‘F–k Trump! F–k White People’ Suspects Denied Bail in Chicago Torture Case

Posted on | January 9, 2017 | Comments Off on ‘F–k Trump! F–k White People’ Suspects Denied Bail in Chicago Torture Case

Left to right: Brittany Covington, Tesfaye Cooper, Jordan Hill, Tanishia Covington.

Americans were shocked last week when video was livestreamed on Facebook of four black people torturing a young white man they are accused of kidnapping. A judge on Friday denied bail to the suspects:

A judge rebuked four black people accused of beating a mentally disabled white man and broadcasting the attack on Facebook, sternly asking, “Where was your sense of decency?” before denying their attorneys’ pleas to set bail so they might be released from jail.
“I find each of you a danger to yourself and society,” Cook County Circuit Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesil said . . .
The beating was captured on cellphone video by one of the assailants and has since been viewed millions of times on social media. The footage shows the suspects taunting the victim with profanities against white people and President-elect Donald Trump.
Prosecutors offered new details of the assault, explaining that one of the suspects demanded $300 from the mother of the victim, who is schizophrenic and has attention-deficit disorder. They also said the beating started in a van when the same attacker became angry that the mother had contacted him asking that her son be allowed to come home.
A prosecutor told the judge that the suspects forced the victim to drink toilet water, kiss the floor and then allegedly stuffed a sock into his mouth and taped it shut as they bound his hands with a belt.
The four are charged with two counts of committing a hate crime — one because of the victim’s race and the other because of his mental disabilities.
On the video, the male suspects use knives to cut the victim’s hair and his sweatshirt. One of the females can be seen laughing. A female also laughs as she punches the victim. . . .
The four suspects were identified as Brittany Covington and Tesfaye Cooper, both of Chicago, and Jordan Hill, of suburban Carpentersville. All are 18. A fourth suspect was identified as Covington’s 24-year-old sister, Tanishia Covington, also of Chicago. . . .
All four have experienced brushes with the law, some for serious and violent crimes.
Hill, for example, was arrested as a juvenile in 2015 on allegations of armed robbery, possession of a stolen vehicle and residential burglary. Chicago police said they did not know the disposition of those arrests by suburban officers.
Tanishia Covington was arrested in 2007 on attempted armed robbery and aggravated battery charges. Police records do not show any convictions as a juvenile. As an adult, she was arrested on charges of battery and aggravated assault, but those charges were dropped.

The victim’s aunt, Janet Grant, told the Daily Mail that her nephew knew Jordan Hill from school: “They went to school together, they both had problems. He adores Jordan. I don’t know Jordan but [the victim] really liked him. It’s one thing if they didn’t know each other but [the victim] idolized him. . . . His mom didn’t like him hanging out but [he] would say, ‘that’s my friend, that’s my friend.’ He looked up to Jordan.”

Berkeley Student Activist Pablo Gomez Charged With Homicide, Stabbing

Posted on | January 9, 2017 | 3 Comments

From Chuck Johnson’s GotNews.com:

Pablo Gomez, Jr., the first murder suspect of 2017 in the city of Berkeley, California, is a transsexual or “queer”, pro-Palestine, #BlackLivesMatter-supporting UC Berkeley student and “social justice warrior” (SJW), who is apparently studying “Chicanx/Latinx Studies.”

Local news site Berkeleyside edited its story after a friend of the suspect contacted the editors to say Gomez uses “they/them” pronouns.

Gomez had been an activist with Alliance for Climate Education, but the group locked access to their pages about his activism after he was charged with stabbing a woman and murdering an unidentified person:

A suspect in a Berkeley homicide on Friday is in custody, police said Saturday.
A watch commander with Berkeley police received a call at about 1:30 p.m. Saturday from Burbank police who said 24-year-old North Hollywood resident Pablo Gomez Jr. was in custody.
Gomez is the primary suspect in the homicide and also a stabbing on the same day, according to police.
At about 11:42 a.m. Friday, police responded to a call about a stabbing in the 2600 block of Ridge Road in Berkeley.
Upon arrival, officers found a woman seriously wounded, as well as the person who called police on her behalf, police said.
Officers provided medical attention until the Berkeley Fire Department arrived and transported her to a hospital, where she is receiving treatment and was listed in stable condition Friday night.
During the investigation, officers were led to an address in the 2400 block of Ashby Avenue.
According to police, evidence at the scene clearly indicated a violent crime had occurred there.
Much later, the body of an unidentified person was discovered, police said.
Police have not released the name of the homicide victim.

Gomez began blogging at the site Tumblr.com in 2011, but archives for his blog show he has been inactive on Tumblr since March. In 2016, Gomez’s activism seemed to shift toward supporting “Black Lives Matter.” In July, he posted a rant to Facebook about how “infuriating” it is that people were “not getting” what he called “a legacy of anti-Blackness” in America, the causes of which he listed as “colonialism,” “cisheteropatriarchy,” “capitalism” and “imperialism,” among others.

