paid approximately $30 million. He last reupped his contract in 2010 after reclaiming the Tonight Show from Conan O’Brien. The show currently employs between 150 and 200 people, according to a network source. . . .
Meanwhile, the program’s weekly budget will be cut from $2.3 million — the amount allotted for Leno’s primetime show that carried over when he took the Tonight reigns from O’Brien — to around $1.7 million, back near where it was during the host’s first late-night run, the Los Angeles Times reports. The paper notes that Leno is taking a sizable pay cut in the process.

I’m sure Mitt Romney will be blamed for this, somehow.

Reality TV Star Dies Surreal Death

Joey Kovar became a “star” (as stardom is measured nowadays) on the 2008 season of MTV’s Real World and subsequently appeared in the 2010 season of Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.

Kovar died Friday at age 29 after ingesting cocaine, alcohol and Viagra, according to TMZ.

Viagra? What kind of 29-year-old needs Viagra? Perhaps the kind of 29-year-old who becomes famous for being famous, without ever demonstrating any actual ability or talent.

While gay-baiting Paul Ryan, Maher also engages in racial stereotyping of President Obama:

“In many ways — especially for progressives — [Obama] is too white for them. He plays golf, he’s too cozy with bankers. But when it comes to knowing how to fight, he’s black” — referring to the tough campaign Obama is running against the Republicans.

Twitchy points out that this isn’t the first time Maher has used the “thug” stereotype of blacks in talking about Obama. May 2010:

“I thought when we elected a black president, we were going to get a black president. You know, this [BP oil spill] is where I want a real black president. I want him in a meeting with the BP CEOs, you know, where he lifts up his shirt where you can see the gun in his pants. That’s — (in black man voice) we’ve got a ‘motherfu**ing problem here?’ Shoot somebody in the foot.”

Permit me to say that, as offensive as Maher’s invocation of the violent black thug stereotype might be, I am equally offended by the stereotype of whites as effete golf-players who are “cozy with bankers.” A very narrow and insular world exists inside Maher’s mind — not only is there no law-abiding black middle class, but there is no white working class. Black people are all inner-city ghetto thugs and whites are all overprivileged suburbanites. Chris Barron of GOProud Tweets:

@BillMaher just remember gay-baiting is always totally cool if you are a liberal and always reprehensible if you aren’t.

You can never accuse liberals of having no standards. In fact, they have two standards: One for them, and one for everybody else.
