CWCID For NYT From AllahPundit?

by Smitty

The NYT engaged in respectable journalism and hammered Richard Blumenthal, the Connecticut AG, for attempting to assing himself off as having served in Vietnam.
AllahPundit updates his post to say:

Credit where credit is due: No doubt it pained the NYT to drop a bomb on one of the few surefire Democratic winners this November, but they dropped it anyway.

Why are we congratulating the NYT for doing the right thing? Should we as well give Blumenthal a medal for not firing a shot in a theater to which he apparently never deployed?

Update: Blumenthal backfires. I mean, he fires back. No, wait, he backs into a fire, and now his pants are aflame. That is, he is aflame from back to front, panting, with a fire in his belly, with love and admiration for Veterans and anyone else who will help keep his political torch from being extinguished.

Update II: Gateway Pundit has video. I blame Billy Joel for writing a song so poignant that we all felt like Vietnam veterans, even though I was barely a teen at the time it came out.

Update II: Dan Riehl reports that Blumenthal has something ‘seared in his memory’ that Blumenthal wishes was service.

BHO Can’t Nationalize The Oil Companies

by Smitty

Sure, it seems like nationalizing the oil companies is the next logical thing, but there remains a pressing question: who would he next demonize? Software hasn’t been demonized yet. While the propaganda value of demonizing an outfit with shallow pockets (though not as shallow as this blog) makes it unfit for other than a stop-gap, until a better known/funded target can be found, something like FreeBSD does come with a built in demon. Also, many of its users, while not a rich source of votes, do have libertarian leanings.

Is It OK For Virginia To Be Represented By Men Who Went To Work Dressed Like This?

by Smitty (h/t At The Point Of A Gun)

Why, yes; yes, it is.

I, for one, think we could balance the budget by having Scott Taylor on the panel at a Congressional hearing giving Eric Holder a Full Kinison, i.e.

“Islamic Extremism: say it! SAY IT!“

and selling tickets.

Maybe not, but it makes a fine thought experiment.

I guess that Bob McDonnell has endorsed the other GOP candidate, and Rigell seems a fine chap, but the notion of a Navy SEAL of Taylor’s caliber loose in Congress does the heart proud.

Hampton Roads, you don’t need me telling you what to do.

Miss USA Stripper Contest Scandal!

No sooner was Rima Fakih named Miss USA than Americans erupted in outrage. No, I’m not talking about Michelle Malkin and Debbie Schlussel. I’m talking about Miss Fakih’s sponsors in the “Stripper 101” contest:

The Web site for WKQI-FM (95.5) has photos of a dark-haired young woman they say is Rima Fakih of Dearborn, who was crowned Miss USA Sunday Night in Las Vegas, pole-dancing for a Mojo in the Morning “Stripper 101” contest in 2007.

Now, why would Miss Fakih try to conceal her history as a pole-dancing contestant, as if she were ashamed of the fine hometown folks at WKQI-FM? Isn’t that kind of hypocritical?

By contrast, Miss Oklahoma didn’t hide her views when asked about Arizona’s immigration laws. And Miss Oklahoma placed second in the Miss USA competition so . . .

Well, it would be just awful if Miss Pole-Dancer lost her title, don’t you agree?

It has been alleged that right-wingers are outraged by Rima Fakih’s winning the Miss USA crown because we are prejudiced against Arabs. In point of fact, I have a long record of praising Arab beauty queens, including the original “Gee Hottie,” 2006 Miss Egypt, Fawzi Mohamed:

PA-12: Gold Star Mom for Tim Burns

Just got off the phone with Angela Lash, outreach coordinator for Tim Burns, who tells me that Arizona “Gold Star Mom” Debbie Lee — whose Navy SEAL son was killed Iraq — has been going door-to-door campaigning with the Republican candidate in Pennsylvania’s 12th District.

“I was on the campaign trail this weekend with Tim Burns who is running for Murtha’s old seat,” Ms. Lee said in a statement. “He is running against Critz who worked with Murtha for years and was part of the back room deals and shady earmarks. . . . I was honored to fly from Arizona and campaign with Burns, a candidate who understands and will uphold the Constitution and who recognizes the sacrifices our troops make and will stand by them and their families. He brings hope and a freshness to the voters in PA.”

