Gov. Pete DuPont Steps Up To The Plate

A late night dose of righteousness from The Libertarian Republican.
Gov. Pete DuPont in the WSJ, emphasis mine:
So last week I attended two O’Donnell-Coons debates and saw a campaign that could determine which party will be in the Senate majority. Mr. Coons has been elected three times to New Castle County office; Ms. O’Donnell has not won an election, though this is her third Senate run. But she has raised more campaign money–$3.8 million to his $1.3 million in their Sept. 30 reports. He is a real liberal, and she is a real conservative. President Obama came to town for Mr. Coons on Friday, and it seems likely Sarah Palin will likely be here for Ms. O’Donnell at the end of October, just before the election.
The debates showed that public policy positions of the two candidates are real, substantive and very different. The University of Delaware debate was run by CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, who said when it ended that Ms. O’Donnell was the overall winner because “she didn’t come across as just a weirdo or anything like that.”
And, in closing:
“On Election Day the question is: Who will help correct the negative policies that have hurt our nation over the past few years? One of the candidates [Democrat Chris Coons] supports almost all of them; the other [Christine O’Donnell] favors policies that would make us more successful in the future. Two weeks from now we have avery important election in America’s First State that could change the direction of our country.”
The question will become whether this endorsement overrides Castle’s sour grapes.
Update: Great roundup of Christine O’Donnell quotes at Hot Air.

Klavan Explains Our Political Situation. A Byzantine Möbius Strip Drawn By Escher, If You Will

Of course, Klavan was really re-iterating material explored by Dan Riehl back in his relatively slender pop days:
Jim Moran Knees All Service Members In The Groin. A Hidden Message, Though?

RetireJimMoran.com notes the obvious cheap shot at the military in this two-week old clip:
What [Republicans] do is that they find candidates – usually stealth candidates – that haven’t been in office, haven’t served or performed any kind of public service. My opponent is typical.
The obvious slam here is the attack on service to the public in the military as somehow not being public service.
However, consider the audience. This is the Arlington County Democratic Committee. The audience in VA-8 isn’t just your garden variety Democrat. Without going too far on a limb, this ACDC likely has an abnormally high representation of Federal bureaucrats and lobbyists. The faceless, unelected, mostly unaccountable twerps who, termite-like, gnaw at the foundations of our liberty.
After denigrating 24 years of honorable military service in the first half, the second half of the clip is more interesting:
And of course, for 24 years, he’s taken a government check because, frankly, the military still is part of the Federal government, uh, and, yet, his principle platform is to cut government spending.
What is the implication here, Moran? That an Army Colonel was on the dole for two and a half decades, and is somehow biting the hand that feeds? Showing ingratitude toward his Ruling Class elite betters, i.e. you? Should Patrick Murray have simply taken a job with one of PMA’s clients, and got on the ‘beltway bandit’ gravy train? Would that have made his interest in supporting and defending the Constitution of the United States less odious to you, assuming proper campaign contributions?
Jim Moran acts like a status quo fat cat. The sort of elite, aristocratic snob who, 235 years ago, would like have supported King George III against the American Revolution. The kind of dead wood Democrat who needs to go on 02 November. The kind of patronage-loving upper class boob who supports every atrocious, economy-wrecking policy that the Gnomes of Capitol Hill crank out by the ream.
Tying Moran’s broad way to destruction with his audience, ACDC, we’ll end this rant with a video about where the ideas of Moran, Nancy Pelosi, and this Administration will lead this country, if we don’t elect leaders like Patrick Murray and retire Jim Moran:
PATRICK MURRAY for U.S. CONGRESS
p.s.: Why is Jim Moran labeling Patrick Murray a ‘Stealth Candidate’? Three reasons: fear, fear, and fear.

VIDEO: Do the Barney Shuffle!

It’s the dance sensation that’s sweeping the nation!
The New York Times did a feature on Ladd Ehlinger Jr. (“a periwinkle gray T-shirt the color of his eyes”? Dude, I told you that chick was hot for you) recognition that is way overdue, as it’s been nearly a year since I declared: “Clearly, this man is destined for greatness.”
Also, I think somebody’s building him a freakin’ robot.

