‘Somebody Has to Stand Up’

So says Mark Levin:

[H]e offered $100,000 to Chris Matthews to find any example where Sarah Palin or Levin himself had “promoted the murder of anybody.”
The direct challenge to Matthews took place shortly after Levin had played clips of Matthews suggesting Levin’s passionate radio shows were “angry” and apparently implying that Levin’s shows and those of talker Michael Savage had some responsibility for the Tucson murders. The allegation came on the heels of a specific allegation by left-wing Pima County Sheriff insisting Rush Limbaugh was at fault, while MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann demanded Palin “repudiate her own part in amplifying violence and violent imagery in politics.”
Said Levin, who is also a considerable lawyer in his role as head of the landmark Legal Foundation:
“I challenge Chris Matthews, I’ll put $100,000 on the table, to find any example where Sarah Palin has promoted the murder of anybody,” said Levin — specifically excluding terrorists and the Taliban.
Levin went on: “A hundred thousand on the table if Chris Matthews can find anywhere Mark Levin has urged the murder of people who have different political viewpoints. That’s the murder of politicians …where I said go out there and kill X,Y,Z…go out there and kill A,B,C. I challenge him right now. Sarah Palin. Me. Go ahead.”

Matthews is a gutless faggot Canadian. Meanwhile, the “Lean Forward” network has now made a graphic out of its counterfactual guilt-by-association, prompting Radley Balko to say:

It’s a powerful image. . . . It’s also complete bullsh*t.

And when are people going to start talking about the influence of Zeitgeist on Tucson shooter Jared Loughner?

‘Vain in Their Imaginations’
God-Haters and the Tucson Massacre

Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools . . .
— Romans 1:21-22 (KJV)

Vox Day quoted from that famous passage in describing the auto-beclownment of University of Minnesota biology professor Paul Z. Myers — a self-proclaimed “godless liberal” — who like a lot of other godless liberals was utterly wrong about the Tucson shooting:

“The scumbag who committed this crime has been caught; I’ll bet he’ll turn out to be a Teabagger who listens to a lot of AM talk radio.”

Professor Myers went on to call Sarah Palin “a vile creature” and accused her of ” inciting the deranged a–holes who follow her.” When called out for his malicious libel, Professor Myers doubled down:

This is NOT the time to back down and suddenly find it embarrassing to point out that right-wing pundits make a living as professional goads to insanity. . . .
Do not sit there cowering, trying to make excuses for teabaggers and violent morons. This is supposed to be the part where you stand up, look at the shouters on the other side, and tell them, “This is wrong, and this is the harm you bring to our country.”

In other words, no matter what vicious lies the “godless liberal” perpetrates, his comrades must defend his infamous falsehoods because . . . well, the Ends Justify The Means, and the road to a secular Utopia will necessarily be paved with the bones of the Enemies of Social Justice. This brutal logic, the demand that everyone must toe the line, that any tactic — even outright falsehood — is defensible so long as it advances the radical cause, is inherent to totalitarianism, which must silence dissent By Any Means Necessary.

That an arrogant fool like Professor Paul Z. Myers is a government employee, paid to instruct the impressionable minds of Minnesota’s young people, ought to give pause to citizens of that state. Continue reading ‘Vain in Their Imaginations’

When in Doubt, Blame Palin!

#BlamePalin became a sarcastic Twitter hashtag yesterday. Among other things, I blamed her for Auburn’s game-winning field goal against Oregon. Also, my four-day streak without an Instalanche.

Liberals have made Palin their all-purpose scapegoat, the demon-figure whose existence relieves them of the burden for coming up with rational explanations of why bad things happen. The evasion of responsibility being a key policy goal of liberalism, you can understand why she’s become so valuable to them.

Blaming Palin is, in this regard, a lot like blaming racism — excuse me, I meant, “raaaaacism!” — for every ill afflicting American society. This never-ending finger-pointing search for scapegoats is the topic of my latest American Spectator column:

The deranged man had been steadily going downhill. His bizarre anti-social behavior and angry outbursts had caused him to be suspended from college classes. He spiraled downward into a vortex of madness and nursed a weird political grievance until finally he went on a murderous rampage with a 9-mm semi-automatic pistol, killing six people and wounding more than a dozen others.
But nobody blamed Sarah Palin or the Tea Party for this bloody crime, because it was December 1993, and the deranged gunman was Colin Ferguson. And his killing spree didn’t happen in Arizona, but on New York’s Long Island Railroad, where he opened fire in a train full of rush-hour commuters.
The remarkable parallels between Ferguson’s mass murder and Saturday’s shootings in Tucson include not only the choice of weapons and the number of victims killed, but also the fact that in both cases, liberals downplayed the idiosyncratic motives of the gunmen and immediately seized upon both crimes to advance their political agenda. . . .

You should read the whole thing. But if you don’t, I’ll just blame Sarah Palin. Everything is her fault now.

When Did Sarah Palin Say ‘Put Him Against the Wall and Shoot Him’?

Oh, wait. Excuse me. It wasn’t Sarah Palin who said that:

On October 23, The Scranton Times reported that Rep. Paul Kanjorski, D-Pa., said this about Florida’s new Republican Governor Rick Scott:
“That Scott down there that’s running for governor of Florida,” Mr. Kanjorski said. “Instead of running for governor of Florida, they ought to have him and shoot him. Put him against the wall and shoot him. He stole billions of dollars from the United States government and he’s running for governor of Florida. He’s a millionaire and a billionaire. He’s no hero. He’s a damn crook. It’s just we don’t prosecute big crooks.”

“I don’t remember a media firestorm erupting after Kanjorski engaged in this vitriolic rhetoric,” says Nice Deb.