Ms. Lee and Navy SEAL Benjamin Smith presented Burns with a $5,000 check from the Moving America Forward PAC. Here is Ms. Lee speaking during a ceremony at the Johnstown War Memorial with Tim Burns:

That photo courtesy of Big Government’s Capitol Confidential, which is now reporting from the ground in PA-12:

We arrived in Washington, PA around 2:00 AM Saturday morning and after a few hours of much needed sleep we made our way to the Burns Campaign headquarters. . . .It is important to note that we were joined by people from New Jersey, Illinois, Montana, Indiana, and Massachusetts . . .

Read the whole thing. I’ll be leaving for PA-12 early Tuesday morning and will have complete Election Day news.

UPDATE: Gateway Pundit reports on a radio ad reminding Pennsylvanians of what Obama thinks about them.

Blame Glenn Beck

A liberal warns us that extremist right-wing racists are taking over . . . Israel!

[T]he Netanyahu coalition is the product of frightening, long-term trends in Israeli society: an ultra-Orthodox population that is increasing dramatically, a settler movement that is growing more radical and more entrenched in the Israeli bureaucracy and army, and a Russian immigrant community that is particularly prone to anti-Arab racism. In 2009, a poll by the Israel Democracy Institute found that 53 percent of Jewish Israelis (and 77 percent of recent immigrants from the former USSR) support encouraging Arabs to leave the country. Attitudes are worst among Israel’s young. When Israeli high schools held mock elections last year, Lieberman won. This March, a poll found that 56 percent of Jewish Israeli high school students — and more than 80 percent of religious Jewish high school students — would deny Israeli Arabs the right to be elected to the Knesset. An education ministry official called the survey “a huge warning signal in light of the strengthening trends of extremist views among the youth.”

Obviously, the rising tide of hate is due to the nefarious influence of Michelle Bachmann, Fox News, Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh and all those right-wing Tea Party extremists who are fomenting hatred in Kentucky Tel Aviv.

Exit question: Is it possible that the “anti-Arab racism” among young Israelis might have something to do with, y’know, Arabs blowing up young Israelis? Or is it “racist” even to ask that kind of question?

Q: ‘How Many Right-Wing Extremists Currently Reside at This Address?’

Really, these Census questions have become so intrusive . . .

The lady from the Census Bureau stopped by yesterday, thanks to my personal effort to stimulate employment: Don’t fill out the mail-in form, so they have to send an enumerator to the house.

Your tax dollars at work — temporarily, at least.

Despite the concerns of Andrew Sullivan and Rick Ungar about Michelle Bachmann and Glenn Beck inspiring anti-Census violence, the enumerator was held hostage only long enough to pose for a picture.

Despite Re-Tweet by Alyssa Milano, Mickey Kaus Still Senate ‘Long Shot’

Ever since Alyssa re-Tweeted him Oct. 28, Mickey Kaus has been the envy of bloggers everywhere (or at least, bloggers around here). However, that kind of New Media energy — dude, she’s got more than 830,000 followers — has not yet developed into an electoral tsunami:

In a year when Tea Party activists and the GOP are getting a lot of attention, self-described “common sense Democrat” Mickey Kaus is stirring up a little party of his own – challenging U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer in the Democratic primary over illegal immigration and public employee unions’ pensions.
“It’s clear that the unions own the Democratic party – and it’s going to be a disaster unless that changes,” says Kaus, 58 . . .
“Do the vast majority of Californians want to do away with the secret ballot in union elections? No,” he said. “And the huge number of voters here don’t want immediate amnesty for undocumented immigrants – until the border is secure.”
Kaus’ campaign against Boxer, who has been called one of the Senate’s most liberal members, is a longshot in blue California. But his bid underscores challenges for California’s junior senator. . . .

If the Alyssa Milano re-Tweet wasn’t enough to catapult Kaus into front-runner status, perhaps he should ask Ladd Ehlinger Jr. to do him one of those super-cool campaign ads.