Maybe Bristol Palin Will Teach Him to Dance
UPDATE: Da Tech Guy has behind-the-scenes video clips where you can hear Ladd laughing himself silly over the dancer Kira’s brilliant moves. Ace was also on the scene for the shoot, and a big thank-you to Andy at AOSHQ and to John LaRosa for making the Ladd/Bielat connection happen.
Sean Bielat: ‘Hey, Thanks. I Guess You Want Me To Build You a Robot, Too?’

Barney Frank must be so disappointed. He did his darnedest to try to win Sarah Palin’s endorsement, but . . .
Remember what it was like in January 2010 when Massachusetts shocked the political world? It’s that time again. Sean Beilat is running against a Democrat incumbent who has been in government office for over 30 years. Sean is a businessman, Marine veteran, and young father, and he is running against an ethically-challenged liberal icon who opposed reform of Fannie & Freddie before the meltdown. That’s right, Sean Bielat is running against Barney Frank, and he needs your help to win. Please visit Sean’s website at www.seanbielat.org and follow him on Twitter.
And you know what this means. Ace of Spades is going to have to wait until at least Nov. 4 before he gets his robot. Ladies first.

Barney Frank Makes Me Nervous
Posted on | October 21, 2010 | 7 Comments
“[In March 1987], the ABCC [Alien Border Control Committee] had its first notable success. The CIA tipped off the FBI to a group of suspected Palestinian terrorists in Los Angeles. The Bureau arrested eight men. But instead of being lauded, the Bureau and the Agency came under harsh attack from civil liberties groups who argued that the ABCC should be banned from using any information the CIA gained from the government’s routine processing of visa requests. Congressman Barney Frank, the Massachusetts Democrat who was a strong advocate of protecting civil liberties, led a successful effort to amend the Immigration and Nationality Acts so that membership in a terrorist group was no longer sufficient to deny a visa. Under Frank’s amendment, which seems unthinkable post-9/11, a visa could only be denied if the government could prove that the applicant had committed an act of terrorism. Rendered toothless by the Frank amendment, the Reagan administration had virtually no way to block entry visas even when there was information linking the individuals to terrorist groups.”
— Gerald Posner, Why America Slept, pp. 16-17
Perhaps now you understand why, when I get on a plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are wearing “Re-Elect Barney Frank” T-shirts and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Democrats, I get worried. I get nervous.
By the way, I’m available for public radio appearances. Also weddings, birthday parties and Bar Mitzvahs.

Nikki Haley Update: Good Fight Worthwhile
Posted on | October 21, 2010 | 12 Comments

Jesse Hathaway offers an excellent overview of one of the more sordid examples of Lefty character assassination this campaign season. If it isn’t Sarah Palin it’s Nikki Haley, or Sharron Angle, or Christine O’Donnell, or Carly Fiorina, or Meg Whitman. Thankfully free of a suspicious nature, I’m somehow capable of avoiding the conclusion that there is a streak of misogyny on the Left. Oh, these lying eyes of mine.
But back to Jesse’s story, where he concludes:
Palmetto State politics may be corrupt, but fresh, outsider candidates such as Haley seek to change that, and it appears that the War on Nikki Haley will be for naught.
Noted New York Times blogger and former sports statistician Nate Silver has run 100,000 separate Monte Carlo simulations, each with “random variation in local and national [environmental effects],” and has come to the conclusion that Haley has a 91.1 percent chance of winning in November. Silver’s analyses are considered the gold standard in political circles, and his predictions rarely miss.
The War on Nikki Haley is nothing more than the death throes of a moribund, elitist ruling class of politicos.
Perhaps Jesse is overly optimistic here. He is, after all, young. Yeah, we may chop back the current crop of moribund elitists, but what really matters will be the attention afforded by the common voters going down the road. BHO was quite correct to point out that sunlight is a great disinfectant. However, it’s you and me that have to be that shining sun on the hill. Otherwise, these elitists will beat us down every time, often in the name of lifting us up, or some other folk tale.
Aside: could Jim Clyburn be in trouble?