Mission Accomplished, Markos Moulitsas

You can’t un-Tweet it, you see. Before the suspect had been identified, before his motive was known, you blamed Sarah Palin for an atrocious crime of which she was utterly innocent. The facts of your cruel defamation are chronicled precisely by Professor Willliam Jacobson:

As far as I can tell, Matthew Yglesias of Think Progress was the first person to spread the so-called Palin target map at 1:45 p.m.  The now infamous Markos Moulistas “mission accomplished, Sarah Palin” tweet did not take place until 2:19 p.m.  Yglesias’ tweet was retweeted a total of 271 times and the image of the map he posted 883 times as of this writing. . . .
The massacre had been hijacked for political purposes not based on facts, but on a desire for retribution against Palin specifically, and the Tea Parties and conservatives in general.  A point I have made time and again, is that there was and is no evidence that the shooter ever saw the Palin map.
The Palin connection was a complete fabrication created in the minds of Messrs. Yglesias, Moulitsas, and countless others with an axe to grind.

“Now infamous,” what a lovely phrase! The stain of your disgrace could not be darker, Markos, for what can be more heinous than to bear false witness — yea, even blood libel! — against the innocent? Continue reading Mission Accomplished, Markos Moulitsas →

You Stay Classy, Kathy Griffin!

Hollie McKay reports at Fox News:

Kathy Griffin announced her New Year’s resolution to continue a verbal assault on the Palin family. Only in 2011, the comedian said she intends to target Sarah Palin’s 16-year-old daughter, Willow.
“I’ve already gone for Sarah, Todd and Bristol obviously,” Griffin told The Hollywood Reporter. “But I think it’s Willow’s year to go down. In 2011, I want to offend a new Palin.”

Nothing is sacred and no one is safe, as I wrote a month ago:

Griffin and [comedian Margaret] Cho, like the members of the liberal media who applaud and encourage them, are engaged in a political search-and-destroy mission that began the moment Sarah Palin was announced as the 2008 GOP vice-presidential candidate. The threat she posed to Obama was clear from the outset, and was quickly proven by a phenomenal poll surge for the Republican ticket, and they embarked on an unrelenting anti-Palin campaign that continues to this day.
There are no rules to this warfare, no boundary of decency the liberals will not transgress in pursuit of their intended prey. Everything is fair game to them, so long as they think it can hurt Palin.

She’s More Catholic Than the Pope

Lisa Graas wants to update the “about” page on her blog, and is looking for commendations from other bloggers, so there’s mine.

Lisa always kids me about the fact that among the top referrers to her blog, it’s a bunch of hardcore Catholics and me. Being a pro-life Protestant (and father of six) probably explains that. Anyway . . .

Lisa is not afraid to stand up for her beliefs, whatever the cost. She was leading the PalinTwibe — the Twitter posse for Sarah Palin — and advocating for Bill Johnson in the Kentucky GOP Senate primary. With Rand Paul also in the primary, her advocacy made Graas an especial target of the Paulistas, and if you’ve ever seen those guys go to work on somebody . . . well, they never heard of a “fair fight.” It got rough.

But then it got rougher: When Sarah Palin endorsed Rand Paul, Lisa had to make a choice and she decided to resign from the PalinTwibe rather than to back down from her opposition to Paul.

However much you may disagree with Lisa’s stance (and personally, I’m OK with the Paulistas, even if their online fanatics are cruel and obnoxious), you have to admire Lisa’s commitment to principle. In a political environment where “go-along-to-get-along” is the prevailing ethos, Lisa Graas stands firmly for her principles.

You don’t have to agree with her. But you’ve got to respect her.

PREVIOUSLY: “Lisa Graas Takes on the Paulistas”

UPDATE: Also, she gives good FMRJA. Speaking of which, we’re way overdue for a few inspirational words from Gunnery Sergeant Hartman:

Welcome to the Parris Island of the blogosphere.

Rich Lowry: Palin-Hater

Aaron Goldstein at The American Spectator:

Yesterday, Jim Antle drew our attention to Rich Lowry’s chart on how prospective 2012 Republican presidential candidates would vote on the Obama-McConnell tax deal in its present form.
As I noted yesterday, Lowry’s chart was incomplete because he had left Sarah Palin blank. Palin, in fact, voiced her opposition to the deal back on December 8th.
Yet as of 1:53 p.m. EST today, Lowry still has Palin blank on his chart.
Memo to Rich Lowry: Sarah Palin votes ‘No.’

Yeah, you know what I just noticed about the NRO list of “prospective” 2012 candidates? He doesn’t even list Herman Cain.

Rich Lowry hates women and minorities. Pass it on.

UPDATE: Lowry has now acknowledged Palin’s “no,” but still doesn’t include Herman Cain as a contender. Thanks to the commenter who pointed that out, and also to the commenter who pointed out Erick Erickson’s very interesting mention of Herman Cain as a grassroots favorite. Let me point out a couple of facts:

  • Newt Gingrich is not going to be the 2012 GOP nominee, and his semi-campaign is just a fundraising/publicity stunt. He tried the same thing in 2008, BTW.
  • Anybody climbing aboard the Tim Pawlenty 2012 Victory Bandwagon is on their way to a massive disappointment. Pawlenty’s a decent guy and a conservative, but there is no way he’s going to win the South Carolina primary. Depending on who is actually in the field, Pawlenty will get a share of the “Please, Dear Lord, Not Mitt Romney” vote in the Iowa caucuses. That’s it. The dude has a charisma deficit.

So scratch those guys off the list, and there are some other minor candidates you can scratch, but it’s important to scratch Gingrich and Pawlenty up front, because there are Serious People pretending that those guys are actually in contention for 2012, which they aren’t.
