On the Road Again

My wife has packed my bag, I’ve rented a car ($75 a day) and am now about to leave for Virginia’s 9th District, where Morgan Griffith is just one point ahead of Democrat Rick Boucher.
After VA-9? Well, I don’t know how far I’ll go. Depends on time and money. Please hit the tip jar, and thanks to everyone who’s already helped out with the Shoe Leather Fund.
Five more days until Nov. 2.

Of course, these kind of get-out-the-vote ads are intended to persuade clueless liberal college kids to vote, assuming that at least two-thirds of them will vote for Democrats. But it’s Alyssa Milano, and there’s no such thing as bad Alyssa Milano:

Blazing Cat Fur is being sued for, among other things, linking to that notorious hater Mark Steyn. The $500,000 lawsuit was filed by Richard Warman, a former member of the Canadian Human Rights Commission Canuckistani Gestapo.
Even Canadians recognize Warman as an especially vile creature:
[In March 2009] Tribunal Chair Edward Lustig condemned Warman – who holds himself out as a human rights activist – for his membership in neo-Nazi organizations and ripped into him for his frequent anti-Semitic and pro-Nazi rants. The Tribunal effectively accused Warman himself of breaking the law – pointing out that Warman’s online anti-Semitism could quite possibly expose Jews to even more hatred and contempt. That just happens to be the offence Warman claimed he was trying to enforce. And, in perhaps the most damaging finding, the Tribunal pointed out that Warman at first did not answer questions truthfully – effectively calling him an attempted perjurer.
Blazing Cat Fur is soliciting funds for his legal defense online and by mail:

While conservatives in Canuckistan are being sued for linking Mark Steyn, here in the United States, our president is meeting with creitnous anti-social subversive menaces — and I’m still. free to call them that, thank God.

My friend Stogie at Saberpoint is, alas, a victim of Californication:
The buzz is that California will be a hold out in this next Republican revolution — they will proudly and stubbornly be wrong once again. While Californians struggle with 22% unemployment, free soup kitchens and food banks, they will nevertheless vote for the party who made their poverty possible. My disgust for the California electorate knows no bounds; they are firmly, solidly and reflexively leftist.
Stogie blames the voters, but the worthlessness of the California GOP — which routinely asks voters to elect clueless Republican losers like Meg Whitman — is the true cause of this situation. Loyalty is not a one-way street, and California Republicans expect loyalty from grassroots conservatives who have been getting stabbed in the back by the state party for 20 years.
The by-now-routine spectacle of inept California Republican candidates publicly pissing all over the party’s conservative principles is not likely to persuade independent voters to vote Republican.
Remember that the geniuses who run the GOP once expected California voters to elect Arianna Huffington’s closeted gay husband to the United States Senate. Thank God he lost and please pray to God that, even in California, a majority of the electorate are not so stupid as to vote for an untrustworthy backstabber like Meg Whitman. She’s down by 10 points in the latest poll, and my only regret is that she isn’t losing by a much bigger margin.
UPDATE: Professor Donald Douglas adds his two cents to the verdict on the billionaire loser. It’s simple, really: Anybody who would pay Mike Murphy $90,000 a month deserves to lose.
DALE OGDEN for CALIFORNIA GOVERNOR
Because he’s not Jerry Brown, he’s not a billionaire
and he didn’t hire that useless loser Mike Murphy