That message was posted the same day Gomez posted this:

I am currently sitting on the Oakland Freeway with thousands of folks who are committed to staying here until the Mayor and Police Commissioner join us. Our demands at this moment stand to disarm the police and work to abolish our current police structure. Our demands will not stop at abolishing the police. We will transform every structure that is posioned [sic] by a toxic whiteness that threatens Black lives every day. No one is free until we’re all free.

Police in Berkeley have said nothing about the motive for the violent crimes with which the “social justice” activist Pablo Gomez Jr. is charged.

UPDATE: Police have not yet officially identified the victim in Friday’s murder, but it is reported that the young woman whom Gomez is accused of killing was Emilie Inman, who taught science to children at Sienna Ranch, an educational site about 15 miles east of Berkeley.

Ms. Inman majored in environmental studies at the University of California-Santa Cruz and believed “inspiring a healthy and sustainable connection to self and the earth through education is her life path.”

Democrat @MJB_SF Hates White Men, Denounces ‘Stupid People’ in Midwest

Posted on | January 8, 2017 | 2 Comments

The Midwest is a “s–thole” full of “stupid people,” a place where “no educated person wants to live,” according to Melinda Byerley, a Democrat who lives in San Francisco. In a Facebook post and a series of Twitter messages Saturday, Ms. Byerley described residents of the Midwest as “violent, racist, and/or misogynistic” people whose “towns have nothing going for them.” The reason”the best and brightest” don’t want to live in the Midwest is because they would have to “sacrifice tolerance and diversity to do so,” Ms. Byerley said.

The full text of Ms. Byerley’s anti-Midwest rant:

One thing middle america could do is to realize that no educated person wants to live in a s–thole with stupid people. Especially violent, racist, and/or misogynistic ones. When big corporations think about where to put call centers, factors [sic], development centers, etc, they also have to deal with the fact that those towns have nothing going for them. No infrastructure, just a few bars and a terrible school system.
So if you want jobs, clean up your act and make your town a place that people like us want to live in. Add fiber internet. Make it a point to elect a progressive city council and commit to not being bigots.
I guarantee many of us would like to live a more rural lifestyle, or at least a less urban one, but we won’t sacrifice tolerance or diversity to do so. We especially don’t want to live in states where the majority of residents are still voting for things that are against their own interests just because they don’t want brown people to thrive.
the midwestern towns that fix this first, will attract investment in droves. It’s not just tax breaks and fiber. Corporations have to deal with the fact that the best and brightest would rather scrape by in SF than life in a huge house somewhere if it meant dealing with bigots and backwards ideologies every day.

Ms. Byerley is herself a native of the Midwest, who graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1991 and later got an MBA from Cornell. Her Facebook profile shows Ms. Byerley was a member of the group “San Francisco for Hillary,” and her Twitter timeline includes numerous disparaging remarks directed toward white males.

Democrats supported the “Black Lives Matter” movement which incited race riots in Ferguson, Missouri, in Baltimore and in Charlotte, N.C. Democrats’ anti-white rhetoric alienated many voters during the 2016 campaign, and may have provoked violence last week in Chicago, where four black people kidnapped and tortured a white teenager and posted video to Facebook yelling “f–k Trump’ and “f–k white people.”

Exit polls show whites are a majority (71%) of the U.S. electorate and 57% voted for Trump. Despite evidence that their hateful rhetoric has damaged the Democrat Party, liberals like Ms. Byerley continue to promote messages that stigmatize white voters as “stupid people” who are “uneducated” and “racist” because they do not support Democrats.

It’s As Though The Left Is Neither Creative Nor Pro-Creative

Posted on | January 8, 2017 | Comments Off on It’s As Though The Left Is Neither Creative Nor Pro-Creative

by Smitty

Like an immune system gone mad, the Left can only attack the culture that begat it:

We wrote back in October about how people were mad that Hinton did not add explicitly LGBT characters to her writing, most of which she did in the 1960s and 70s. She now argues that pandering to a certain segment of readers in her writing would simply have made the novels worse.

Now, she’s being assailed again, this time for failing to adequately represent not only the LGBT world but also black characters. In response, Hinton tweeted out: “I am a heterosexual writer writing about heterosexual characters. Being attacked for being heterosexual.”

The future belongs to those who show up, and produce children to show up. In that sense, this madness is self-correcting.