Short answer: A lot fewer than they could have, if the NRCC had a freaking clue.
Really. Ace of Spades interrogates Jay Cost about the likelihood of Republican gains on the high side of 60, which I consider insanely optimistic, given the face-palming incompetence of the NRCC. But first the good news from Jay Cost:
Ohio is all but gone for the Democrats, including the swingiest of swing districts in Columbus. Michigan is a lost cause. So is liberal icon Russ Feingold in Wisconsin. Pennsylvania looks like it will go maybe +4-6 for Toomey and Corbett. All of these places voted for Obama, and all of them are basically gone.
And as Ace points in his inimitable way, there’s a poll showing Sean Bielat in a dead heat with Barney Frank. Yeah, it’s an internal Beilat campaign poll, but still: There’s a chance a Republican could beat Barney Frank, a possibility nobody dared dream of two years ago. There was also good news a couple days ago from The Hill:
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is making a last ditch effort to survive a GOP wave by blanketing the airwaves in more than 60 districts in the final week of the campaign.
According to FEC filings late Tuesday, the DCCC purchased $21.6 million worth of air time in 66 districts.
The ad buys represent the breadth of the GOP ‘s momentum. Among those 66 districts, many were once considered safe Democratic seats, including those held by Reps. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.), Gary Peters (D-Mich.), Bruce Braley (D-Iowa) and Raul Grijalva (D-Ariz.). Only three of the seats in which Democrats are advertising are held by Republicans.
Good news, yes, but also bad news: That’s $21.6 million of brutal ads accusing Republicans of rape, murder, arson and wanting to give tax cuts to greedy corporations that ship jobs to China.
And the National Republican Congressional Committee? They can’t do shit to reply. The NRCC’s got nothing. The DCCC out-raised the NRCC by $14 million this cycle, because the NRCC is run by clueless dingleberries under the chairmanship of Rep. Pete Sessions.
Pete Sessions should have been stripped of his chairmanship the day after Dede Scozzafava endorsed Bill Owens. If there were still any old-fashioned justice in the world, Pete Sessions would have been horsewhipped and stomped to death by the House Republican Caucus, his head carried through the streets atop a pike, and his mutilated headless corpse fed to dogs.
(Rarest sentence in the English language: “Gee, Stacy, why don’t you tell us how you really feel?”)
Because Pete Sessions was not fired, etc., conservatives with good sense stopped giving to the NRCC, which is staffed by half-wits who got their jobs because their Daddy was good friends with some GOP bigwig. Consider that, in Florida’s 24th District — a key pickup Republican opportunity against an extremely vulnerable Democrat — the primary was complicated by a candidate whose fundraising consultant was the wife of NRCC executive director Guy Harrison. Thankfully, that candidate lost the primary, but not before raising and spending more than $600,000 — Republican money wasted on an “insider” candidate who, had she won the primary, would have been unelectable.
Such stories could be told in district after district across the country. If Republicans gain 5o or 60 House seats on Tuesday, I’ll be happy. But they could have easily won 70 or 80, had the NRCC been run by intelligent and competent people instead of well-connected subnormals.
And please keep in mind the unthinkable: Despite all the encouraging poll numbers, the GOP may yet fall short on Election Day. If so, the public horsewhipping and death-stomping of Pete Sessions and the NRCC staff . . . well, that would make a heck of a story.
Meanwhile, my shot-in-the-dark gut-hunch guess of how many House seats the GOP will win is . . . . consulting the crystal ball here . . . let’s go with 49.
I’m lowballing it, because I figure there will be at least 10 races where it’s close enough for Democrats to steal.

Allowing the Federal government to control education remains wrongheaded.
The Smith Plan, which applies to both education and home ownership, is to add 49 more State banks, and let the several States figure it out. You can boot the DOE, Fannie & Freddie to boot.
Federalism: the Left can call it extremism all day long, but they can’t nullify the common sense factor.

Whatever Was at the Bottom of the Barrel, Chris Matthews Just Scraped It Off
Posted on | October 28, 2010 | 8 Comments
Geoffrey Dickens of Newsbusters nails Matthews for his disgusting Republicans-as-Brownshirts smear:
“Chris Matthews, on Wednesday’s Hardball . . . claimed the restraining of a MoveOn.org activist by a Rand Paul supporter reminded him of what “we saw from hoodlums in the thirties in another country I will not mention” and added: “I mean it isn’t far from what we saw in the thirties, where all of a sudden, political parties started showing up in uniform.” Matthews . . . even went on to claim physical attacks against political opponents was something that existed exclusively on one ideological side as he asserted that it was “right wing by its very nature.” . . .
Matthews went on to accuse Republicans of having “hire[d] armies of paramilitaries [to] stomp people.”
This is the exact opposite of truth.
Nobody hired Tim Profitt. He was a volunteer for the Rand Paul campaign. It was Lauren Valle who was hired, and by whom? MoveOn.org, which is trying (falsely) to claim that the GOP enjoys an unfair electoral advantage from an “unprecedented flood of corporate cash.”
Let someone, anyone, examine the “corporate cash” that helped elect the president who sent a thrill up Chris Matthews’ leg: Goldman Sachs $994,795, Citigroup Inc $701,290, JPMorgan $695,132 — go down the list a bit and you come to General Electric, $499,130.
Oh, yeah: General Electric, which stands to profit handsomely from Obama’s energy policies and porked up on stimulus cash. I guess if GE is getting taxpayer-subsidzed profits, they can afford to lose money paying Chris Matthews to do a cable TV show with fewer viewers than Alyssa Milano has Twitter followers.
And don’t lecture us, Mr. Matthews, about people who “hire armies” in politics. Why don’t you ask some of Hillary Clinton’s supporters how Obama’s goon squads cheated in every caucus from Iowa to Texas?
Let’s see: Black Panthers wielding nightsticks at polling places, Kenneth Gladney beaten by union thugs, Bill Rice’s finger bitten off by MoveOn protesters . . . Hey, if you really want to argue that political violence is “right wing by its very nature,” Mr. Matthews, we could point to the riots in France and Greece. And what about the May Day riots in Santa Cruz, Calif.? But I guess if it’s OK to hang around with terrorists, all bets are off.
Chris Matthews once again goes to show why it’s wrong to accuse liberals of not having standards. They’ve got exactly two standards — one for them, and one for everybody else.