FORT LAUDERDALE MASSACRE; UPDATE: 5 Dead, 8 Injured — Police

Posted on | January 6, 2017 | Comments Off on FORT LAUDERDALE MASSACRE; UPDATE: 5 Dead, 8 Injured — Police

UPDATE 6:30 p.m. ET: More details on the Fort Lauderdale shooter:

The gunman — wearing a Star Wars T-shirt — was taken into custody and has since been identified as 26-year-old Esteban Santiago.
Santiago flew into the airport from Anchorage, Alaska (with a layover in Minneapolis, St. Paul) on Delta flight 2182, and checked a gun for the flight. . . .
NBC News reports that Santiago had a history of mental problems, but had reportedly been getting treatment.
His most recent address was in Naples, but he lived in Anchorage from 2014 to 2016, where his girlfriend and child continue to live. He is also from New Jersey.
Santiago was a combat engineer in the Army National Guard, and served one year in Iraq before being honorably discharged last year, the Army Criminal Investigation Division confirmed. . . .
Sources also told ABC News that Santiago was contacted by the FBI after an employer back in Alaska raised concerns about certain things he had said. After that meeting, Santiago started getting treatment for his mental health issues. . . .
Court records in that state show he had a minor criminal record for traffic violations. He was also evicted by his landlord for failing to pay rent in February 2015.
Santiago was charged with fourth-degree assault and damage of property in January 2016, stemming from a domestic violence incident.

This is a mentally ill man with a history of petty crime and social problems — a kook, a misfit. There appears to be no political motive, which would mean that everyone who speculated otherwise was wrong.

UPDATE 7:30 p.m.: Did I speak too soon? CBS News:

According to the Associated Press, the Pentagon said he went AWOL several times as a specialist during a stint with the Alaska National Guard and was demoted to private first class. He was given a general discharge, which is different from an honorable discharge.
In November 2016, he walked into an FBI office in Anchorage claiming that he was being forced to fight for ISIS and was sent to a psychiatric hospital, officials revealed.
In 2011 or 2012, he was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations for child porn. Three weapons and a computer were seized, but there was not enough evidence to prosecute, according to law enforcement sources.

OK, (a) even if this guy was just a delusional kook, his delusion involved an Islamic terrorist organization, (b) that this guy had been on the FBI radar for two months, yet was still able to board a flight to Florida, is disturbing, and (c) the child pornography investigation five years ago suggests this guy had red flags all over him. How does someone’s problems bring them to the attention of three separate federal departments — Defense, Justice and Homeland Security — yet they’re still boarding a flight with firearms in their luggage? (Hat-tip: Pamela Geller.)

* * * * *

* * * PREVIOUSLY (1:46 p.m. ET) * * *

At least nine people are reported dead after a gunman went on a rampage:

A gunman is in custody after a deadly shooting at the Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport.
Sources tell NBC Miami that nine people have been shot and three people have died. . . .
An airport spokesman said that the center of the incident was in the baggage claim area of Terminal 2.
Former White House press secretary to President George W. Bush, Ari Fleischer, was at the airport at the time and tweeted about the chaos Friday afternoon.
Just after 1pm, he wrote that ‘shots have been fired. Everyone is running’.

UPDATE 3 p.m. ET: According to Fox News, Florida Sen. Bill Nelson says the shooter’s name is Esteban Santiago, whose name was reportedly found on his military ID. No motive is yet known. The official death toll is five. There are now reports of a possible second gunman.

UPDATE 3:20 p.m. ET: NBC Miami affiliate WTVJ-TV reports:

A gunman opened fire at Fort Lauderdale / Hollywood International Airport Friday afternoon, killing at least five people and injuring eight others before being taken into custody, authorities said. More than an hour later, people were seen running across the tarmac and sheltering behind cars while police had their guns drawn.
Law enforcement sources identified the shooter as Esteban Santiago, a 26-year-old man born in New Jersey. Multiple sources told NBC News that he had a military ID on him. . . .
The Broward Sheriff’s Office said they received a call about the shooting around 12:55 p.m. Live video more than an hour after the attack showed people running across the tarmac between terminals while others took cover behind cars – while officials search for another possible shooter. Police were also seen running into a parking garage with guns drawn.
Police officers responded less than a minute after the shooting began, [witness Mark] Lea said. Once the shooter was out of bullets, “he was gunned down by police,” he said. . . .

It is important not to jump to conclusions about the motive for such incidents before we have actual facts we can rely on. When news is breaking, a “wait-and-see” posture is always best, no matter what our suspicions may be. One obvious element of suspicion in this shooting is that we know President-elect Donald Trump has a home in South Florida, and it is therefore possible that this gunman’s act had some political motive. However, we do not have any facts yet to support that speculation, and I mention this one possible theory simply to illustrate how easy it is to make such speculations. If the gunman had been named “Mohamad” or “Abdul,” obviously other theories would be a fair subject of speculation, whereas if his name was “Bubba Wayne” or “Billy Joe,” our guesses might lean another way. Yet we must wait for the facts before we can start claiming to know the why of this incident.

UPDATE 3:48 p.m. ET: Multiple news outlets are quoting a Facebook post by Broward County Commissioner Chip La Marca about the incident:

The shooter was a passenger on a Canadian flight with a checked gun. He claimed his bag and took the gun from baggage and went into the bathroom to load it. Came out shooting people in baggage claim. There were 13 total shot, 5 dead, 8 transported to hospital.

If this account is accurate, then it would appear that the gunman’s attack was premeditated, although evidence that the shooting was planned does not tell us anything about the shooter’s motive.
